Bottom line is you come in here saying day 2 smoke meta is enough and we shouldn't bother trying to find anything new

B1 might be my biggest gripe about this character too. Sometimes, I can do the B1 up close on a crouching male and it will combo into Bomb.

Other times it simply just doesn't work. Kinda wish it was just consistent but I imagine it has all to do with the speed of SB moreso than B2.

I thought KP2 was the last patch though. I do hope they will still hotfix him because the whiffing is just brutal.

Yeah B21 seems to be the ultimate punish string. If they jump? Second hit will AA them. Projectiles? Punished. So I don't think it having a gap and it being punishable up close on hit is that troublesome.

I will give Smoke this, when he punishes, he punishes hard. Putting the living fear of God into my opponents by seeing them block full screen is legit. If only he had an easier time against Alien.

So aside from B3D4U4 and sweep is there any other method to set this up? HKD maybe like NJK?

What's a good way when you end a combo to time a meaty? Seems a lot of people delay wakeup to avoid the B1 and B3 timings.

But b1 is slow and really risky against even a shitty armored wake up , meterless opponent should be safe. def good knowledge tho I'm sure there's at least a few MU's that I'll work well on

That's not what ANYONE is saying at all.

Man I was trying to be nice and patient with you but now I'm starting to not give a fuck anymore.

What you are proposing is garbage. NO ONE WITH A BRAIN is going to use ex invisibility, then do ex sb. What sense does that make? That's 2 bars gone, 3 if you started a combo with ex tele. He's already meter dependant in a game that is based heavily on meter, so as the days go one and we progress more with the character, we are NOT going to spend all the meter just do get the same situation we get now for a bar/meterless. Why can't you understand that?

Yes, it's only day 2. But everything I'm preaching about day 2 smoke is far more superior to what you're preaching.

Basically, I make sense. You don't.

Delay your B1/3 on a read.

@xKhaoTik is certainly correct here, it's just not optimal to use two bars like that.

Either use one or the other IMO. Not both.

Should I like, count to one in my head or something? I seem to just end up whiffing as they stay on the ground, even when I pause for a bit. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, I have lost more games than I want to on mistimed meaties.

My thoughts:

Certainly a character that seems easy enough at first, but really difficult to master. It's not so much his combo potential but sometimes getting in can be excruciatingly painful. Not having any legit mids aside from F4 (which, seems to not be a true mid?) hurts him. I was playing a Tarkatan Alien today and all he had to do was just d1 my B3 (seems to trade pretty often against pokes) and my grab, and my OH option in B2 off of 21xxphase. Maybe I'm clearly not getting the timing right, but other characters seem to just kinda shrug off his normals and range. Smoke ball being really slow doesn't help. Meter is pretty much going to be used for hit confirms with EX Tele, EX Phase for wakeups and EX Bomb for confirms and blockstrings.

Playing against characters who have great footsies, or can keep you out makes it difficult as well. I personally think Invis is just a bill and while not terrible, is used sparingly and certainly not even in every match. Sometimes you need the damage and/or the vortex to keep pressure. Plus, to use the bar for EX Invis just seems to be a waste especially given how important meter is to this character and EX Phase.

His d3 just sucks, D1 isn't too bad though. T-Rex arms and a ton of highs off of standing 1, 2, F1 is not fun, given those are his fastest moves. Seems you can just kinda duck against Smoke unless you use NJP which has it's own risks.

He's not terrible, but he kinda is underwhelming at first and maybe once I play a ton of games with him aside from a few days worth my opinion might change, but he might be the weakest of the four right now. Anything he does, Scorpion can kinda do better tbh.

Has anyone figured out if EX Trident is even worth anything useful? It just seems to provide a bit of extra damage and starts up faster.
Yes they really need to fix his f4 anyone with a decent poke can just interrupt him every time and f4 has no priority it should low crush but it doesn't. And strings like b21 wiff they really need to that. and fix his f4 please i can deal with a slow smoke bomb, no armor, gaps in every string but this character not having a legit mid is gonna hurt him the most in my opinion

You might be able to whiff a normal to help time it correctly. Maybe knock them down, whiff a F1 then press B1 for example. It depends because they can vary their getup time, it's tricky for sure. Sometimes it's better to just pressure them on wakeup, or literally just stand their then throw them.

I'll try some different timings on normals like F1 or d1 and tell you what happens tomorrow. Thanks for your input.

Think we played earlier, GG and yes I certainly do agree. He definitely needs that to be a true mid, especially with all of his current cons.
