Let's talk: MKX on PC

I don't think so. Unless they get rid off HVS.
I honestly wonder. I've seen people blame High Voltage for a lot of things with this port, and not all of them have actually been their fault.

I'm confident the PC version is a port of the Xbox One version, and it's not native 1080p. I figure that might have something to do with it. I could be wrong though.

Regardless, after only a few days, I put the game at 1600x900, and it improved things so much. Resolution isn't everything.

You're right, for example the "walk away" animations on the PC version are inconsistent but it was saw first in the PS4 version to cite an obvious one. There are more bugs or glitches that come from NRS themselves that are ported directly by HVS, but there are also optimization issues that you don't see in PS4 or Xbox1 and that is HVS responsibility.

Agreed. Things like the walk away animations and even the net code is actually from the NetherRealm end. Specific PC optimization is HVS'.

What I'm curious about though, is how many people who say the game is "broken" are trying to run it at 1080p, with all the options on, when they meet or just surpass the minimum requirements for the game.

Don't mistake me, I'm not trying to say there aren't issues with the port, and that there aren't people who've barely been able to get the game to play, that's obviously been a thing.

But the more I read different complaints and rants from people on several sites, the more it seems many (not all) are trying to do more than they're actually able.

Obviously if you meet the recommended requirements, you should be able to run the game at 1080p with most to all of the extras on. If you're just at the minimum or a bit above that, you likely won't be able to. That's not bad optimization, that's PC gaming and has been for the 20 years I've been doing it.

That's why PC's have so many graphic option settings, to tweak things to try and make it work the best for performance and quality since there's no one platform to optimize for.

So basically, I'm curious as to how many people are making things worse for themselves by simply being too stubborn. For me, I get horrible frame rates at 1080p, and my system specs are roughly mid-road for the game. I dropped it down to 1600x900 as GeForce Experience recommended, and with all the extras on, it plays great. Got a little worse with the Jason patch, improved with the Tanya patch, and is even better now with the Predator patch.

So how many people are in my situation but flat out refuse to drop that resolution or whatever, because they "shouldn't have to."

Obviously if they can optimize it better so more people can run it at 1080p, that would be great. Here's hoping.

FYI I knocked everything down to the worst possible in-game options (haven't looked at any ini hacks) at 720p and it still ran like crap on my PC which easily met the minimum specs.

Today I was actually going to try and request a refund through Steam considering I haven't been able to play the game properly since launch (the 2 hours / 2 weeks thing isn't a set limit). And then I remembered that I didn't actually buy it via Steam itself so I'm completely SOL.

I just feel lucky that I didn't end up dropping money on the Hori FC4 I've been eyeing up for a while.

well, I gave up and ran the game at 900p. Plays as smooth as butter. It's weird that even at Medium settings it looks a tad bit better than the console counterparts. And when you're memorizing to nail that combo, you won't give a shit about resolution.

game is very cpu hungry, graphics dont matter

Sorry to read this man, and yeah, if you ever think of an option to pursue for a refund, I'd go for it.

Since you bought it elsewhere though, basically all you can do is a) Hope they patch it and optimize it better so it'll run on your system, and or stop supporting WBIE products.

The only other thing I can think of, since I don't know your system specs, is to upgrade one or two pieces of your hardware, but of course that may not bring a solution and it's a gamble.

Yeah. Typically, PC does look better than consoles simply because the hardware is usually better. Typically, not always, and I'm not trying to start any PC Master race stuff as I don't buy into that.

If one day I can run the game solid at 1080p, of course I will, but until then 1600x900 looks fantastic to me. Heck, it's a higher resolution than I played most of my Mortal Kombat (2011) career for. I played that at 720p on my Xbox 360, and then on my PlayStation Vita in teeny-weeny-eyestraino-vision, and both were also great.

Nice. Points 1, 3, and 4 I sent to them in Bug Reports :). Not sure if that did anything, of course.

How's the netcode? PSN and Steam play is night and day.
I've found it to be very mixed, just like any other NRS game.

If I'm playing friends, who live in the same general city, it's very good (not offline, but good).

Others, less good.

Some others, really less good.

I've said this many times before, and I'll say it again, if NRS makes the game, I expect it's online to be poor as a standard. If it turns out it's not, I'm pleasantly surprised.

It's just that playing the same person yields different results based off which platform I'm playing on.
