DLC plans + pay to unlock

Fuck oath I am bitter. I hate to see the slow death of something I love.
If you think DLC profits go back into making future games and not into the pockets of the owners you are seriously delusional.
I'm glad you didn't read the NRS dev post and that you figured out people make money in the world. Lol.

The developer will obviously say whatever he has to.
And everyone knows nrs release broken dlc to get sales.

And hold the fuck up for a sec.
You are the one that alluded that dlc profits went into making future games.

You really think that shit is HARDER to unlock now than it was 10 years ago? You have never played a GTA before 5 or Call of Duty before Black Ops II, have you?
I started with GTA 2 and world at war thank you.
You tell me how long it would take you to unlock that 8 million dollar yacht in GTA5
Or that fancy car or mansion.

Or to get the new weapons in black ops 3
You could essentially play forever in black ops 3 and never get the gun you want.

We'll have to wait until more definite info is given about how the gear system will work. If NRS handles it wrong, it could screw up the competitive scene and perhaps the game as a whole.
Considering that there's supposed to be a "level playing field" mode that'll ignore gear and levels for competitive play, it shouldn't.

Overwatch is the only game that has done it right and fair.

It's all cosmetic and you get 20% credit back on duplicates so you can purchase the item you want instead of gambling and hoping.

( I'm going to bed, it's 3am here.
Look forward to the sea of disagrees tomorrow.. Stupid-ass system..)

If you're not in tournament mode however and just playing online to get games, gear imbalance could become a problem, seeing how there you only get games vs people with gear and you're at a disadvantage if you don't use gear yourself.

Please. They make a friggin fortune on initial sales alone.
Dlc is just so the CEO can buy his daughter a pink labourghini for her sweet sixteenth.

And it doesn't have to take tons of time! They intentionally make it extensive to persuade you to take the easy option.
This is what happened with Madden introducing Madden Ultimate team. You basically would have had to do tons of Solo challenges (Towers in MK/Injustice Terms) to level up your team. And I mean HOURS to just be decent. Or pay tons of money.

The issue is that not only did it kill off the tournament community, but it caused a split in the community. Those that love the RPG elements of it and those who couldn't care less and just want high level competition.

If it turns out similarly this will be terrible.

I try to stay positive though....

Ed Boon also stated that they're considering a separate ranked ladder using the tournament ruleset.

There shouldn't be a split within the tournament community because there's going to be a level playing field, gear-less "tournament mode" for us.

No one in the FGC cares for RPG elements in their fighting games.

The lift is strong in this one
All I'm gonna say is that each nrs game has had more doc than the one previous. Each game has also had more support than the one previous. And a lot of this support has been shown to the tournament scene. Mkx has had 2 packs of dlc, prolly like 20 costumes, 3 special ninja costumes... All this cost money. But mkx also had the most tournaments with 10k pot bonuses, 3 seasons of esl, 50k bonus to evo. They may keep some for future games or personal bonuses, but they sure as fuck have given back to the community. And i think this will only grow with injustice 2

That pay to unlock option isn't for you. There are actually people in the world who have lives and still play video games that don't have tons to time to invest.

Also, how do you think post release companies make money while other games are in development? For free?

DLC is a model to get more revenue otherwise there wouldn't be more games.
You're missing the point and using a strawman. Paying for a competitive advantage is a big no-no in a game that tries to take itself seriously in the FGC. We don't even know if there will be a game mode online for no gear stats so it could very well be that people who purchase this unlock have an advantage for day 1 online.

Coding a "If paid unlock X" bit of code isn't extra work that should amount to compensation so the whole "they should be compensated for their work" argument is bullshit. It technically isn't even DLC since you're not downloading any new content.

The most important thing you're missing is that, like the Krypt in MKX, the grind to unlock everything is intentionally padded to make it more enticing for people to pay for the unlock. Yes it is for people who don't want to put in the time to get it but that's missing the point that it doesn't have to be designed in the manner to begin with. It's scummy as is, but it's exponentially more scummy when involves a competitive advantage. This WILL come back to haunt them either at release or in a big pre-release press conference where this gets more coverage, especially if there is no tournament mode online play. It came back to haunt every game that has done that to my memory, most recently Battlefront with the pre-order super pistol.

You are pulling shit out of your ass and sound bitter

That is about Goro and other DLC characters. It in no way pertains to the Krypt unlock and his argument in the blog can't even be applied to the Krypt unlock.

Even if they provide a mode where gear isn't a factor- gear looks fun. I'd like to be able to play in a mode that has it, but not be at a disadvantage to people who paid for better gear. Saying "there's a competitive mode" isn't really enough.

Why can't I play with gear but not have to deal with people who buy level 8 flaming sword of Paulo?

I hope they reconsider this approach.

**EDIT**
Went through the full article. Those snippets are a bit out of context. It suggests they'll have a means for people who don't play much to still participate in the gear system but doesn't specify how. This could mean many things, including just providing initial gear at the start or even gear presets.

I'd wait for more info.

I can list egretiously difficult unlocks in games too, see?;

You think those were all designed for fun? You think the publishers of those games aren't kicking themselves for not being able to charge people for a shortcut to those?

How is it fun to just have everything unlocked from the start? Fuck that. I feel like the replay value is increased tenfold when you can unlock different pieces of gear after each fight. Shit, I play characters I don't even like in MKX just to unlock their icons, backgrounds and borders.

I'm sure there will be some really good legendary level gear to unlock. I'll be pumped when I finally unlock a beard for Aquaman (there damn well better be a beard for Aquaman, btw. And long hair. And a hook hand).

I'm fine with it, it's optional and not everyone will have 24/7 to invest playing like @Euphoric said. To those who don't like it, don't buy the game or the MT's grind it out but please don't bitch about it either...Even Ed Boon said in an interview during E3 "not everyone may have the time or want to grind it out etc"

The whole "that's how they make more money blah, blah" is moot since they ALL want to make money, all games have DLC, all games cost money to begin with. Let me ask those complaining, you make a game you'll charge nothing for it? Bullshit lol, that's a lot of hard work, hours spent going into these games. I think people take it for granted.

Except for the 80ties, when designing a video game took hardly some days, every game and every business is about making money. You as the costumer have the choice to buy or refuse the product.
And there's nothing wrong in giving the player a good challenge. It's rather a modern thing that in todays games you only have to invest time to beat it or to get special achivements.
Exactly, I don't get why some people live in the past when it was entirely different era for video games yet people act as if they have a gun to their head to buy the game, DLC and MT's when it's all optional. I mean it's not like they're making you buy locked on disc costumes and real endings or offer the game for free yet force you to buy more characters like some other companies out there. But apparently some folks are whining about optional MT's. SMH.

Honestly this is almost as bad a reason to hate on the game as something I read on YT other day(which was way worse) few people casuals no doubt bitched because they didn't like how the guys animation is when he loses he gets up then falls to his knees...a few even said they wouldn't buy it cause of that, I was like wow seriously? lol That had to be the dumbest thing I've read since someone complaining about Flash's lips and ass from Injustice 1....

All communities fight, disagree etc and Capcom does worse shit than NRS lol...fact. I think some people need to look up the definition of the word optional.

yeah, great comparison.

How much actual content is locked behind a grind in early GTAs? Now long is the grind to unlock everything in SFV for example? Yeah, that's what I thought. This is not a complaint about SFV model either however as they made and sold a game with a known amount of fighters, and need can't develop more for free after release, ALSO none of their unlockables affects balance - but this upgrade DLC model for Injustice 2 is just a day one P2W screen :/

I don't see how anyone can pretend this is something it isn't. It's cool if you don't have an issue with P2W games, if that's you its you, but let's not pretend that it's not something when it is.

it's cool that gamers now know more about games in development than the people making them.
where did anyone comment on the development process?

I didn't waste a dime on the Krypt, and I most likely won't waste a dime unlocking the gears either.
The thing is, so far, you get the gears randomly so maybe you never get the gear you want, and there are thousands and thousands of gears if what Boon said is true.

This is true, people want things easy yet they don't want an option to buy them if they have no time or have a hard time getting the stuff by playing. One thing I really like that isn't talked much about is even the losers not just the winners of matches get stuff I've noticed, this is a plus if they just did it for winners that would be a bitch if you sucked or struggled at the game but I like how they give stuff just for playing.

You like hook hand AM? ehh lol I prefer two hands Arthur personally :p
