What's new

Let's talk: MKX on PC

Second Saint

A man with too many names.
What I did is I made sure that both back kicks are tied to other buttons first (thus unbinding "back" fuction from num pad 6) then mapped what I wanted.
The game still won't allow me to use gray plus and the like those. It's a bummer because I used to use it for throw.
You're a life saver. I might be able to get my only kinda bad execution back.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
For what its worth I have never had the characters doing their walk away actions on PC since I installed either. I have yet to see Cassie give anyone the finger at all.

NetherRealm Studios didn't develop the PC version. They developed the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version for Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. WBIE contracted High Voltage software to port the game to PC.

So does NRS care? The answer is sort of :p.
I know they didn't develop the PC version, but I meant as in shouldn't they care for their brand, their franchise, in total, despite what a second studio might have done.

I know it's minor - but I really want this in the PC version. Is it due to the fact that it loads remarkably quicker on PC...or...is it a bug?

I had them on the14th while loading and they were gone once i finished loading so most likely not intended that they are not there anymore. According to someone on the steam forums HVS answered him that they are will be back with the next patch, but didn't include any screenshots.

But that's the thing, and I'm not sure if you guys understand the business practices here, but NetherRealm Studios themselves can't do anything for the PC version at this point since their parent company, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, contracted it out to High Voltage Software.

The only way NetherRealm themselves can do anything to the PC version is if WBIE specifically tasks them to do so, and right now, HVS is still doing the patching and support of the product. In turn, HVS can only do things to the PC version when WBIE says so because WBIE, not NRS, not HVS, owns Mortal Kombat.

That's why when people have contacted HVS directly, they tell them they _must_ go through WBIE Support. WBIE is the primary party that needs to "care."

Oh shit. Thank you for explaining this. I didn't know. This should be explained more in general everywhere. I'll have to continue looking into the business side of things as far as companies go.

It's okay, not everyone gets business stuff right away :).

So yeah, NRS is owned by WBIE. WBIE bought Midway and MK when Midway went bankrupt back in 2009-ish, but kept the main Midway team which re-branded as NRS. WBIE seems to like their business relationship with HVS as they've contracted them to do several ports through the years. The fact that they keep doing so indicates they are pleased with the work HVS does.

WBIE is the big player here, and more to the point, they're the ones that provide the funding and make the business decisions as both publisher and owner for all things MK and NRS.

HVS won't do work for free, WBIE needs to pay them based on the contract they all worked out, and HVS can only touch WBIE's product when they say so since it's WBIE's, not HVS.

Another example is with balance patching. Many people wanted more balance patches for MK9, and it's been hinted NRS always wanted to do so, but WBIE wanted them working on new projects as that's were revenue comes from. Both NRS and HVS need to do what WBIE says, for better or worse, because they're the bosses.

Yeah and just by looking at WB support forum you clearly see they don't give a shit yet.
Sigh.
I disagree, actually. The game's just over a week old and they're releasing regular patches to fix (or at least attempt to fix) things. They pulled the problematic streaming install, which did cause lots of issues for people (not all, but lots).

The support has been good thus far, it's just a shame the product had to release in that state and with that streaming install.

So, I ran MK X on my "GeForce 560 Ti" this week. (which is average video card for this game).
Also I have i7-2600 3.4 MHz and 8k Ram.
The game was skipping intros here and there and I had crappy frame rate jumping around.
Than I installed "GeForce Experience", which optimized my MK X settings for me and after that almost all maps ran at 47-60 frames.
Of course settings was not so high :
-1600x900
-0 detail density
-no shades
-low textures
etc..

BUT the game experience was much better. You can download this program on official website or just google it.

Later I bought GTX 970... nothing to explain, everything run on ultra settings and I am even recording simultaneously.

Conclusion:
So, good video card as I expected is crucial for MK X.
If buying a new card is not the option for you, then try to optimize the game through GeForce experience, for example.

I just got a small update (26.7mb).

I found this on the steam news:
We are posting a new patch that will address the following:
• Fixed graphics corruption on Dead Woods level for AMD video cards
• Fixed inconsistent Koin awards when completing towers
• Fixed Display setting not saving correctly
• Fixed Controller Preset menu to prevent a reset to Custom1 control scheme
• Fixed issues with the display of Steam names in leaderboard entries and in chat rooms

Additionally, the following settings are recommended to assist in optimizing your experience:
• Set your monitor refresh rate to 60 or 59.95 hz.
The game is framelocked at 60hz for an optimal experience.
• Enable Adaptive V-Sync, if your driver supports it.
Even at 59.95, you can have a ‘chasing v-sync’ cascade effect. Adaptive V-Sync mitigates it heavily.
• Run the game in fullscreen mode.

Wow so now I have the Mortal Kombat X splash screen for like 20 seconds before launching the game.
Didnt have that before that tiny patch.

I'll never understand how devs always manage to make it worse when patching.

It's a programming thing in general. A lot of times when you fix something in programming, you break something else unknowingly. That can only be prevented with thorough regression testing. And that doesn't always happen.

Yeah I get that.
But took them what .. four days to release 27mo to fix the 15Go patch full of shit.

Cant even play anymore tho.
Game crash after map loading.

I can't launch the game anymore after the patch. The splash comes up then it gives me an error saying "Please verify the integrity of the MKX game cache." Anyone have a fix?

edit: I found out I can verify on steam (right click the game , click configure)
