I would actually prefer a bigger roster and more stages over a story mode.

I've put in almost 1500 hours into Overwatch and that game has absolutely no story mode. The lore is sprinkled in here and there through cinematic trailers and character voice lines. But even though the game has no story, I have like 205 hours on the character Genji. I have 130 hours on the character Junkrat. I have 120 hours on the character Widowmaker. And so on.

So 10 more characters by default could potentially offer me so many more hours of playtime and enjoyment than the story mode ever could.

I enjoy it and they do it well, so I think it's ok as is. Now if this was street fighter... Lol. That said, it's irrelevant because story mode sells to players who don't compete/take the game seriously.

But why is that the opinion? Why is that the norm? Competitively viable players don't like stories? They have no interest in Johnny Cage being a goofball with his younger cockier self? No one wants to see Kotal get his ass handed to him by Shao Kahn? No one is curious why Frost is a Cyborg?

More characters and stages! While I enjoy story mode, let's face it: MKX was a letdown. I think Vogel is not up to the task, bring back John Tobias asap.

And since we had "compilations" games at the end of each era like MK Trilogy and MK Armageddon, I'm expecting to see something like this about MK9-MKX-MK11 in the near future.

I love the MK lore, but I think their current story mode with the chapter system is the wrong way to go about it. If they removed story mode to add more (fully-fledged and balanced) characters/stages, but also gave us some sort of Konquest mode like Deception or Armageddon, then I'd be all for that.

I think you misunderstood me. I do care. I'm just not going to assume that everyone does.

The rosters we get for these games are excellent so I do not feel like we are losing anything with the current format. I really enjoy actually having a real campaign. I'm not necessarily going to play through it a million times, but it's an enjoyable mode for exploring characters more in depth. Main reason why some characters are awesome is because of story mode depictions and intro dialogues. I'm sure that's the case with many people and characters they took a liking to overall.

Story mode is great and the roster is great and when you go online you're gonna 9 times out of 10 come across about 6-7 overused characters while others are left to rot. 25 plus DLC is sufficient.

21 stages is also plenty. Quality over quantity anyway.

Ppffffttt Mortal Kombat without the story would not be MK. Not to mention NRS are literally known as having the best story modes in fighting games. Literally fckn movie quality.

Ya'll really wanna get rid of that for some stages? Make MK just like every other fighting game out? Oof, I just can't relate.

Option 1 for a unique, immersive and high quality fighting game experience AND clear skin. Wow. My mind.

MK is rich with Lore and Character building

Its a big thing (aside from Fatalites) that make it more different and unique to other fighting games, as instead of the usual arcade fights for each character, NRS Story mode builds the world around quite nicely.

MKX is a good example in someways. While the story building was meh, and same with how some fights went, It built more on the characters, and we got to see their view on the situation, and how they advanced the plot

Story mode is quite ingrained into MK now, which gives more reason for consumers to pick it up.

Also, this is the kind of shit that keeps letting Capcom get away with half cooked fighting games. STORY MODE ISN'T OPTIONAL ANYMORE.

Don't lower the single player bar in the name of "gameplay" so they can moonwalk over that bitch again with SFxT or MvCI.

Tbh having a storymode gives a great sense of belonging to the characters. Even though i've created a post slightly ranting on having 25 characters total in the base roster. Now that i think of it, 25 is more than enough. heck it's not really official whether we will only end up with 25. But overall i'm going to say great job NetheRealm I have no complaints towards this game. A great improvement compared to Mkx and hopefully this game sells more than 11 million copies..

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
Tempting but probably not because the story is a big part of what draws MK fans plus I'd rather see characters especially newer ones developed so we can gauge whether or not we the fans want them back again or not. That and I feel they can just add more characters anyway IF they really wanted. Even Capcom tipped their caps to NRS saying they have the best story modes in the genre.

For myself, yes I would sac the story mode for more characters and stages. I don't personally enjoy the stories of fighting games and while I do think MK has the best lore for a fighter I still didn't enjoy how the storytelling went for the last couple games.

Am I hoping MK11's story changes my mind? Yes, absolutely, but if I could have more gameplay aspects like characters/stages/kustom moves/whatever over the story mode then I would choose that in a heartbeat.
