Hell, they still don't even have Injustice right lol.
Well, it's not like SP games have to be set completely "right" (I mean, they do fall under "not a FG" category, so let's use that as an example). There, the most ridiculous crap still flies because everyone plays however they want anyway, and people who are in for universe, aesthetics and such are at home there.

My personal favorite example would be Witcher series. As far as combat mechanics go, the third was mediocre at best while the previous games thoroughly sucked* in that department. And it's still very successful, I even would say that the third game can easily get on a personal list of the best games they have ever played of many people, myself included.

* - this massive disappointment is exactly what made me go out seeking games with better combat, making me stumble onto FG genre eventually. And so I am here.

Still, if non-FG MK game will be ever made, there's a chance that it won't be NRS who will be busy with it. I don't know about exact relationship between NRS and WB, but I don't think WB absolutely cannot assign the project to a studio with more experience in whatever genre the game will belong to. Ofc someone from NRS will probably supervise lore, design and other stuff like that, but still.

I would probably pick up whatever they put out under the NetherRealm banner, but I’d be disappointed if it meant we would be getting a new Mortal Kombat much later than anticipated.

why would they do something else right now when they just learned how to make a good fighting game? voted for "bring back tobias" anyway

Shaolin was made by Midway and says Mortal Kombat, but it wasn't made by probably anyone who still works at NRS. That team died with Midway, and has since been absorbed into Activision where they make second rate shooters.

I'd love to see the Arkham guys or the Mordor guys or even the Lego guys take a stab at something in the MK (or even Injustice) universe, though. WB doesn't have a huge history of spin-offs but neither of those teams new games have been announced yet.

To be honest though, AC/Arkham/Mordor gameplay is getting replicated so much that it is slowly becoming old.
I'd say it's practically a genre of its own at this point. The real downside of an adventure MK game is that the game is centered around 1V1 and everything other than that is somewhat pointless and shallow.

I absolutely loved MK Mythologies: Sub Zero but acknowledged even at the time that the generic enemies didn't add much of anything to the gameplay. An action/adventure MK game that focused on Arkham style "enemies everywhere" combat first and foremost... Wouldn't be very MK. I never played Shaolin Monks or Deception's Konquest Mode so idk how they handled it then.

Best case scenario, the lesser enemies are absolute gory fodder with one enemy per group that poses a challenge and allows to to practice your kombos for the next boss encounter. Implement a few familiar mechanics like special moves/combo extenders and a DMC-style gravity once launched and you could have a solid start. I see way more potential in the hack n slash genre tbh. Focus on bosses and make everything else feel like fun practice.

I know they played with the idea in conquest but I'd love for them to go full out and make an RPG on the MK universe, and outside of Pokemon as a kid I don't even like RPGs lol.
But make the action side similiar to Shaolin Monks.

Outside of that I'd be very interested in them to try a new franchise completely, no MK or DC on a Shaolin Monks type game

Sub Zero Mythologies wasn't THAT bad, it was just too hard for most people but I've beaten it several times...

Shaolin Monks was good, not a fighting game and yes overseen by Ed Boon just not made by the same people but still their game, characters etc. I feel people judge on just Special Forces which is kind of dumb imo. Yeah, it sucked but the other two adventure games didn't suck. I'm sure NRS could if they tried given their resources now, it's just MK and Injustice are money for them and big right now.
