Match-Up Discussion - Scorpion Who do you think Scorpion beats right now?

JTB123

>>R2 - BF4 = Unblockable.
With the recent changes to the game I don't think there is any question that Scorpion has been bumped up on the good old tier list and this got me thinking; despite the buffs he has received and the nerfs other characters have received, in particular characters that used to give him trouble I was talking with @TheGabStandard and @Phosferrax and we were trying to think of characters that Scorpion actually beats in this game.

Quite surprisingly, we found it rather difficult. I am talking characters here as well, not variations so if you think for example that Scorpion 6-4's master of souls Ermac but loses to mystic and spectral then he wouldn't count. There are plenty of characters I feel very comfortable against but am hesitant to outrightly say Scorpion beats them. That is more due to experience though so take that with a pinch of salt.

What do you guys think? I'm not looking for match up numbers here, just curious.

@YOMI RM JagoBlake @God Confirm @Ze Dingo @Eddy Wang @STRYKIE @Slips @YOMI MITYEAP @Mitsuownes @JINAMOUNAINAI @Aizen Taicho @Matix218 @Scoot Magee @sorry for the one person I've forgotten to tag because I always do

I think Hellfire solidly beats Jacqui easy, Raiden, Kitana (every *EDIT: "both" :p * Scorp variation should wreck her), Triborg, Tanya, Kenshi, and thats probably it.

That is however, to be expected. He 5-5's the majority of the cast. I'd say Hellfire's losing match ups are DVorah, Kano, Spectral, and his pupil Takeda. Mileena maybe, not sure if shes bad enough to call a losing MU, but Sai spam is difficult to Teleport through, but maybe I need to level up on this one. What do others think of Mileenas Sai zoning?

How does he do against Erron in your opinon on the highest level? Gunslinger and Outlaw to be exact. I have had some nice even sets against Scorpiion players, but I am by no means a pro or even average at this game.

It's probably down to how much Mileena experience I have but as Scorpion sai zoning isn't too much of a problem. I think if you're having a good day you can reactionary punish with teleport but I wouldn't say it's easy. Since her buffs I haven't played that match up as often as I used to but I don't think it's too bad.

Unfortunately I haven't played many Errons. That said the ones I have played I always do very well with Scorpion. I played Erron for a while too before Gunslinger got his buffs and I'd say that match up is probably even across the board. I could maybe see HF doing a bit better in the long run though.

I actually feel Marksman would do much better in that match up but I haven't played a single one so all I have is ideas unfortunately.

Scorpion in such a honest character, he goes even with mostly anyone in the cast, there is arguably a few 6-4 here and there.

I think Ninjutsu beats Kung Jin, Kenshi, Jacqui, Sub, Predator, Two Kitana's variations.
Kung Jin was one I was thinking of too, I think Scorp handles him very well and in particular Shaolin you can out damage him severely if meter is not a factor.

Outlaw & Marksman break even with Ninjutsu. Slight advantage Gunslinger. Only because of his pressure on wakeup & his mixup potential with Stance.

Get over here!
Any tips brother?
Against piercing on a good connection you should be able to reaction teleport sais if you have good reactions. Also if they try their teleport into air sai garbage (instant sai or delay sai) just block the teleport and instantly do a forward dash then full combo punish her with 214 teleport b3 spear (this will work regardless of how instant or delayed she does the air sai as the forward dash will cause the sai to whiff).

In the neutral a good piercing mileena will still regulate scorpion in any variation with b12 but ninjutsu will fair the best due to his f2 range.

I think the matchup is probably 5-5 but I can't say for sure.

@JTB123 when im on my pc later and not on my phone ill give a full reply to your OP with my thoughts on winning matchups.

I cant speak for face to face matches but online, sai's seem worthless against scorpion. I've been told it's 5-5 by Akro but I think it's 4-5 in Scorps favor.

why? Does Scorpion just TP through them?

I just picked up Scorpion so this couldn't have came at a better time. Since this is my day 1 ninjutsu feel free to not take my opinion seriously, but I think ninjutsu does well against Kenshi, and Kung Jin for starters. I'd imagine he beats more but these are just my very early observations.

I play Mileena as well & she definitely beats him. His lack of good mids in the neutral really hurts him against Piercing. B12 really dominates and all he really has is D4. He has to play off of her which is an issue. Even Ninjutsu's F2 isn't enough.

MU Tips:
- TP Sais on reaction.
- Telekick xx Sai can be forward dashed to eliminate 50/50 upon blocking.
- Mileena's 50/50s aren't that scary just remember she'll always have meter & practice throw techs.

Ze Dingo

D4->F2 = unblockable. Ice Clone = unpunishable.
I think scorpion destroys predator, Inferno shuts down everything HQT has! I'll trade your low plasma shit with low minion and day lololol
I actually mentioned this in the Scorpion PM group, I believe.

Anyway, I am of the opinion that each variation should be treated as it's own character. I don't understand the point of comparing to an entire character because you can't use 2 variations in a single match. I think it's moot.

That being said, I think Ninjutsu demolishes Kenshi. I think he beats Raiden, Jacqui, Sub (maybe), Kung Jin (Shaolin might be even because of how safe he can be).

Damn y'all fools in a PM? No invite? Lol

Nonetheless, I agree with the variations being treated as individuals.

Ninjutsu beats GM slight advantage. GM is nothing in the neutral without ice clone. F2 punishes all clone cancels except for F4 xx clone and can TP on reaction to shatter/throw. His only claim to fame is a corner lockdown.

I don't think Ninjutsu beats grandmaster. If he keeps the right range, he can just Klone and keep walking you carefully. You don't have a reliable way to shatter the Klone since he has no zoning tools. A good sub wouldn't throw ice ball or throw/shatter Klone mid screen with the threat of tele, or do an unsafe Klone cancel in general so that's not even an issue for him really. It's pretty much a stalemate at midscreen, but Scorpion gets decimated in the corner. 6-4 Sub imo.

We're talking at the highest here. Unless it's a hard knockdown the clone gets punished on reaction whenever it comes on screen. Subz literally has nothing to bother Scorpion midscreen & tips in Scotps favor whether he walks in front the clone to catch the TP. Every character gets beat in the corner that's why it's the corner. You can based a MU solely on that fact.

I was also talking about about Subz clone shatter special.

Sub still has a 50/50 and a good D4, he's not completely toothless without the Klone. Scorpion, especially in ninjutsu isn't going to really pressure him. Way I see it is they both have mostly unsafe ways of opening each other up, but the difference is once Sub opens Scorpion up, he gets the corner where it is heavily in his advantage, if Scorpion opens sub up, they are put back into a situation pretty similar to before. I think simply because of the reward Sun gains once he opens him up, it makes up for his slight disadvantage in the neutral. Maybe I just haven't played a good ninjutsu. Those are good points so I could see it being bumped down to 5-5, but I honestly don't see Ninjutsu taking this one. That being said with all of what you have mentioned, I can't really see Sub taking it either...

Why d'vorah
He can't get big punishes off reading the 50/50 right, everything is safe. He can't play footsies against DVorahs buttons (this is Hellfire here, not Ninjutsu). His space control is largely Flame Auras, JiK's, and S3s, all of which are resoundingly less effective in this MU. Also, the nature of the match itself is slanted against his playstyle. DVorah is probably the second worst MU he has.
