I feel like Ryan Hart is a way to bring in Europe/SF fans. But that man is nice, I don't doubt he will do well.

I don't see it this way -- in a day-zero NRS game, somebody like Ryan Hart or Justin Wong with their level of fundamentals actually stands a chance against just about anyone you can put them up against.
The execution and legacy curve for something like SF4 is totally different and can't really be compared.
Ryan is a world class fighting game player, it would be silly for people to sleep on him.
We're all guna be brand new to the game, so it'll be all about who learns the fastest!
You both make great points, but I think they are besides the main point. Ryan Hart being able to pick up the game and its systems in order to compete / possibly win isn't what's in question, it is why was is he in the invitation running to begin with.

It would be like if Capcom announced an SF5 invitation exhibition, and invited Detroitballin, or Pig of the Hut, or [insert top NRS player here]. Sure those guys are good FG players. Sure they could learn the systems and probably compete to a good degree, but wtf?

It seems more like a blatant reach across the FG pool to bring in a "Capcom guy" (I realize RH is a big name in Tekken too, just go with me), more so than a bid to get good competition...at least to me.

This isn't a bad thing, just a strange move IMO.

Sf4 really doesn't have high execution barriers or an extreme legacy curve. the existence of plinking makes 1 frame links, really 2 frame links and most character's bnbs are like short, jab, strong xx special or something like that. i also just really started playing sf4 seriously when ultra came out and ive done just fine. game is really straight forward and easy to jump into. its just the level of competition in that game is absolutely insane given the player base and the overall experience of many of the top players.

SF doesn't have a legacy curve? At the highest level?

All that 'competition' comes from 20 years of guys building up their skills and communities on the franchise, not by magic :(

not an extreme one to the level of other games like tekken or guilty gear accent core. valmaster has only been playing street fighter for 2 years and he qualified for capcom cup and took out justin wong and is one of the best players in europe.
But no one was comparing to Tekken -- compared to the games TYM covers, there is definitely a much bigger legacy curve in high-level play.

You ask anyone who's been playing SF for years & they'll tell you SFIV alone has a huge legacy curve & a high barrier for competition due to it.

PL tyrant Pick up games the fastest out of those 8
Ryan Hart is no slouch when it comes to picking up games fast either

with sf4 i feel its more of the players that make it feel that way more so than the game itself. there just happens to be players in there that have 15+ years of experience in fighting game tournaments, which in any game with that kind of experience you should have the upper hand.

a lot of long time street fighter players like to complain about how scrub-friendly sf4 is so id have to disagree with you there. the existence of fadc gives a lot of things some pretty fucked up risk/reward
