Street Fighter V General Discussion

Top tier in general need toning down for season 2. It wouldn't hurt to add more depth to characters either so it isn't just Ryu pressing medium punch because it automatically combos on hit and frame traps on block

Normalize grab immunity.
really? Because I interpreted that as "I dunno but there's 2 of us go fuck yourselves there's 5 chuns, 6 kens, 4 nashs, 3 ryus, 6 necallis and 10 cammys in the top 10 players, but yeah maybe."

For Mika to be "overpowered" I think she'd have to be, ya know the best character in the game. Or at least top 3. There are like 7 characters that you could argue are at her level as far as toolsets go. As for wether or not you think the character is easier to play I don't really think that factors into a characters tier ranking.

Just to be thorough the characters I think you could argue are in a similar position to Mika as far as tiers are concerned would be

Ryu
Chun
Ken
Nash
Cammy
Karin
Necalli

In no particular order.
I expected Vega in that list. Thought you always considered him high up.

As much as Myles has his complain setting on constantly he does make some actual good points here and then, also these profiles are cool.
I can't speak for everyone but I never thought myles was completely wrong. Just he'll mix legit complaints with crazy bold claims using irrelevant evidence. And when you disagree with a part he'll take that as disagreeing with everything.

i think vega, Alex, guile, and Urien are right outside that group. Urien honestly might be in it.

As for Myles he makes enough random complaints that he gets one or two right from time to time. The blind clock finds a nut twice a day or some shit.

It's all so very confusing.
I look forward to seeing Urien played as time goes by. My main training partner thinks Alex and Urien and Guile (all characters he plays to lesser and greater degrees) are lucky to be middle of the road, but I dont are that.

Urien has some interesting shit. Normals you don't measure in inches or feet, but acreage. Reasonable damage - he's not Necalli but those aren't love taps either. Fireball game has options.

Alex has mile-long normals too and he HURTS when he hits you. Idiot-proof AA in st.jab that leads into a 50/50, one half of said 50/50 leads in to another 50/50 (though Vega *seems* to be able to literally walk backwards out of the command grab). Vskill is crazy useful, etc. No reversal or 3fer but he still has a ton of tools and he packs stun on like no one else I can think of. You simply can't touch the air vs him and his AA punishes are heavy damage, walking through his normals isnt easy at all for a lot of characters.

Guile.. well, we've been seeing Guile do work lately. I've always thought he was good. On paper he isn't that impressive I guess, but he controls the air and then forward approach vs a lot of characters. He doesn't have wild combo damage outside of certain specific situations but he can put hands (and feet and booms) on you very easily and often enough to keep up in damage.

I'm not claiming any of these characters are Op or top tier or anything but I think they are super strong and don't get the wide-audience exposure they deserve. Its easier to win on some characters in this game than others, that's for damn sure, but that upper-but-not-quite-top tier fleshes out differently than some people think imo.

I'm having an SFV crisis.. debating on learning a secondary character but can't decide. I feel like I'm stagnant and just not improving. I'm backsliding because in just getting frustrated and annoyed. Thought about Guile, Ibuki, Urien, Cammy.. I don't know.. I love Ibuki but she frustrates me, so maybe not her..

Bahhhhhhhhh. I main Vega and dont plan to change that. Just want to switch things up and try to break out of this slump. Maybe I just need a break from V in general I dunno.

I'm definitely not the authority on Urien or Alex, but those are my two mains so I'll share my 2 cents.

I think Urien is a better character and can actually rack up more stun than Alex--I stun with him more often than Alex due to how much easier it is to land a Urien headbutt vs an Alex headbutt. I also think Urien's normals are better in that you don't eat a full jump in punish if you whiff a cr.MP like you can with Alex.

Alex suffers from being forced to play FAR too defensively given his opponent. Almost every character is better off playing aggressively, but vs Alex most other characters can do this with a lot more speed. My training partners main Rashid and Karin and ughhhhh can they be frustrating. Alex can AA great with st.LP, but he cannot do much about crossups--and smart players will only go for crossups, knowing that you can't reliably AA and you'll lose any elbow charge. Urien on the other hand can AA crossups or regular jump-ins all day with st.HK (close/mid) and f.MP (far). Urien also has the benefit of 4 different overhead options a superior Vtrigger.

I'm not saying Alex is bad, just that he isn't as good as Urien. Alex is an easier character to play, but requires much more work to win consistently. I'd put Urien easily in the top 10 characters, while I'd say Alex is maybe middle of the pack.

if Urien is at the end of top 10 and Alex is middle of the pack that puts him one character behind Urien. Possibly 2. But I do agree that Urien is better.

Didn't you say Necalli/Ken were mid tier and that there was nothing wrong with R.Mika pushblocking people in a vortex among other ridiculous things?

I have to elaborate on this R.Mika V-reversal because you just don't understand the extent to how broken and stupid it is. The character is rewarded for being OUTPLAYED with V-meter to V-reversal you into a vortex...

mid tier being 5-7 on the tier lists yeah. I said that. As for mikas v reversal it's punishable on a read, so maybe predict it? Or use tick throws? Or think when you're pressuring? Or block it and be plus 2? All viable options.

This is why I cannot take this game seriously. People have the ability to pushblock you into a vortex and they think it isn't a big a deal because if they do it in the worst situation possible they might get thrown or be -2 with pushback

Fix this game Capcom.

a move that costs resources and is punishable being plus 1 on hit isn't that big of a deal. I'd take it over letting Mika have nadeshiko all day every day.

There's nothing more satisfying than sucessfully converting into a boom loops. But there's nothing worse than when you read a jump and your cr.hp or Flask Kick gets counter hit smh.

I only just got the game like a month ago finally but my first impression is the exact same. Alex is very easy to pick up but not so easy to win with against any real level of competence.

I'll gladly take a middle of the road grappler though after the struggle that was Hugo and T Hawk. I'm still hoping they'll throw us one more in season 2 and think somehow Hakan might stand the best chance. I'd be hype too lol.

hugo and t hawk were underrated not bad. They did have some really shit matchups though, but they also had good ones. I mained guy and those were at least 7-3 against me.

Neither one was even close to Alex's tier. And then they even nerfed T Hawk when he was already ass tier. He ended up sub-ass tier.

And Guy was buns against command grabs but 7-3 is a stretch. Those two had some matchups that wish they were 7-3 though lol.

Lets break this down, you reset into a low activate, do another low into clothesline which doesn't combo giving me 3 opportunities to block one is punishable. Furthermore, where is the 50/50? the only time I would not be blocking low in this situation is if I would die from your overhead chop. However if i'm that low you could simply just activate from lariat and kill me regardless.

I kind of like his gimmick though. Makes me want to start mashing buttons in training and posting the videos here under the tag "mediocre luigi."
