TYM Kommunity Project: An Open Letter to NRS Concerning Netplay

DarksydeDash

You know me as RisingShieldBro online.
I am forced to play only on Saturday because.. I have no idea why. I have an open nat type ad well. There are sometimes where I can get a match (after having to search about an hour. But guess what? I always get the message: "the game session is no longer available." I have never once been able to try orher game modes ourside of player or ranked matches either because the game always desynchronized. I loved injustice and played that game flawlessly online witj great connections; there was no delay at all. So why us mkx nearly unplayable? I have friends near me and far away that have this same problem. Its great tgat you have dlc characters but I cant even learn them, let alone my own mains because the Netcode of MKX is THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD. It is unpredictable, inaccurate, and prevents most players from having the full experience of the game. This is unacceptable and needs to be fixed ASAP. For a next gen game, this is pretty poor beyond words.

Imho there is a world of difference between MKX and SCV, I played it for years even against Americans and it was more than ok, between European it was almost flawless.
I could do just guards online on SCV, on MKX I can't block overhead low strings, or punish anything. Can't compare
Interesting. I must just have godlike Internet then. Cause I don't adjust my timing at all playing offline

Ultimately, there are only 2 ways of dealing with this shit.

1) We understand that, by now, after like 3 games, NRS will keep on selling games with garbage online (among other things), and we stand up, as a community for that to stop. No more piss-poor online. Ever.

EVO being massively streamed, and a marketing place for NRS, it's the right place to be heard loud and clear.

We get them to understand, by any means necessary, what we think about yet another game with input lag, while every other game nowadays in the industry can do better than this shit.

No matter what.

2) We don't want to involve EVO in any of this (understandable), and we wait for another chance to let them know what we think, but this will have a lesser impact overall, with most likely little to no media coverage, and if they wanna bury our petition / questions, it will be easy.

Do they deserve to have yet another chance ?

Do you think they will ultimately step up and offer some great online experience as long as we act like happy little customers, that have been sold 3 games in a row with garbage online ?

The simple fact that MKX sold really well, will consolidate their way of doing things : rush the game without worrying about the online part, since we'll buy anyway, Goro (or insert any character really) being a preorder "gift" you know.

I see a HUGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE care about what NRS will think if we get vocal about this shit ... and I feel sorry for them ... really.

They, instead, should care about THEMSELVES, think about what kind of game they think they are entitled to, after paying for NRS games for years, for being a loyal fan no matter how pitiful the game ultimately is.

They should focus about having a bigger community, and that's only possible nowadays with a stable, functional, flawless online function.

So many people already dropped that game, because online is awful, YET, they prefer to keep quiet instead of getting angry at NRS for dropping the ball YET ANOTHER TIME ... because they fear (?) NRS reaction ...

But "wake up" people : we pay their rent, not the other way around !!!!!

How many more games (3 more ? 5 ?) will it take till we actually do something "impressive" and "massive" instead of handing them a piece of toilet paper ?

And we all know what they will do with it right ?

I have a friend with admittedly [by him] terrible internet. He has 6 down and 1.5 up on wireless, and like you, he has experienced no input delay or any need to adjust his timing either.

I believe it has something to do with location, but... Only NRS knows, and they are busy working on stuff to sell.

Other people like myself, experience input lag so bad [My internet is 60 down, 30 up and wired] that the best game you can get is 8+ frames of input delay in four green bar pings or even versus a close friend who you also know has good internet.

Some people will never know what it's like to RC into block real quick for oki to bait something out, only to have the game still reading your RC 15 frames later and giving you a breaker VS a non launching WU attack, lol.

Or never being able to perform a wake up attack, or tech a grab that you saw coming a mile away and guessed correctly on the tech and still get thrown. Can't anti air even with a decent one. Jip's come out so late you're on the ground before the button registers.

At times I experience dropped inputs in the character select screen, and already know I've lost before the match even starts. These matches will consist of dropped inputs that will cause insanity like you crouch blocking, then going to neutral and executing B2 and getting an D2. Doing a string into a special where one or more of the inputs just magically gets skipped and something like 33~BF4 with Jacqui can come out as 3, F4.

For some people, most I believe from the feedback from players I know on my list. This game is literally broken online, DOES NOT WORK.

Then it's settled...

I hereby nominate fellow Kytinn brethren Zoidberg to lead the battalion!

I guess asking if they plan to release an Online Pack along with the Kombat Pack 2 is still too harsh for a place like EVO ?

I guess we know what to expect now though : more DLC (and don't fool yourself, high chances we get those unfinished characters from story mode, Rain Baraka Sindel etc) and NRS asking for more money !

Can't believe the balls on these guys ...

At least we get to enjoy the REAL MKX experience for a little longer : training mode :(

I ask you this...

Who would you rather help out? The little bitch kid that's throwing a hissy fit b/c he can't go get ice cream or the kid that asks nice and politely to go get some ice cream?

Sure as fuck ain't gonna be the first one.

All running around screaming like an idiot is gonna do is make you look like said idiot.
the better analogy is both kids have bought and paid for their ice cream and both kids have rat shit on their yummy cones, as the restaurant owner do you not rectify both of their situations no matter the attitude? ;)

I think what I hate the most (and I may be completely wrong) is that I feel like they are just blatantly ignoring us. Sure stuff like nerfs and buffs we'll get but I remember feeling really hopeless near the end of MK 9's days and how much support dropped from that when Injustice was up and coming. I HATE that kind of treatment and I feel like NRS will keep on doing it. I wish I had that same mentality when I was younger when I stuck up for even the 3D games and Shaolin Monks because I love Mortal Kombat but now I really am not looking forward to any future installments. I got more hyped for the Ken trailer than I ever have for any of MK X's bs. XD

Sorry if this has turned whiney but I don't post that much thought I just chime in

I'm not going to defend the MK netcode or anything like that but I do honestly feel like a lot of the anger towards it could be misguided. I wouldnt be surprised if the majority of people complaining just have bad internet or are playing someone with bad internet. Not much NRS can do about some parts of the states having internet that makes dial up look good.

Of course this is the redheaded stepchild PC version, however, but still...
Twenty seven total. this was at a semi reasonable hour (for gaming), sometime last week.

If I was a rep for NRS, I'd dip out and hide too. I like Tyler, but he has no capacity to deal with feedback on this level. EVO is a great place to have contrast to the other games
there should be no threats, no interference, nothing extremely rude; but speak up and be heard, they are not listening yet.

As I sit here salting away, using this screenshot, I'm going to do some math. Only with what's given on the screen so take it lightly.
27 people online
33 billion fatalities performed (rounded down to nearest billion)
Let's be generous and say, us 27 players have performed 1000 fatalaties each, all online. this should compensate for the players not online, and that every online match ends in a fatality. /end generosity
That comes to a ratio of 27/33,000,000 (online fatalities)/(offline fatalities) which simplifies to
For every fatality performed online, there are 1,222,222 performed offline.
and can also be seen as
.000082% of Fatalities are enjoyed online.

A bit of a stretch, but I wouldn't be doing this if I was able to grind ranked right now.

No, dude.

I say this... if it is true that the online can not be fixed for whatever reason beyond this point... okay simple, we learn from this and should never do business with this company again. But since I highly doubt this to be the case, given that they should be hiring competent and experienced developers to work on the netcode from the beginning, then this should not be an issue. The reality is, from the get go, all "unforseen" problems should be clearly addressed within their studio.

The fact of the matter is, if you've got guys like Ed Boon touting such a great online experience and then fail to deliver, then they shouldn't be making games to begin with. It should be that simple but it's not, because ultimately everyone just wants a cut of that paycheck...

I can connect to a game of Dota with 9 other people. There is a console command to check their ping. Most games, the entire game of 10 players sits between 5-50 ping. When there is someone with above 100 ping, they are nearly always playing from a different country. What below 50 ping translates into gameplay terms its ABSOLUTELY NO RECOGNISABLE LAG. I estimate the lag I get on my best ever connection on MKX to be somewhere around 150 ping at best. I estimate about 1 in every 50 people I encounter in Dota to have an internet connection that gives them more than 50 ping naturally, and even then nothing pushing what we see on MKX. So what's the explanation here? By some stroke of bad lack, nearly ALL the MKX players have terrible internet?

People like you are posting about bad net connections, but it's obvious as HELL you have absolutely no experience with online play with any other game and clearly don't have the knowledge or experience to be commenting on this, because otherwise you would know that this is something specific to MKX.

If I have one of the fastest internet speeds in my country, I get 5ms ping to games with a proper netcode (5ms !!!), but playing MKX on a WIRED connection with my friend who lives 5 streets away from me, who is on THE EXACT SAME INTERNET PLAN and is also wired up, why is it that when we play MKX together, just a 2 player game, it's so unplayably laggy that he refuses to play anything but local any more?

This "people need to fix their internet connection" is the most dated mentality. If you are one of the people saying this you need to go back and do your homework. It's 2015. Internet speeds are good. These old school arcade gamers stuck in the 90's, learn to progress with technology if you gunna speak on it friends.

Also, "wireless" doesn't mean shit, I gotta stop reading shit like this from morons like Pig of The Hut who swear the netcode is fine and just want to chalk it up to random they shit they have ZERO knowledge over, it's too much. Sure, theres a chance that people on wireless are doing dumb shit like trying to play MKX off their phone wi-fi or some shit, but there is nothing that makes wireless any worse inherently than wired. If you have a slow wireless speeds you have slow internet. If you have fast wireless, you have fast internet. If your wireless drops out all the time, you have unstable internet. If your wireless doesn't drop out, it is a stable connection. I can play absolutely any other game and still get <10ms on my wireless connection consistently and have never once dropped out or lagged on my end.

Not going to EVO, still against it lol.

Edit: If someone manages to get an interview with an NRS employee that would be the best thing to do. You could call Kotaku and everything lol.
Yeah good luck even getting them to even wave at the camera for selfie, let alone sit down for an interview dedicated to the issue that they've been dodging by the last 5 years, initiated by someone with absolutely no standing in the gaming media industry (by that I mean absolutely anybody from this site)

Tbh its a lose lose. Nothing we do at this point will make them do anything, the reason I dont support making a scene at EVO is we risk not being invited back and NRS probably will just ignore us again anyway.

Why would this get us barred from Evo while the history of boo'ing NRS games has absolutely no impact?

BTW I'm not saying it's a flawless way, it stands the best chance of getting results however, compared to "waiting for that evanescent interview" which stands absolutely zero percent chance of ever happening or changing anything. Tried that approach for the last 5 years. Time to make waves.
