Not that I care , but lets assume that it was really a bug. Why fix a bug that nobody cared about , knowing that the fix would throw the characters balance off?
May or may not be tied to recent discovery of Hellboy's gun comedy gold. NRS may have found a similar issues with Brainiac (description given by 16 bit sounds eerily similar) and decided to fix it before someone gets screwed by it in some rare scenario at some event.
Ironically, they have still missed much more abusable issue with Hellboy himself.
That said, not just NRS, but other companies as well are known to fix unintended interactions even if community thought it should be
ascended for balance reasons instead.
