General/Other - Kenshi Kenshi General Discussion Thread

Balanced rapes Bo. Bo runs so slow he can hardly capitalize on TF's poor whiff recovery, BarTITsu has nice range and all but Balanced can definitely contest with shoulder, B1 and F2, he gets to blow up his plethora of gaps for a full combo too.
Also can we all stop thinking Balanced vs. GM is 7-3? It's hardly a winning matchup.. yeah, sure Balanced gets to shut down the clone but then what? It's not like Balanced gets to play his game and actually zone Scrub Zero.

E:SZ can also bait all of Kenshi's options and full combo punish all of them, except for EX shoulder.

With a bar of meter you can kind of autopilot vs War God and blow up anything he can do. B12 or B122 staggers get full combo'd by standing 2, EX rising karma blows up any gaps. With the new B1 buff, it easily punishes all swords on block, even B122 overhead sword.

Despite that I think the difference in buttons still makes it even, or even gives War God the edge. I didn't mean to bring it up as like one of Balanced's more favorable match ups, I just figured i'd give my insight since I main War God.
That's true, I forgot about the B1 buff changing matchups like that.
Bartitsu Bo Rai Cho (not sure about the other two variations). Currently he gets mopped by Balanced. If he gets in, he can play his game, but in this matchup Balanced has a real opportunity of not letting him get close a single time. Basically this matchup feels like playing mk9 Kenshi. This guy needs a better run, seriously.

Jason used to be free, but not anymore since his recent buffs. It has become another bad matchup for Balanced, sadly.
Gm Sub Zero is actually only like a 5.5-4.5 in Balanced favor. Cryo is like a 5-5, and unbreakable...I don't know good ones to judge.
I feel pretty comfortable vs Thunder god Raiden also, but I don't know if it's just me, I would not dare to give numbers in this case.
Ironically, Balanced works pretty well vs the other two variations of Kenshi too.

I don't think Balanced has more good matchups.
Oh yeah I didn't even think about Bo Rai Cho, sheesh... but I have an idea of one more possibility ;)

Hmm... I'm curious, whom are you thinking about? Let's see if we agree!

I reckon he does decently against Spectral actually :p Probably closer to even than winning but he does decently.
Hmm..I don't know. I don't have much experience vs Spectral. I know Kenshi definitely loses versus Master of Storms though, but spectral does not have the soul ball, so maybe you have reason, yes!

Master of storms? What does Raiden have to do with this? :DOGE

Oooops...Master of souls I mean xD
Anyway, Ermac gets a free combo with teleport from a whiffed teleflurry of Balanced, in any variation. Kenshi is not completely comfortable.

Speaking of Raiden ( :p ), displacer is a super counterpick for Balanced. He gets free pressure from normal teleport after whiffed teleflurry, and full combo with exteleport.

Edit: Displacer can actually get a full combo from normal teleport after whiffed TF xD Tight timing though.

Don't ever use b2. Ever.
This. So many times when my friend is near death I run up and do B2 for the swag finish even though I know it's a horrible idea. I've yet to land it doing this and have lost matches attempting it. When I look at this move it's just like... WHY???!!!

Saying it's pointless is hogwash. It's the perfect way to end a match during "Finish Him".

Anything is viable for online play. Enjpy the game the way you like. If you're looking to compete, however, try to stay in the A to S tier. See Derptiles tier list for reference.

Where can I find this? Is it updated? Does it have variations or just characters?

A better example might be how I think Ancestral Kung Jin is cool but wouldnt risk a tournament on him. Id play shaolin instead (if i played Kung Shaolin ofc).

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
Demonic is his best variation. He's not easy to learn, but once you learn what to do - you can auto-pilot through some matchups.

He struggles mightily against cross-ups, so be ready to have your blocking skills and patience tested when they get in.

Balanced can be played relatively well at semi-high level play. A guy named HighguyxReiko convinced me of this.

If we're talking tournament-level play though, there's pretty much always a better choice (though Pig's performance with Balanced shouldn't be ignored).

In his current state, and with the exception of 3 or 4 matchups, Balanced simply has not a place in this game.
You have to upplay a lot to win in general, and that's the definition of bottom tier.

I use him a lot, he is fun, and you will have success as long as the opponent is not very knowledgeable of the matchup.
But when you face a good player that knows which are his numerous weaknesses...good luck.

He forces you to play extremely well and almost read the opponent's mind to win. This can be fun and that's why I like it, but if you are thinking about competitive play...don't even think about him.

If you feel the need to compete, just pick a good character, so the limitations will be in your hands, and not in the character's tools. Using low tier characters, it's only a matter of time that you get frustrated while competing.
For some reason you like bad characters? Then I recommend you only playing casual games, it's much better.

Pig did great with Balanced in esl season 1, getting a fantastic third place in finals. But let's be realistic, it was season 1. People had little or no knowledge of the matchup. I doubt a Balanced player could get that far now, even making top 8 a single week in esl just using him is extremely hard now. Some people, including me, tried it, and myself gave up xD To compete, you need competitive characters.

tl;dr play Possessed if you don't want to get raped as Kenshi in a tournament setting.
Play the broke S tier characters if you want to be actually competitive.
