Dragon Ball FighterZ Discussion Thread (Game)

It's all so very confusing.
I have more "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS BAD ASS DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT????" moments while playing this game for a session than I do playing most other fighters for a month.

One of the few fighting games where Im hype to see my opponent do cool shit too. Sometimes I forget to tech combos cause I'm watching how bad-ass it all looks.

If they fix the online, not it the DCs but the way it all works, this game is going to be hands down one of the greatest fighters ever.

I always wonder if the people who say this played guilty gear. This game is sorta like that, but without about 20 layers. GG was undeniably deeper. It was also a MUCH better game imo. DBFZ looks awesome, but it's a gimped anime game honestly. GG had more movement options, more defensive options, basically just more.

Also yeah 16 is ridiculous good. Multiple tick throw setups into hkd which lead to pretty strong oki, strong pressure with the right assists, big damage, etc.

Guilty is the better game for sure. However, this game is awesome, and will be my secondary, less intense / high execution / full throttle type game.

was about to put my team together finally...then I happened upon Teen Gohan. holy shit this little squirt hits hard. A bit stubby ya (use assists in the neutch?) but plus on block or safe when getting in.
Currently running T.Gohan / Goku black / Adult Gohan. Might switch Goku for Vegeta, not sure yet. Beam assist and Vegeta assist are both really good in their own right .

I think it's due to the fact that it doesn't have all those layers that people like it, you don't feel overwhelmed with things like having to look out for a separate meter for each character. GG's cieling is way too high for people not familiar with anime games or not willing to go the extra mile to keep up with it. DBFZ is the middle ground where it's simple enough to pick up quickly and can actually keep up with the tech and the crazy stuff that can be done in the game later on as well.
Being a hybrid of arcsys stuff and Marvel which most of the fgc has dabbled with helps too, gives it a bit of familiarity.

I'm a fan of all Arcsys games except GG, I clicked with all of them except the original. i even played the Hokuto no Ken game for longer than GG lol.

Yeah that makes sense.

Maybe its just that being a millia player i was hoping my movement ability and execution would translate and matter in this game more than it does.

I dont think it would hurt anything to have instant blocking or FD either though. I guess reflect is kinda FD, but more push back and not something you can do while moving to OS block and reduce your forward momentum.

I'm rolling with Beerus / Kid Buu / x atm, can't pick my third.

I love the projectiles and space control Frieza has, but Piccolo's heavy mix up and massive damage potential are equally appealing. Both are pretty stylish too. Really difficult choice. I'm almost considering dropping Kid Buu but his assist unlocks so much swag and tech for Beerus.

Sad times, think I’m going to have to drop Piccolo from my first team. Full screen is a massive pain without a beam assist and it’ll help with midscreen pressure too. Vegeta and Nappa are definites, so it’s Piccolo :(

I’m thinking of using Goku Black, Cell or Goku ssj. I prefer to avoid ubiquitous characters, but Black is so much fun compared to Goku ssj.

I’ve been toying around with Frieza recently, he’s a lot more fun than I first gave him credit for. Was actually thinking of matching him with K. Buu and Beerus.... haven’t done any work yet, but they seem like a good match in principle.

There’s too many chars I want to use. It’s really hard to stay focussed on my mains, but it’ll be worth it. Desperate to use fat Buu. That “Buu really really hate you!” move is a contender for hypest destructive finish imo.

I think Frieza is the stronger option too. But Piccolo assist can work nicely with Beerus's cross ups once it's been out long enough for protection to fade, and with meter he's the kind of character that can sweep whole teams, and I like that he's not seen so much used properly atm... Eh I dunno. It's a difficult choice because I really love my zoning too and Frieza provides like no other in this game, he has ACTUAL good zoning and Gold Frieza is hype

And yeh Buus blast I love it

Yesterday i played dude who HANDS DOWN had the cheapest Frieza Ive ever played! His zoning was so top tier, i couldnt even kill anybody from his team. I forgot his name, but he was a pink square. I recorded the match so i can learn from that horrible loss. If ya like to see, i would love to share for some pointers :)

Freiza is so funny to use against SD spammers. Standing H straight up beats it. I've played so many goku blacks that have no idea what to do as soon as they can't SD at all.

His 2H is top notch as well. Only problem i have is that his jM can be annoying to get both hits to land in online lag.

His 5H (Standing) is frickin nuts! That shit has a crazy hitbox! I kinda wanna use him but my first team is locked. So maaaaaybe a secondary ?Question mark? He can be the most annoying, zone crazy, keep-away character throughout the whole roster. And ive experienced it FIRST hand, like HOLY SHIT i was locked da fuck down with no answers.

You gotta stay in his face. Hes kinda slow.

I like using 5H to get people to hold block because they dont know how to move without superdash. Then you can start throwing out discs to cover yourself to run in if you want, or just bait and blow up vanish.

True, but the way THIS player was doing it was he threw out the discs, then did the jump explosion ball move to cover bother angles. Using Goku Black as an assist to spam the Kamehameha was a nightmare!

One of my matches, still rendering so the quality might not be great yet. Beat this guy 2-1 in ranked and the matches were very close. Aside from the obvious EASY combo drops and accidentally using a lvl3 instead of a lvl1 super, any feedback is appreciated. I’m on the right (Player 2) with the white Gohan and SS Vegeta.

Use reflect
Reflect can only take you SO FAR! Especially if you're so far from your opponent. But i guess if i built up meter to vanish, that could work....ill post that video later once im home so u can really see.

I mean, your combos were on point for the most part. I didnt see anything else besides the fact that you didnt do Gohan's lvl 1 fast enough to kill Vegeta Blue. But seems like you got the basis down.

Few drops, but solid af overall.

I suck, so maybe i shouldnt talk. But i did notice some obvious raw tag scenarios that would get caught with 2H alot. Just cover tags with assists if yer able. Also there were times where you guys were both iad and running underneath each other in like a circle. Against people that jumo and airdash forward alot ypu can just stop and aa with 2H.

Thats all i got. Butagain.. hard to give advice to someone who would destroy me
