Tekken 7 General Discussion Thread - OP Updated With All Tekken Info

Believe in the hop kick
I'm usually a fan of characters that move well and have good mobility in general..I usually feel most comfortable when I can move around more or less freely. I also tend to favor characters with moves that look like what they are.. which I know sounds kind of weird.. but to try and use a very basic example, take two characters that both have a whiff punish move, both moves are equally good and have similar frame data , one is just an obvious, straight forward looking punch and one is some weird spinning kick thing or something.. I am usually more comfortable on the guy who threw a normal looking punch. I guess another way to say it is I like characters with a clear visual language to their moveset.

As an example, in sfiv I mained Decapre. High speed, enormous mobility, and at least to me, her moves looked like what they did. If it looked like an AA it worked as an AA. In SFV.. well, that's a different story, but I have finally settled in Karin/Cammy. Again, mobility, clean and clear visual language, speed.
Ok, that to me sounds like Bryan or Dragunov.

i felt your struggle, but i don't really blame you, you don't have the game, and you went on vs JDCR, for a player who never touched the game i believe you did the best you could.

Just less than 50 days man, whe're almost there.
Yea. I actually wanted to fight him. Wanted to see the skill gap between me and "them" I lost but I didn't feel overwhelmed.

I wrecked who I needed to on the way to him. My friend ran the brackets and got me as close to him as he could. Other as were all freaked out and resigned. Not me I wanted to learn from that fight and I did. Starting to understand the mindset and decisions of a player like that.

Month and a half longer. Then I can get to it.

Yup. That's correct. There was no mention of 360 sticks at all, which goes to show you how screwed XBOX fighting games are (lol). But I bought my XB1 for Killer Instinct (a game I no longer play, but had some fun with) and I've been enjoying the console otherwise, so I really can't complain.

Still, a PS4 buy may be due next year, depending on the size of the XB FGC for INJ2 & possibly Tekken 7, the console of choice for online tournaments and some other factors.

Getting back to fightsticks here, I can tell you that I'm considering replacing just my joystick for a brand new one online. See, my Hori stick is used and I've had it for two years and I may decide I want the precision of a new part, without any wear. Recently, I've been attempting to learn Korean backdashing and forward dashing, with my stick in Tekken Tag 2, using the backwards compatibility feature on XBOX One, with some mixed results.

Long story short, I'm getting a lot of unwanted inputs, when I attempt to release the stick, so that it returns to neutral. It's nothing that would matter too much for Injustice, but a fighter like Tekken, which demands execution, may require a stick up to the task.

So again. Be very careful regarding your stick purchase. Lean towards new, and consider your options carefully. That's my advice.
Alright, got it. Thanks man. Btw what stick are you going to get to replace your old hori?

It's all so very confusing.
Just a quick aside for the stick folks..

My understanding is Tekken players prefer a stick that's (there's just no way to say this stuff without it sounding ridiculous) very stiff and not as loose as the typical Sanwa sticks are?

If you have a Sanwa you can go to Home Depo or Lowe's or some equivalent giant add hardware store, and buy a spring that will replace the stock spring in the Sanwa and really tighten up the throw. Costs about 2$ and replaces your stock spring so you can set it aside and switch back if you ever want to.. takes sub 5min to install, faster if you have a stick that opens up easily. Mine has screws to remove to get at the inside.

At home depo/Lowe's there should be b aisle that sells stuff for screen and storm doors. It will have big ass springs and the shock mechanisms and such for the doors, along with handles and all that. In that aisle should be a display, at my Home Depo it's green and a fake wood laminate in color. The display as smaller springs and hardware specifically for these doors..On the bottom.right of that display for like 2-5$ (mine was on sale for 2.50$) there is a little clear plastic package full of assorted springs. Like probably 50 little bitty ones in a number of shapes and lengths and sizes and all that. Buy it. Inside should be several different springs that will fit your SanwA JLF, you can experiment with using two or more.odnthr very soft ones put together to tailor the sticks feel , and there should be one or two in there that work by themselves and are very very stiff. You can try out several different configurations.of them to really dial in the sticks throw to exactly what you want. Sanwa I believe makes a stiffer spring, but this method is way cheaper and allows for customization.

Well i prefer a stick thats somewhere in the middle of stiff and loose..I main kazuya so its pretty important to have a comfy stick. Not really a hardware buff, so i might just have mine serviced or something.

I just hope the ps3 compatibility is true.

Have you guys seen Yellow Motion roster prediction?

So this is basically what my friend was saying, Elisa in includes pretty much these 4 as well, though i think there is a 5th character that is Zafina, this will definitely close out the roster of Tekken 7 in the end.

We won't be seeing, Michelle, Lili's butler, ogre/true ogre, Jinpachi or Jaycee which Harada ruled as 1 time thing., and maybe the last slot is for Mokujin.

Just imagine man, This Jin is amazing, now having Kuni and Akira as the guest if this ends up to be real, this will be my all time favorite tekken ever. Specially if i can play it with a PS3 stick.

No I haven't, but it reminds me of a comment by Harada, stating that he'd basically have to add 130+ characters to the game to satisfy everyone (lols). Personally...sure, I'd be cool with that.

Not that I'm a fan of very large rosters, because I'm a player that wants to memorize as much frame data as possible, and that would be 6 more characters to learn. But hey, if they add playing styles that aren't currently in the game, and ppl want them, I'm all for it.

Way back in the day, when I was a young kid (because that was a thing, once upon a time) I used to play Tekken 3 casually, on the original PlayStation. It was my introduction to the series, and really the only Tekken I've played on a regular basis. I had one of those strategy books with all the moves. and I used to mess with a TON of characters - King, Hworang, Jin, Julia, Xiaoyu, Yoshi, Paul, Nina, Bryan, Heihachi, Eddy, Lei - and Lei Wulong is not in Tekken 7, currently.

I'm sure he'd be just as annoying as a Capo, or Ling or Chloe, if not more so, but I do love the character, just for his different Chinese martial arts stances. I'd also like to see Jun, because of the Lore, and I never played Tekken 2, so I don't know much about her style.

Gunslinger since pre patch (sh/out to The Farmer)
So it turns out the guy who I was to be bodied by on stream at Hypespotting was none other than Kaneandtrench.

Not only the Yoshimitsu player who won Tekken 7 at Hypespotting in the end anyway but also the same guy who'd already won the UK KOTIF tournament.

So that was a fun 0-3 hahaha. Didn't realise it was him until I was chatting to him before our match, asked him his name and it rang a bell but then he told me that he won the KOTIF UK tournament and at that point I knew I was done lol.

Played Hwoarang throughout the tournament and basically relied on the same buttons I'd learned from something like an hour in practice mode in TTT2 the day before lol, but was saddened to find two of the three launchers I was using only launch on counter hit now (d/f2 and D44). Still, I went 2-2 and didn't really expect to win at all to be honest so it was a lot of fun :D Might grab T7 when it comes out if I'm not too busy with Injustice 2 but I've basically everything to learn haha

You will love Tekken 7 i'm sure of it.
Lei and Anna are definitely the next reveal in line, mostly sure.
But there is 6 slots left, so i think if Kunimitsu is to be in this game she will be the last reveal along with Jun.

While Kuni started as a clone of Yoshi, she was completely redesigned from ground up in TTT2 and Tekken Revolution, kinda painful to see that design go away, she only shares a few moves with Yoshi.

For example her u3+4
33,
ff3+4,2,4 which Yoshi has a version from
The BT stance
and B111111 and df333333 are the things they both have in common

But then it comes down to how Kunimitsu fight, these tools are so generic that she rarely uses them
Kuni is a character with one of easiest ranged punishes in the game, and she has a long range launcher, and long range mid, she has a really strong offense in her command dash stance with a safe CH launcher, a 50-50 mixup on wakeup panic moves, hop kicks, and she hits so hard, even harder than master raven currently does in T7.

Asuka is basically the replacement of Jun, but Jun design is totally different, i can't really say much on her, but @DarkSlayerSmith does, i think the main difference is, while Asuka plays more in defense with pokes and panic moves, Jun is a rushdown monster with 50-50s and really good damage even off her panic launchers.

Man I'd buy 3 copies if they actually add Anna or Zafina. I'm hyped for Eliza, Lee and Chloe but I'd really like my mains back lol.

Hwoarang's df2 is one of the "generic df2's" in Tekken. Others that have it are Baek, Lee, Paul, Alisa, Lei, Law aaaaand not quite sure who else atm. Despite the slightly varying hitboxes and visual appearances between characters, all these share the property of not launching crouchers despite being mid. To launch, you must hit the opponent moving forward, moving sideways, as a counterhit or a punish. Pretty much all of these df2's have some tracking to the character's right (only sidesteps, not fully committed sidewalks) and all of them are safe on block.

Yeah, me too. It's a shame that there are two fighting games that I really want to play, being released less than a month away from each other. Personally though, I see Tekken as a long-term goal and commitment, while Injustice 2 is a sort of "here and now" kind of thing. The lifespan of NRS games are very short, while Tekken 7 was born in the arcades 2 years ago, and will probably be around many years from now.

But I don't expect the game to be easy to learn and master. Aris (Tekken commentator) said he spoke with JDCR (top player) and he said that, to just get decent at Tekken, it takes upwards of 2 years. That's the amount of dedication necessary, and I'm determined to give it the time and effort required... sometime in the future.

My plan is, to learn Injustice 2 and be competitive online with it, if I enjoy the game, but also begin to move and get used to the Tekken 7 mechanics. If all goes as planned, I'll be over to Tekken full time as soon as NRS publishes another game. And maybe that's where I plan to end up.

Anyway, congrats on the 2-2 showing. That's a bigger accomplishment than you may be aware of.

Jin has it too.

Kinda ironic, he is like he has everything now, every possible mechanic or archtype divided into chars in tekken he has even if not as strong.
he is a mishima, has hop kicks, parry, auto parry, CH game, defense game, wall game, command throws, wall splat moves, stances, crushing moves, 50-50 game, rush down, game, poking game, whiff punishing game

The Tekken 7 UK Championship will be coming to Dublin, Ireland this Saturday, the 22nd. The event starts at 11:00 am (Ireland time, I believe) and will be streamed on the Bandai Namco Europe twitch channel. https://www.bandainamcoent.eu/news/2017/03/07/tekken-7-uk-championships/6054

I personally don't have time to watch the whole event, but I will definitely tune in to Top 8, if I can get the stream schedule. (It may be on fb, but I'm at work and can't check at the moment).

Have fun with Injustice 2 guys, i'm still not sure if i will play it, though i will follow the scene, but i will take this opportunity to learn tekken for the next 2 years to the time NRS announces MK 11, i will fully commit to tekken until then as the primary game, i didn't do it with Tag 2 because i was focused more in SF4 back then, MK9 and TTT2 in the mix so TTT2 ended up being the game i played less, but still was super fun whenever we played in the weekends, even when MK9 died out and IGAU came out, SF4 and Tekken was where we going at it.

But this SF5 isn't as impressive as his previous version and neither is as technical as well, the gameplan is very simplistic and kind of annoying to work with a flow chart, however we're all drooling over Tekken 7 for sure, my community isn't much of a fan of Injustice, but lets see what they will play regardless.

It's all good. If I don't like Injustice 2, or there are serious balance issues (or both), I'll be joining you on "full-time" Tekken 7 status, quick-fast :D - Until then, enjoy T7 and continue to post your tech, all of it helps.

I hope you have a good T7 local scene. That would be awesome! And yeah, SFV is a big disappointment to a lot of players, but there are still good fighting games around, so... thank heavens.

Believe in the hop kick

This is a very good set. Also shows a few things.

- Bryan's new FC df4 recovers standing and launches into tailspin on CH
- Fisherman's slam takes half life without walls (b2,1,4 - qcf 4,1,2
- New SS1 seems to be faster than the old one, not sure if it launches on normal hit or only on CH

- Devil Jin has a kick extension to WS1, looks like a WS1,4. Knocks down and probably wallsplats as well.

I'm not sure how big we will be, but for Tekken Standards, the first Tag 2 tournament we did, it was stacked for our regular numbers in MK scenes which are often 25 players to 32.

I know quite a few who will help build the scene quite fast as well, since now more people are waiting the game old times and everything coming back, i hope we get just enough as for our MK tournaments. Specially now that is 1 vs 1, more ppl will pick up the game and play it more competitively, we will make ourselves heard that there is a tekken 7 scene and we're freely inviting tekken players to join in no matter what tekken they played and who they are.

In my friends alone we're around nearly 10 to 15 guys, and then there is their friends and their scenes, so we shall see.
