Fighting Game Community Attitudes

First, I would like to say welcome

Second, did anyone notice he said he uses... BLACK ADAM

Winning is winning and losing is losing. I remember in injustice 1 I used to get SUPER salty. It was my first NRS fighter and, To me, NRS fighters are broken compared to almost any other fighter.

I will also say that I was way young to the point that I would literally live and breathe injustice 1 and the joker MU that salt spewed off me.

Made enemies for sure, met cool people and so on.

One thing I learned growing up is who cares, it's a game. Sure I still get salty af but instead of raging I just get off and rage at my friends :D.

Since you're new, the salt will eventually flow, unless you're @BrianTheBEAST lol
Thanks for the welcome, man.

Yeah, I use Black Adam but I am a MAJOR fan of the Captain Marvel mythos and I've been a fan of brother Teth for decades. He was the main reason I purchased the game and a new PS4.

You're absolutely right, it's only a game but I guess people tend to forget that. I'm not saying I'm a saint or some great person, but I can tell you I HIGHLY DOUBT I'll ever get so "salty" as to get on my mic and rage at someone who beat me in battle by just spamming Deadshot or the like.

@Clark L. gave me great advice and said I'm going to get my @$$ kicked but just keep practicing and practicing.

If I get beat, I'll tell them gg and hope to get a rematch when I get better. Easy peasy....

Oh that's another thing that annoys me. You don't have to answer to anyone when it comes to your character choice. You play Black Adam because you enjoy the Shazam story, but if you play him because he's top tier, that's fine too.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad for your character choice. It's just another way people are scrubs. I play Black Adam because I like the character, AND he's really strong. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Awesome. I'm on the east coast (NYC) and I'll be on later tonight if you're game for it. I need the practice other than doing Multiverse ( I love da gear).

Purse first, ass last.
I wholly agree with this. Pick whoever you want for whatever reason, be it tier or not. Never change a character because of public perception.

On the flip side, just know that no one has to respect who you pick either especially using the more 'brain off' characters like Adam, Batman, Supes etc. Just ignore 'em and keep playing.

I personally will roast you for losing with top 5s vs a below top 10, but thats just me ;)

C'mon, bruh.

Some of us (me) are still learning. Remember, Joker and Scarecrow were considered jokes. Sonic and Whiteboi showed us the error of our ways....

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
I've seen quite a few Youtube battles of Injustice 2 and tend to notice people sometimes get an attitude when they get outplayed and beaten if their opponent doesn't fight them their way. I just looked at a video of someone getting mad because his Supergirl was beaten by Poison Ivy and didn't like the way he played.
unfortunately I think you'll find thats a fairly common mentality for members of the supergirl community for whatever reason. Character must just attract em.

"A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about."
Not really, and I don't care who said this, its just wrong. By this logic anyone who doesn't play BA or at least one of the surrounding 4 is a scrub. You can handicap yourself as much as you want, if anything you are just setting yourself extra challenges which isn't scrubby at all. It's only scrubbing when you start blaming or being rude to other people or whining for changes etc

let me guess you only ever lose to him because of the game, not because of your mistakes as a player right? scrub

Some of us said Scarecrow was top 5 before that, and some of us were just idiots who laughed at it and closed their eyes. Some people have foresight and know how to evaluate a character, others don't, this will never change. Nobody has seen the error of their ways, most of them are pretending right now that they knew it all along

If I beat a top 10 character with Joker or a top 5 character with Cheetah I'm talking mad shit on the mic, especially if they were tbagging and lost.

You have no reason to be losing using Batman/Supes/Adam etc. vs Cheetah, and if your Black Canary can't get in on Joker, well... lol!
Being a sore winner is just as bad as being a sore loser.

I don't care care about him having that strong of a trait, it's the fact that Dex can sit there until he expires rather than going away on hit.
Should I have to spend meter everytime just to shorten his trait life?
That as an example. Some are more frustrated in terms of balance.
As a MvC player balance isn't a concern since that game was BROKEN, but others don't feel the same way.
You'll see when you actually play
It's because his trait has a longer cooldown than most. If it went away on hit or pushblock it'd pretty much be a non-factor in matches. It makes sense for a trait like Batman's because he'll get his bats back in a few seconds.

I'll admit Dex needs to be toned down a little but him going away on hit would ruin the character imo.

From watching watching a lot of these top players talk about their time with losing and such I've noticed very few get upset (Sonicfox laughs and accepts). Everyone gets outplayed at some point, the people who don't look at why they lost and learn are doomed to be mediocre. Learn2lose and you'll get better and have more fun doing so.

Also youtube comments are the opposite of structured views on a playstyle, avoid it like the plague.

you'd have a point, but HoneyBee was a very dominant player 2 games running and that guy whines about everything, even when hes winning he blames balance when his opponent pulls off anything. His stream is basically unwatchable unless you mute it and just watch the play lol and I've heard tons say that

Terrible times breed terrible things, my lord.
This sort of shit comes with the territory. 15 or more years ago in a arcade no one would dare utter a word because your out there but that's a different story.

I'll say this. You win by any means necessary. Be fair of course like don't cheat or lag out but if you need to zone, zone. Do You. You want that win right? People rage and talk smack but guess what. You did You. You should feel happy you triggered someone because it gives you the real confirmations you are on the right track.

Keep practicing, battling, taking your L's and asking for help. Sounds like your already on the right track.

unfortunately I think you'll find thats a fairly common mentality for members of the supergirl community for whatever reason. Character must just attract em.
Incorrect. Maybe you meant the randoms you fight online who use Supergirl.

You're reading the quote wrong. Not using a top tier character isn't a 'self-imposed rule that the game knows nothing about'. A self-imposed rule would be things like "it's dishonorable to use the throw mechanic", thus not using it yourself. Or "spamming projectiles is cheap", etc. These are rules you make up that the game doesn't. You're handicapped by these made up rules and as a scrub you either aren't aware or you don't care.

(raises his hand)

I've learned the error of my ways. I admit I'm new to the fgc, but I digress...

I was on the bandwagon about nerfing Deadshot. But after a couple of weeks, I and others realized nerfing characters (any character) was not the answer and I freely admit I was wrong.

As for it's only scrubbing when you start blaming or being rude to other people or whining for changes etc, I agree wholeheartedly (hence this topic), being rude or whining is not the answer.

so if i win a bunch of games with a character by zoning, say to myself wow this felt skillfree as fuck and boring to me, you know what im going to play someone with a more fast paced playstyle who isn't a high tier either so that i know this game will remain challenging for myself to hold my interest - that makes me a scrub?

I mean, someone compared dex to mvc3 lvls of balance issues when obviously that isn't the case. In CEO, the top 24 all but 2 people used dr doom on their team( if I remember right).

Anyway, I totally hear you I get mad hate from people for zoning and playing keep away when I have a life lead like I'm supposed to allow them in on me to make it more fair?

Juggs made a super old post about this you should check out... I've been loving learning injustice but I still have a long way to go and I realize that. Hit confirming in this game and reading stuff is getting better for me everyday as I learn more counters by looking at match footage and learning what could I have done to beat x move. That is the way to become better imo not yelling at ur mic and saying "u only won cuz u spammingz".

I have noticed these games can be pretty toxic and teabagging happens a lot more here than anywhere else.

Well for one thing implying zoning is a skillfree playstyle is pretty scrubby. It can be just as if not harder than rushdown playstyles when playing against good players.

And again you are misunderstanding the quote. If you get more enjoyment out of playing a lower tier character that's fine. But if you expect everyone else to stop zoning because you think it is unfair then that would be a scrub mentality, because zoning is a legitimate playstyle. Basically if you bitch about someone using something that any person could do that's a scrub mentality. The only exceptions are things like lag switching for obvious reasons.

Yeah, @Juggs already led me to his article; very germane.

Thanks for participating on my topic. I wanna learn from everyone here.

You know I find you to be a genuine d***head but for some reason it's making me laugh lol and nah, I'll be the first to admit I'm making too many mistakes but with a flawed character like joker, 1 mistake= R.I.P.

i dont give a shit, it felt skillfree to me, read based sure, but execution free, i enjoy dirt hidden behind execution, and that wasnt there for me. It's ridiculous to pretend that this makes me a scrub, I don't care how others play, I have a personal set of things i enjoy in the game and thus i play it how i like. Anyone else can do the same.

The quote outright says '"A scrub is a player who is handicapped by self-imposed rules that the game knows nothing about." thats exactly what im doing, DELIBERATELY handicapping myself by self imposed rules (e.g I dont play a top 5 character because personally, it takes a lot of the feeling of success i get out of winning, or playing characters that have to work harder even tho its riskier its more rewarding and often has more depth). However, I do this because i enjoy the extra challenges and i enjoy swagging out with them, i dont blame my opponents for picking any character they want in fact i prefer fighting the hardest characters in the game, thats where you know the real fight is. Does that make me a scrub? I'd say it makes you a scrub if you think so, everyone can play the game how they choose. Either that quote is outright wrong, or if I just have to interpret it differently for it to be right then its extremely poorly written and a stupid quote regardless. IDC who said it.
