I think Kano is a character that visibly shows if the opponent is getting outplayed and people don't like that, so they're blowing him up to be better than what he is. He still has major flaws/bugs in his design and just because there are players still using him doesn't mean that should be overlooked. I'm going to a tourney today and I'm still gonna use Kano but I'm facing Tanya, raidens, erron blacks and scorpions too. I got my work cut out for me

People are giving too much credit to characters when they should be crediting the players, Jeremiah beat people with Sheeva, does that mean that she was fine?
I also really really agree with this sentiment. Theres a lot lot more to this game then what's on paper. It's person vs person, just like any fighting game.

Except that's a stupid argument because Kano is not the worst character in MKX.

That's not the argument here, the point was that characters are fine because top players can win with them, by that logic Sheeva is fine, and Green Arrow was underrated.
If characters are viable then they are fine by all technicalities or meanings of fine. If a character gets beat 7-3 at least by the majority of the cast then there's a problem but otherwise most of the time the character is still viable and can still win matches if you outplay the other person (which doesn't just mean the player is good, they still need a character that can do stuff). A character being fine because people can win with them doesn't make Green Arrow underrated, noone said he was an unviable character they just said he was low tier which he was when you compared his tools to everyone elses. Green Arrow at least wasn't entirely the problem, although he was bad in comparison, it was that the top tier were too top tier for him to contend with but in MKX that isn't the case with Kano because he can contend with the top tiers. Point is it's not like he was completely unviable or he wouldn't have won anything. Yes he could've used buffs but Chris G proved it was possible to win with him. Jeremiah beating people with Sheeva is just Jeremiah beating people with Sheeva but did he win anything with her? No. So Sheeva is an example of an unviable character because on top of being the worst character in the game (that's the important part here) noone could prove it was possible to win with her or people just weren't willing to lol. Kano is viable, is currently sitting in winners top 32 and besides requiring bug fixes doesn't seem to be as bad as some people have made him out to be. And if you're insinuating he's as bad as Green Arrow and Sheeva then you need to stop...

To piggyback off of Youph's post, I don't think Kano, in any variation, is unviable. He has a very strong AA game (in Kommando and Cybernetic), Kommando has great grabs (and the ability to choose which direction he can throw you, which is sexy as fuck imo). Cybernetik zoning is actually a pretty decent tool, even if you can't do it the whole match, and Kutthroat has a good amount of speed and offense.

But he needs fixes on a lot of those wonky technical oversights (like Youph was saying). And if I'm gonna be honest, a few buffs to each variation to compete with the very dominant top tiers. Just small stuff that plays into what each variations lacks/wants to accomplish

Hello mates

I have finally found a main in Kano after trying out quite a few characters, I just find him fun to play as using Cyber and Commando.

Anyways not sure this has been posted but I was messing around with Kano's F4 after watching Coach Steve using it to hop over Erron Blacks bowling ball sand move. Reminded me of Dhalsim, how he could go around projectiles with a slide or a mummy. So I tested it out and it seems to work on projectiles that are visually on the ground (Ferra Vicious' low projectile, EB's bowling ball, Kung Lao's low hat). It hops over D'vorahs swarm (maybe could stuff a run attempt - not tested),F4 does not work against Liu Kangs low fireball or Mileenas low sai. Doesn't work against EB's slide (just gets clipped, was worth a try though). Works against Goro's teleport as long as they aren't using it to go in front of you, gets caught in his ground pound(better of using a ball or air ball). Works against Jax's ground pound (if you want to keep distance from him, otherwise use ball), F4 also hops past Scorps low minion or his hellfire.

This is all I have found with it so far, I just wish it could have hopped over low sai and low fireball, but hey its a fun little tool to have

Update- F4 can hop over Mileena's roll, however its more anticipation than reaction and it seems to work only at a certain distance, better off with block and punish

F4 GOES OVER LOW HAT?! Holy shit that's awesome!

Definitely one of my favourite normals.

You can F4 Tanya out of her pole stance and hop over the low option from the pole. No luck from lows that have small explosions like takedas kunai or Cassie's air strike

I found an anti air in standing 4, similar to ryu's standing roundhouse. Nice option against a far jump in, the kick does 7% and they fly back to the other side of the screen. Can combo into air ball or knife in cybernetic (15%for up ball 12% for knife)
Has a better priority than regular up ball vs sub zeros jump in 3.

It's another option even though we got d2, b1, njp, up ball, air ball, ji1, ji3, ji4, 1. But anything is better than that db3!!

Also has anyone been using standing 4 on the ground? It's plus 2 on block, I think I saw Decay use it after a blocked string, may be good for traps as it does look like a punishable move although it isn't

I've played with just using Standing 4. The frame data makes it look like a really solid poke. Against I just had range issues with it in the middle of pressure or whatever, could be a solid neutral tool.

Just had a little mess around with it

The knockback the opponent gets on hit from it is quite far, the move can be cancelled into special, or could f4(from close hit),or a RC.

On block it gives a good amount of push back but not as much on hit, blocked from close gives the perfect spacing for a d4.

By the looks of it midscreen its more of a spacing tool hit or block (if you don't want them right next to you), but it is a high move.

Looks more like a pressure tool in the corner as on hit the opponent just stumbles back on the spot. On block it acts similar to mid screen

Doesn't really fit into my pressure right now is all though. Especially since it's just a high like everything else I have other then B312 string. So really really limits how useful it's gonna be by itself IMO. You could use it like I use standing 2. Since it's +2 on block it's really good to D4 afterwards, since it essentially makes it 6 frames in a way because of the +2. But Standing2 is WAY more plus on hit then standing4, though 4 may be harder to low profile. 2 is really easy to get under.

You're definitely right with the standing 2, its 2 frames faster and if they duck you stand a better chance with the fewer recovery frames and the option to do the kick afterwards

Nice mixup with a throw/low after a blocked standing 2 as well

Anti air it even works better from far jump ins than standing 4

Thanks for the tip, I really need to add this into my play

Not sure if this had been looked into or not but I might have a midscreen wakeup reversal, it's tight on timing though. Looks like a crossup if blocked lol.

2F4, dash, instant air Kano Ball. You can pretty much mash the dash so you get it as quick as possible then instant air Kano Ball them. If you do it right their wakeup should come out on the other side and depending on the wakeup sometimes you avoid it sometimes you get hit by it or if they're doing an ex wakeup sometimes they'll just block the Kano Ball which could be a problem but I haven't looked that much into it yet.

I like this idea, so far it has avoided or stuffed out most wakeup attacks for me apart from kung lao's ex spin (surprise!), scorpions ex tele was getting hit by the low kick from it, ermacs ex tele absorbs a hit then as Kano is spinning in the air similar to a blocked ball recovery, ermac goes under and does the rest of the pew pew hits of the ex tele facing the wrong way. Takeda's ex tele gets beat.

If blocked a free punish for them

So if you think they are gonna block low, I delayed the air ball so that it whiffs then you can MB for the throw

BTW I was doing the air ball off a neutral jump and won't work vs stand block

When I did the air ball as jump forward then air ball, the MB grab will work on a stand block

Overall a nice option against reversal happy users and I hope I can finally use Kano's ballin brutality from this

I never really fought a decent cyber Kano. So does anyone on XB1 want to play? (I live on the east coast)

If the connection is decent I'd be down. GTs under my picture, feel free to add me and we'll play sometime.

So, I'm going to actually try to get good at option selects(In practice). Problem is, almost 100% of the time it never works. I either throw out the laser/slice/ball on block, or I don't get them on hit. For example I'm doing B12xxdb1EX, which on the one time I got it to work came out as B121 on block. But most of the time it does everything backwards.

Short story even shorter, how do I option select properly with Kano?
