What's new

What small details will you pay extra attention to?

Come the community reveal.

For me personally, it's the sound design. I felt that most of the guns and bombs/missiles stood out as below par in MKX, as well as the music which was mostly fine but pretty forgettable.

The perfect example is Erron Blacks guns, and Triborg - ugh! what's with those wet splat sounds for Sektors missiles? Like he's shooting pies.

How about you? "Trivial" details you look forward to at the community reveal?

IS THE MUSIC FINALLY GOOD!?

I honestly want to know what happened to NRS' music team. The old MK games, while not having an amazing soundtrack, at least had some memorable beats. Pretty much everything in INJ1, MKX, and INJ2 was forgettable, and most of MK9 too with the exception of -- guess what? -- the klassic tracks!

Pretty much every other fighting games beats NRS' games at this department, SoulCalibur VI, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, all of Arc System Works' games, etc. It's a shame, really.

Yeah Street Fighter V's music is sometimes phenomenal. They also made rap work in a fighting game with Ed's soundtrack, which is a great song (this coming from a surly and frostbitten norwegian metalhead who historically hasn't been a fan of any hip hop)

I'm very aesthetic minded, so I can't help but take notice of things like animations, costume design, character models, stuff like that.

Some of the things about MK9 I was severely bothered by (other than the overall character models looking odd proportioned) were that Kitana's costume just didn't fit her character at all, and that her hair was a complete mess and had some kind of elastic property to it when she jumped which just looked awful, imo.

In MKX the character models looked better, but the female characters had rather long necks, and Sub-Zero's main vest looked like one of those ugly winter jackets or a life jacket... not a good look, imo.

And of course there's the whole discourse of NRS having lightened some characters' skintones instead of keeping them dark skinned, which becomes borderline offensive sometimes. I just wish they were more consistent with these things, instead of having a character all of a sudden having changed ethnicity.

Lastly I hope the animation team will do better overall. I know a lot of you don't like the A.B.I.-torial videos on the subject, but I think they pin-point a good amount of the animations which could indeed have been done a lot better, and I just hope NRS will make an extra bit of effort to make sure it will indeed be better.

BOOM! Music is probably the only aspect NRS has been hella lacking in their games. We need good tracks to get us hyped!

Mortal
The way the announcer sounds and the font of stuff like fatality and fight! I felt mkx was very plain looking with its white text, meter, and health bars. The announcer was less interesting too.

Apprentice
(*in order of priority)
-
taunts for Kahn (gotta have 'em)
- more arenas [than MKX / IJ2] and more 'klassic' ones, over un-MK-y urban settings
- automatic matchmaking during practice mode (see: SFIV, SCVI)
- for offline versus play, automatic random stage selection between bouts (see: Dead of Alive 5: LR)
- better, more visceral and memorable BGM (see: Killer Instinct)
- time-of-day transitions and dynamic weather for arenas
- more versatile HUD personalisation options (e.g., smaller meters; removal of timer; removal of char. portraits)

Metin

Ermac & Smoke Main
Alternate skins for every character ( 8 skins for Scorpion but no alternate for Tremor or Goro? that was a nightmare )
Kombat Code Screen before versus battle ( It always been fun )
In game secrets ( Unlockable characters, stages, secret brutalities etc)

I am 34 years old now and i really miss these arcade feelings nowadays.

"Online is your forte!" - A Wise Man, 2015.
Animations and music.

And I strongly believe that NRS will fail miserably at both once again, unfortunately.

All hail emperor Liucifer Kang!
The animations gonna be better once they hire real martial artist again instead of having wannabes. Carlos Pesina is okay, he is obviously doing his best, but the others...geez.
Hair flowing should be way better now since they moved to UE4. I hope we get colored health bars again, so it doesnt blend with some of the stages ( im looking at you Destroyed City) and ofc ; Music.
It seems Dan Forden completely lost his touch, none of his new stuff is memorable. The cord progression on his guitars are abysmal. Its like he doesnt even care anymore. They have acces to a symphonic orchestra and one would think that would be a phenomenal idea. Just look at the God Of War ost, it could certainly create the atmosphere needed for a gritty game as MK, but the execution is rather bland and falls flat. I would rather if we just get a Jukebox setting, like Tekken 7, so we can use the old great tunes from older games.
