What's new

2 new characters leaked

Honestly, I think guests in KI make more sense than in MK. MK has a much bigger roster than KI, and that's why so many people are upset when a guest makes it in over their favorite character. In KI, pretty much everyone who was in the original games has made it in already or is going to eventually. All that's left in terms of characters is original concepts and guests.

KI has more support than any NRS game ever will get.
Well, MKX has $100,000 tournaments, and got a complete netcode rewrite less than a year into the game's life -- I don't think there's any question about NRS' level of support!

I think it's more accurate to say that KI was released only with a handful of characters/content and has been built up into a complete game since 2013.

All too easy...
Awesome, I might have to check that out. I am going to wait and see what comes with S3 ultra first though, the first 2 seasons ultra came with the classic KI games, so maybe they will bundle a battletoads game with S3 Ultra to promote Rash some more XD

I also wouldn't hold my breathe for a RAAM stage, it's been confirmed we are only getting 3 new stages in Season 3 and we have seen them all (Kim Wu's, Tusk's, and Arbiter's) :/
Aww shit, I only saw Arbiter's Sanghelios stage so I assumed all guests would get one, oh well. Also Rare Replay does come with KI Gold

Eh... saying they got a "complete rewrite" less than a year into the game's life really just reflects NRS doing what they should to fix their problems. If it came more than a year out, it would seem unnecessary and an afterthought.

Not to mention the fact that MKX needed a rewrite. It's not like KI nailed netcode back in 2013 or other games haven't had stability as a launch option or anything. :coffee:

Just like you could say KI should have had additional characters/content (and I suppose MK needed $100,000 tournaments as well, right? :))

Also how many AAA games of any type can you name that needed a complete netcode rewrite, and got it within a year?

The comments about NRSgame support are old/tired. NRS has the best support of any fighting game currently available.

Come on Crimson, I know you can do better than that. MKX needed a serious amount of balancing and netcode overhaul at launch. They don't need to support tournaments, but they can if they want. That really wasn't the point of my post, now was it?

But if we're going to get into a pissing contest, we could just point out that IG and MS have announced two more years of KI World Cup. This will likely lead to guaranteed inclusion and support at Majors for ranking/placement purposes as well as two additional checks for $30,000 minimum for those individual tournaments if history has taught us anything. MKX's future... well, history has taught us we can expect the community to put forth the bulk of the effort after a two year cycle to get it included and hyped up.

Is that if you buy KI Gold from the store? I bought the Complete Edition of KI in December which netted me the current game and both of the classic KI games so I don't think I got rare replay with it.

And KI needed a several more characters and a good deal more content at launch. Yet when KI adds additional characters, it's "KI has better support than any NRS game will get".. But when MK revamps the netcode, it's "Well they shouldn't get credit for supporting the game, it should have been there anyway".

Do you see the double standard?

I think he meant that buying the Rare Replay gives you some KI Gold currency for funsies as part of the purchase.

Not really. Killer Instinct was always intended to be a multi-season, free-to-play base game. We knew that each year would yield new content and that the only pricing model that came close to a "full-price game" would include the content coming down the pipe. Microsoft and Iron Galaxy (Double Helix at the start) never lied or mislead anyone about this.

NRS claimed we'd get a full game and then gave us the upgraded, fixed edition a year later. Double standards would only apply if we only got season 1, paid $60 for season 1 and were only led to believe we'd get season 1.

But no one's saying that KI somehow misled the public -- only that adding characters over time isn't some unusual form of support; it's what the game always needed to become a 'complete' and fully fleshed-out fighting game title.

Likewise, NRS' support of MKX has been stellar and is above and beyond -- what they've done for the community since the game's release has been awesome and doesn't have any parallel yet in a current fighting game.

People using additional characters as a reason to trash NRS' support of the game, doesn't make sense to me.

Fair enough. Before continuing, I would like stated that I did not post that original comment about NRS's support vs. IG's support, though. The comment I did make about NRS learning from KI was more regarding things that we already discussed, like netcode stability. And though it's subjective, I think IG does a much better job balancing their game, but this is subjective and we don't need to waste time arguing that unless we just really wanted to. :D

My original response was mainly coming from a point of what NRS and any company should do naturally in the first year of a game's lifespan. They should be investing pot bonuses and marketing to build hype and raise awareness. They should be fixing the things that were utterly laughable at launch. They have done these things that they should be doing. If they were still adding content or did a KP3 or footed even a $50,000 pot bonus late into this year or next year, or even after the inevitable announcement of their next game, then that would be cause for praise. But throwing in big within the first year of a game's life doesn't really seem laudable.

KI Gold was the name of the N64 release of KI2 IIRC, but I already have that game as it was included with the Complete Edition of KI2013.

Sugarwatermixlegit

Bruce Campbell 4 MK!!!
I suppose I simply don't understand what that has to do with making an interesting fighting game character, but I'll admit I'm a little narrow minded on the subject lol. I won't force the issue any more, as you probably know more about the characters than I do, and I'll just stick with what you were saying and say to each their own.
A nice, respectful person on TYM who respects my opinion? WHAT IS THIS!?

Where the hell is Reiko's wheel kick
MKX gets guests characters-
BROOO WHAT IS THIS GARBAGE OH MY GOSH WASTE OF A SPACE REALLY LEATHERFACE? DUDE HE ISNT EVEN POPULAR (despite the fact he started the whole "movie killer with a mask" gimmick and was around before Jason, Freddy so on) COME ON WHAT IS THIS
KI gets guest characters-
AWWWWHHHH YEA GET HYPE BOYS ITS GOING DOWN LETS GO NEW MAIN
I know KI is a platform and all but this still made me giggle. Not hating though, get hype for who you want to get hype for.
Yeah, I never understood the hate here in MK for guest characters.
There's a sickness which started spreading around 2012, (MK9 awesomeness's fault) which made ppl want every game that has the words "mortal kombat" in it's title, to have EVERY character from the entire storyline and 24 year history available in the character select screen. They will never play them... but they demand to feel their presence.
USF4 may had a part to play too, in that it had many fighters from different SF eras just sitting there, that made our co-forumers jealous

So nowadays they think MKX is pokemon, gotta have em all.
