Dragon Ball FighterZ Discussion Thread (Game)

It's all so very confusing.
I actually have to agree that I've lost block inputs online, often enough that I think there is something wonky going on occasionally. It's not every game or all the time and I absolutely fuck up occasionally and roll to up or something - or with me my hand will do it's stupid spasm shit and I'll let off the button for a moment.. but genuinely, I have been sitting there, crouched and blocking some pressure, holding down back firmly.. and then poof, I'm being hit.

It's often enough to notice and beoccasionally frustrating, but it's not often enough to make a difference in the outcome of a set. If I'm better and deserve to win, I still do. If I'm inferior and deserve to lose, obviously I still do.

Weirdly enough it feels like its most common in the early portions of a match. Once the match is a little advanced I never really notice it at all. I wonder if it's some networking oddity? Who knows. It also seems more common vs certain people. My main training partner has notoriously shitty internet and it happens vs him more than anyone else I play. Of course I play him far more often than anyone else, so there is that lol.

Shrug.

Anyway. Anyone else noticed that Black isnt as popular at the top levels of competition anymore? He's damn sure not rare or anything, just seeing him less than originally when he was like Vegeta, and in every. Single. Match.

I'm guessing it's for two main reasons. One, his 2L isn't a low. This is the only thing approaching a 'weakness' that he has. Two, better players are getting better at SDing. As the game evolves and the competitive meta alters, SDing is becoming a huge liability in many situations, and Black's 2H was a HUGE factor when dealing with the constant (even at high lvls of play) use of SD. Originally it was just better at nailing it and punishing than a lot of other 2Hs, but as players just get better with timing and reaction, the need for an 'easy' answer to SD is less required - cause players are much more familiar with it all now, and can 2H successfully with almost anyone. So, Black's 2H is still super relevant to me, but better players just don't need it any more.

Just an observation and my theory(ies) as to the reasons behind it.

Me personally, I will rock Black for a while. Unless a patch comes along and neuters him* or something, he's one of my favs hands down, and he's easy to use, which is worth it's weight in gold to me.

*I am speaking purely hypothetically. We NEVER know what changes a developer will make. The first balance patch we see could heavily nerf Capt. Ginyu and heavily buff Kid and Adult Gohan for all we know. I am not condoning or saying I expect, any changes to Black (or.anyone). Simply that you never-ever know what a patch will bring.

Soooo thinking of just revamping my WHOLE team.....AGAIN

But i really like Frieza. He has some nasty shit that can solo a whole team by himself....but FUCK thats such high execution, i dont even know if I can pull it off....

People are starting to say you can't open people up with Goku Black and I HIGHLY disagree with that. So far, he's one of my favorite characters in the game that can balance out ANY team.

Gotenks....hes just fun as fuck to play! Still haven't come across ANY team with the same combination as me and I kinda wanna stick it out solely for that simple fact. *sigh* Its a struggle, but Uncle JBeezY will continue to work with what I got....for now :)

If they are still fun, grind your team. If you
1) stop having fun
2) reach an actual competitive roadblock that you feel limits you in some way or clashes with your style

Reevaluate

Haven’t really played as much recently, IRL stuff. But jumped on today for a few games and got my best RQ in a while. Pink dude left after one game and simply messaged me with “arcade stick c**t”

Just... wut? Don’t even use one... pad baby.
Is that You moved so smoothly that He probably thought that You had an arcade stick. LMAO.
Edit: Video please.

Yeah, the whole "black can't open people up" thing is silly, unless you're playing at an extremely high level - and even then I disagree, but his assist mix is def weaker than others, lacking a low L of any kind - so the comment does have some validity in that respect.

The highest competitive meta right now is blockstring - assist - mix - repeat if they blocked you the first time, and in that environment, lack of a fast low is a weakness. You just can't threaten the same way as a character that can run a late OH into an unreactably fast low - giving you the ability to fake the OH and just drop the low. It's a true guess. Black can't do that.

But this is a case of people getting hung up on what a character can't do, rather than what they can. If I played at the go1/Sonic level, then yeah, I can see him being weaker than some other choices..I actually wouldnt play him at all if I was trying to win an offline tournament.

But.

Black is mutant strong and for the 99.8% of the rest of the DBFz world, he's just as powerful and dangerous as any of the top tiers and has mix equalling there's - especially online where his teleports straddle an unreactable line.

He's also a damn good way to learn a solid fundamental game while sitting on a powerhouse of a character that's ultra forgiving and can be played in any position.

Anyone who says they can't open anyone up with a character that has three different teleport cancels including one that crosses up, a command grab, one of the best j.H hitboxe,s and some of the best buttons in the game, deserves to have the rest of their statements laughed out the door.
