Dragon Ball FighterZ Discussion Thread (Game)

Reading through the patch notes now- everything looks great so far. Excited to try out those Krillin changes especially.

And Yamchad assist still intact

Kinda confused though- where are the Cell buffs?

Kid Buu still has his 50/50 mixup anywhere on the screen BUT ONLY with straight beam assists backing him up (H>Beam assist into Buu ball > IAD > oh/empty low)

The 2S mixup that worked with most assists is complete garbage now / easily reactable since they increased landing frames after 2S

They also made 2/3M so slow that L,L,2M is not even a true blockstring anymore. Lol wtf. Also when you start combo with 2M it scales like a b*tch.

Corner mixup with the crossup is also gone.

I think they overdid him compared to what they did to Cell / Bardock.

ON THE OTHER HAND - I love New VEGETA SAN!

Idk, gonna lab today but he's NOWHERE as good as he was mixup-wise. Hell I would rather had the dmg nerf and corner crossup removed BUT NOT the 2S mixup..
well, his 2s actually angles down now when your close up correct? and the thing is your supposed to be able to do an air dash after it or something right? just cover it with an assist if you need to. the buu ball mix up should still work with something like yamacha assist shouldnt it?

Buu ball into 50/50s might work with Yamcha but I really know is that with beam assists into buu ball > 50/50 you get a true blockstring.

As for your 2S comment - yes you can still airdash after initial blast for OH (covered by assists) but if you choose to go for empty low (fake overhead) - its not a thing anymore. It doesnt jail and is EAAAAZYY to react / deflect. Before the patch it was a true 50/50 blockstring

hmm, maybe you'll have to settle for doing air dash into air 5L into 2L or doing two Air 5L's as the mix up instead.

also if the empty low is easy to react to/reflect, then i guess start baiting it and Dragon Rush them if people start doing that, if anything it sounds like kid buu's game plan may have more mind games now if anything.

Dude, you CANT do 5L into 2L confirm anymore either. If you hit them with 5L, 2L wont connect cuz you STILL have to recover after 5L. Its gone.

weird, i wonder why they did that, well we'll have to see how the character does now.

can you combo if it hits?

i mean it almost sounds like doing 2s might be not even worth it anymore, might have to settle for more conventional means for mixing, tho the buu ball should still work with the proper assists.

FROM REDDIT (not my post)

Patch explained for dummies

So, if you are not too interested in the massive amount of details and follow everything this is the general line of the patch in my understanding:

  • assists that were way too quick for re-combos are now a bit better overall. So the whole cast is more viable as team composition goes

  • unfair characters now have normals slowed down (6f to 7f), damage reduced or both

  • low tier characters have now faster normals or more options as high-low stuff goes

  • all moves that could get you in a combo from an obscene distance now scale harder (buu stomps ecc.)

  • all hit boxes now reflect a bit better the appearance of the move, also some screwed up hit boxes that were hitting in a strange way are now fixed

  • all moves that would make you airborne and lead to almost unreactable 50/50 have been slowed down on landing. Essentially you have more time to react to stuff like kid buu jS to low or Bardock M rebellion spear to low

  • all command grabs now work more or less the same with more or less the same start-up making characters that have them viable

  • almost all the move that “look” like an anti-air move have been given anti-air properties (ex. 16 ground grab, buu stretchy hand)

  • training mode is now a real training mode with good options

  • you can’t dodge higher color squares in ranked
That’s the bulk of the patch. Of course there are still character specific things that you can look more into.

Cell got hella normalized and his damage scales more now. Basically the things we all wanted.

Fuck this game. I wanna come back to play it but fuck it the servers are unforgivably bad.
STILL!?!?! FUCK! I thought they would have fixed that by now :(

Base Vegeta corner loops are mad fun to do, but took me awhile to understand the timing. I love training in this game, especially with the new training mode buffs. Definitely gonna be playing this again. But with online being shit, probably will just play it casually unfortunately.

I'm a little upset about the Kid Buu nerfs too. I mean, he needed nerfs for sure, but I agree that it feels like they went a bit too far. 1k damage nerf when starting from 2M is enormous. At least they didn't change the scaling on 1M, so his up close 50/50 off IAD remains the same, but still. He's still good imo, but Cell and Bardock got slaps on the wrist in comparison.

I haven't labbed him yet, but Base Vegeta looks like the new Bardock from everything I'm seeing online.

Honestly, mine barely ever disconnects, uk/eu tho...

Some connections are obviously better than others and I still would rather roll-back, but it’s a lot better here than it was near launch.

On PC the game plays very well. I have been playing a bunch this past month and have yet to be kicked from the server. The netcode is still not great but have been playing with people in casual match and it has been very acceptable.

I live in Israel and I play on the PS4, and previously on PS3, and I have very good connections, I've played 3 of the 4 NRS games online for long portions and sessions (MK9, MKX and IJ2, didn't had much time online in IJ1), and yes that includes both the pre-2016 and post-2016 versions of NRS' netcode. And I've never had any disconnections in any of those games as a result of NRS' netcode, unlike with DBFZ in which I had several of them already. Now I don't recall any disconnections the last time I've played, and it indeed got better, but if it can still happen at any time, then it's just absurd.

What's DBZF like compared to MKX when it comes to button inputs? MKX was basically my first fighter other than the original MKs but back then I was just a lad pressing buttons hoping a combo came out. How difficult are the inputs? Are they similar to MKX as far as like db1, df2, stuff like that? Would I be able to play it on the default ps4 controller? It just seems so fast paced I'm terrified to pick it up.. any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm a huge Dragon Ball fan so this has been my dream come true but watching it at EVO I was like omg this is so fast lol, thanks guys.

Honestly, it's probably one of the easier games to get into if you wanna jump into the anime community. The most complicated input is a QCF (which you can practice in I2/MKX by switching to alternate controls) and the combo paths are easy. The basic stuff (if you don't want to start with autocombos) is usually Square, Square, Square, Down Triangle, Triangle, Circle, R2, repeat in the air (Light, light light, down medium, medium, heavy, super dash, repeat) and that's near universal for everyone. The most difficult thing starting out is developing team synergy, but you can always just ask for advice on that

Compared to MKX the inputs are no problem every df,db inputs. Like if you do just a dlm string and input the universal OH you will never get a df special. I think it would be hard to get into unless you are used to a anime or marvel, shit is pretty crazy if you don't know whats going on but it gets easier the more you play.
