That was completely unnecessary. lol
I found a 52% combo with Sonya covert ops 2 barsAfter playing with Sonya... I gotta say, I fell in love. Everything about this character screams swaggy. I love the play style of covert ops, the fact you can easily combo out of her xray and ex parry, her 50/50s and military stance pressure. She has a lot of tools to help deal with the cast in the game in this variation alone, and doesn't need to spend meter to do her damage midscreen or in the corner, which let's you use it for breakers or wakeup armor.
I want to get into demo and drone variations to see what kind of dirt I can dig up....I always swear by Liu, but so far I think I found a new main in this game.
54*I found a 52% combo with Sonya covert ops 2 bars
Digging special forces so far, as others have mentioned the b1, b3 shenanigans have been great. Still need to work on the mind game for getting the parry out; seems like she should be able to cripple any kind of rushdown with a few well-timed parries.
Going to spend some time with demolotion today, the biggest concern I have there(and with Special Forces) is combo potential. Going to be tough goings without that cartwheel(any one else still inputting her old cartwheel from mk9?)
Def feeling like the one so far.
The parry is great for characters like Jacqui high tech or complete rush down characters. Do you have a video for this? I would like to see it.
The ex garrote parry 1/3 can be combo'd for above 40% plus two bars, however getting your opponent in a parry might lead to a couple of full punish combos if you whiff, you must be very familiar with the matchup.Idk why everyone thinks Covert Ops Sonya only has 49%- in her combos. We all know she can get god like damage with x-ray. I'm talking about without x-ray. Covert Ops Sonya has High damage with only 2 bars, but if you want to push it and get more, then go for 3 bars. The garrote parry has a lot of damage and can reach 54% and it's very easy to do!!
Agreed. I use the ex parry for characters like Liu Kang or Jacqui high tech really comes in handyThe ex garrote parry 1/3 can be combo'd for above 40% plus two bars, however getting your opponent in a parry might lead to a couple of full punish combos if you whiff, you must be very familiar with the matchup.

And btw it's 50+ percent damage
True, but Sonya doesn't really need meter in CO variationI like to use the ex garrote parry on armored wake ups a lot. Losing a bar and getting punished really makes them think twice about doing it again.
There really isn't a guide for CO, because this variation is very easy to play. In a nutshell, her gameplan is very simple: Do your best to get your opponent in the corner because that's where she really shines.I'm loving me some Sonya at the moment. I just picked her up in the last couple of weeks and want to explore her more in depth. I am playing CO as it is the only variation I am comfortable with.
I don't really know her game plan yet and I am new to (and terrible with) rushdown tactics having always played zoners / anti zoners in fighting games.
At the moment I usually focus on pressuring with b1,4 and b3,3 etc, making people nervous about parry and mixing this up with some zoning. I was hoping to get some tips with her - what should I / shouldn't I be doing etc. Are there any Sonya guides around?
Thanks for your help!
I wouldn't say it's easy to play. Sonya has a lot of holes in her combos. End your BnBs with 21u4 for corner carry. If you get cornered and manage to hit confirm B14 or B332 into Cartwheel, run under it and put them in the corner again. Now that her B332 has been fixed, she can cancel into MS at three parts of that string, kinda like Erron's 21122, so more mind games for her. And obviously, mix things up! Use her MS cancel to stay safe and not be predictable, her 121 is a really good string plus on block, use her dive kick to crush pokes...
Yeah, I think that's basically it. Check the basic guide in the combo thread.
Easy in terms of execution. CO is probably the easiest variation in the whole game. Just get in and mix them up. Of course she has these holes that you're talking about, but some of them are situational. For example, her B14 has a gap that you can armor through, but the gap only exists depending on how far from the opponent she does that string. When she cancels into MS she has gaps as well, but a smart Sonya player would cancel the stance, block your armor and punish you. Her cartwheel beats slow armor as well.I w

What about on tech rolling opponents though? Always test tech on a tech rolling opponentDemolition variation is pretty cool to break wake up armor attacks. Watch the video and see for yourself, comrades!)
Easiest in the game? Parries are not easily executed, it takes time and practise, all her mix ups everything are death penalty punishable. Her damage is moderate at best.Easy in terms of execution. I totally disagree. CO's gameplan and BnBs are easy and she is very beginner friendly, especially if you played her in MK9. There's no mystery in learning how to do her 50/50 game, which doesn't mean necessarily that it's braindead (I disagree with this). Try to play braindead with this variation against experienced players and you'll get blown up pretty easily.Easiest in the game? People like predator, Kung Lao and Kung Jin are easy execution pick up and play characters that are beginner friendly, Sonya in any Variation needs some time, covert ops is the easier variation of her three but overall in the game, definitely not.
