What's new

So what do you guys like the most about him from what we’ve seen?

Pterodactyl

Plus on block.
For me I like the idea of how his Krushing Blows are set up. They seem to be almost all off of counter hits and the opponent guessing wrong, he seems to be a real powerhouse in the punishing department.

Of the variations that we’ve seen, I find Flag day to be the most interesting, aesthetically and in terms of potential.

The core of this one is that his new universal special move, the war banner, gets more utility. He can now combo into it’s activation, using it to smack the opponent, and use it as an interactable by picking it back up and stabbing the opponent. The flag’s main function is that it innately increases his power for its duration.

I look forward to set-ups into the flag, and then playing the mind-game of baiting your opponent into a whiff or bad tech and really destroying them with a damage buffed Krushing Blow.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
aesthetically, he looks much more savage, crazy brutal and fearsome than any previous MK incarnate, so yeah, finally Baraka is a character you can now give respect .... gameplay wise, he seems very interesting .... his flag attack is a cool token bonus, his krush blows looks all good and he has some sort of "lap jump throw" attack that seems fine !

The old ones he would just shoot a random fireball out of his arms. In MK11 he gets it out by scratching his blades against one another creating a spark/fireball. It makes more sense and looks great IMO
The old one was supposed to signify that, just not enough frames to actually make it look the part. The pose is great though, they should have kept it as a last frame, I'll agree.

As for what I like about him. I always thought Baraka was hype, even when I first saw him in the arcade. I'm glad he's back at all, in any capacity. With the direction NRS has been taking lately, I have no doubt that he'll be more viable than he's ever been, and those who know me, know that having fairly level playing fields is my #1 gripe in fighting games.

It's the motion in MK11 I don't think makes sense, as mentioned above. If he did the blade scratching, but towards the opponent, as if he's trying to throw the spark from the blades forward, then it would make sense to me.

I just thought that Baraka's reveal is directly interested in the new gore tech. mechanic. For the new gore tech we have the most brutal character in the franchise.. Also Skarlet's reveal is directly interested in the new blood animations.. these two are the perfect candidates to discover the new systems in MK11.. Both looks amazingly cool..

I like the fact that now he is a bulky fella, really think this orc-ish approach to the tarkatan fits him better. Also, his overhead leap looks amazing.

Gameplay wise his kit looked promising. It didn't seem like he was really struggling at any range. Good normals, good staggers, good jump-ins, and solid damage. I know most of the stuff we saw in the reveal is gonna get changed but if his basic kit stays anything like this I'm pretty sure he'll end up being a solid character.

The Ultimate

aka CommandThrower
In terms of gameplay, I'm not sure what I like the most about him. I like that anti-air bone spike move, and I also like the fact that Baraka has a lunging command throw. How to properly use these is something that remains to be seen. But, based on his Flag variation and how his crushing blows work, he seems to be a bait and punish style character.

I'm just glad he's back.

For some reason I always viewed Baraka as the Dan (Street Fighter) of Mortal Kombat. So it was refreshing to see, that he got some respect during the reveal with Scorpion himself praising the Tarkatans.

Because you never see the arcade days.

I've said a lot of this in another thread already, but I could not be happier with this version of Baraka right now. And he's been one of my favourites, if not my #1 favourite since I was a babby.

- Dude CAME OUT OF NOWHERE in the trailer. Never expected him to make it and I freaked out like a tiny child
- Updated version of his best design (MK2)
- Mans is fucking YOKED this time
- Ridiculously brutal Fatality, the one everyone's talking about right now
- From what little I played at the event he was super fun, much more than MK9. I almost didn't want to try anyone else. And maybe/hopefully not trash tier this time, seemed pretty solid?
- Characters actually don't treat him like a joke in intros (...except Geras...), Raiden and Sonya seem to respeck him and want him on their side
- Bone claws >>>>
- Breaks off his own blade and leaves it in you during his Fatal Blow... bruh
- You can meter burn chop chop twice and it's beautiful
I forgot to mention that horn that plays in the distance when he whips the flag out, it sounds awesome
It plays during his second win pose too, it's cool as fuck. (Like 10 seconds into this)

The flag + big ass fucking war horns + the fact that he's like this Shadow of Mordor Orc captain now is doing a lot for me. Gives him a bit more character and he can do a little more than the usual blade stuff.

Unfortunately it's probably inevitable he returns to his jobbing ways in story mode, but for now, I'm over the moon with what they've done with him.

Shark Tank

I don't actually play these games
I think most of Baraka's CBs are from punishes, at least his head smash was and I think gutted as well. Most of Scorps were from counter hits.

he's going to be able to whiff punish everything from near half screen with that knee. and his damage should be above average due to his limited move set. only thing I dont like is him using the flag during the super, looks out of place.
