Batman FINAL Matchup Chart

Tell me, do you bleed?
Alright, I have learned a bit more about the Grundy match up. If you never let Grundy approach you, then you can beat him. If he gets to you once, you probably lost that round, unless you guess right every single time with the tick throws. 6-4 seems OK.

Now, Scorpion: why on earth is the Scorpion match up 6-4 in Batman's favor? I mean, he may be punishable, but it's always a coin flip with him, while he can succesfully block Batman the whole time. He has control of the air, also, and the unblockable fire just in case. Somebody explain to me why Scorpion vs Batman is 6-4 in Batman's favor. And yes, I'm ultra salty because I've lost more than I've won against Scorpion.

What's killing you in this match up?

You gotta let scorpion hang himself. If you're just going HAM and running into his 50/50s and wake up attacks, yeah you're gonna have a bad time. But if you're playing the match up as to shutdown his options and make it to where he has to take risks to get in and do damage..he's gonna have a long day. Batman out damages scorpion as well by a long shot. And while bats may not have as good of an vortex on knock down as scorpion has..his restand vortex with MB grapple is easily just as dirty and nets more damage. (ambiguous cross up j2 setups after MG grapple).

Scorpion controls the air - true, just don't jump around. Stay out of the air vs scorpion and you will be amazed at how far this gets you. Chip damage is also nothing in this game, so scorpion can j3 cross up all day if he wants, I am just going to block and wait for him to autopilot a teleport after a j3 trying to catch me sleeping and punish.

Again, just let him hang himself, find your opening, take your damage and don't let off of him. But remember to work your life lead. The reason I see people still losing this MU is not working the life lead and just going in all YOLO pressure batman time when it's not necessary.

If you're shutting down his approach, and punishing the risks he takes, there is really no reason as to why bats should lose this match up on paper. Now, you do need to watch out for when you get knocked down. He DOES have some really decent HKD ambiguous cross up setups that can take advantage of bat's shitty wake up options, but again, it's not too difficult to keep your self out of this situation.

A few of my keys to how I approach this match-up:

-Space yourself to compete in the footsie war with bats while being out of range of his good normals & his 50/50.

-Take your damage and get out: I opt to not go for 50/50 setups as much as other match ups and go for max damage. I take my 35-40 percent, end combos in b23 to space them out. And make them work to get in again.

-Stay out of the air: Frustrate them by being a little lamer than they would expect. Make them work for damage rather than getting free dmg via winning air-to-air contests. This also opens them up to trip guards since you're actively scouting their jumps rather than being the person jumping around like crazy.

-Manage risk/reward: Always be cognizant of the risks scorpion has to take to get damage of Bruce and adapt your play to that. Always put him in the situation to take more risk than you, especially if it's to sway a situation into his favor. Keep your shenanigans to a minimum, and don't make aerial presses on him on wake up, there is no need.

-Play lame and play for damage rather than setups and vortex as much as possible--this plays into meter management too. I save meter for MB grapple most of the time. As long as I am on grey bar, I will use upgrapple and just stick with damage instead of setups. I will usually migrate to the straight grapple and go for the j2 vortex once we're both on red bar, or if I am down on life by a significant amount.

-Up-play Scorpion - When all else fails, make sure you up play the character to your opponent. Tell him how much his character deserved his nerfs, and is in fact, just fine after being patched. This incites a rage in the scorpion player unlike any other. They will become incapable of carrying out the match, and will proceed to put down his stick to ask you questions like 'If He was so good, why didn't PL or anyone else win with him at CEO?" and things like that. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behavior and it will pass, in time.

It's funny, this is pretty much how I play against Scorpion in MKX as well. Space him out, trip guard, try to bait teleports, stay on the ground, etc.
