MKX Comic Plot Discussion & Speculation Thread

Going back to the whole Frost discussion I would have loved to know what this series would have been liked had they kept her for Mortal Kombat 2... I mean she was supposed to be "replacing" Sub-Zero in that game because they've always wanted to have a female ice wielder. But they never really stated what changed their minds.

Also, before anyone asks where the hell I got this from, I'll refer you to watch her bio card from Armageddon... which is the longest out of all the characters... even though that's really not that much of a big deal. But she is a favorite of Vogel's so... Who knows what's going to happen to her when that comic comes. But I sort of doubt that she'll die and that's not the fan girl in me speaking. I really don't see her getting killed.

I actually see two different outcomes with that fight. She'll either win and kick Cassie's butt thus having her go through some tough times and making her maybe train with her parents finally to get better. Or Cassie will win and most likely do the fatality on her that we've seen.

But literally it's up in the air with that.

And last but not least, I can see her in X just having completely different ice wielding abilities. But now I'm just fan girling. It's painfully obvious she's my favorite female character.

Nah... ole girl done before she started. Hsu Hao status.

Her shit's just too similar to Sub-zero; same reason I don't think Johnny or Sonya should be in MKX. Keep it fresh, ya'll

I feel like I have to say this in every thread with post-MK4 characters.

I want them to bring these characters back and change them because they have potential to be more, to be better, and to be re-imagined.

Saying you can't have two ice ninjas who play completely different is like saying you can't have two Shaolin monks who are re-incarnations of an old warrior and have them be different.

If Liu Kang and Kung Lao can be made to have entirely different move sets and abilities despite having the same background and upbringing, Frost can be made different in gameplay from Subzero.

Same can be said about Johnny and Sonya.

Absolutely true. I was thinking this could be a good time to have Dark Raiden as a separate character, with completely different movesets/variations. NRS designed quite a range of electricity/lightning/storm moves for Injustice, so it's not like the two Raidens can't play completely differently. Hell, a lot of official MK images of Raiden have him holding a staff. That could be an interesting addition for him as well.

Seriously, people are so un-imaginative when it comes to similar characters.

Superman and Zod literally have the exact same powers and NRS managed to come up with ways to make them entirely different. Those aren't even their characters, with Frost they can do and say whatever they want and bullshit her some ridiculous abilities we've never see or expected from her because they can actually determine the canon.

I mean, fuck, they already basically made a girl Sub-Zero with a different move set in 2D.

I'm going to be honest, I have a feeling we'll see Dark Raiden again in this game.

Part of me kind of wants to believe Raiden might be the "unexpected" big bad in MKX.

^Agreed.

We can easily have characters who share the same ability and use them completely different. I mean, there are a number of different ways to use ice in combat rather than just what Sub-Zero has been doing all this time. (I'm just using these two as an example)

Not to mention, you have other stuff like snow and mist to be used. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be ice.

Look at all the characters that we have that uses fire in different ways. I don't get why we can't have two characters that possess the same ability in one game when we've had that all throughout the series.

I know, no one else lists him as a possible suspect but I really feel like he could be it.

Maybe that series of extreeeeme fuck ups, and the fact that the Elder Gods straight up told him "lol no" when he went to them for help, which made him leave when Sindel came in and slaughtered his warriors, which lead to Liu Kang freaking out and getting himself toasted, put him back into that fucked up state that didn't go fully realized previously.

Dude has already shown the ability to snap and go evil, or at least morally grey if it suits his goals.

Maybe Subzero told him to "fear their powers" because Raiden started tapping into some dark shit.

History could be repeating itself, but this time there is no Armageddon to stop Raiden from completely switching sides.

this sounds really interesting and I kinda hope it goes this way. and maybe liu kang and kung lao become earthrealms protectors after defeating dark raiden.
then the storm around their final battle clears and the sun shines all optimistic like.

Just in case anybody misunderstood me earlier in the Frost issue, I'm not against her returning AT ALL.
I've said it before but I am also in complete agreement with @Pterodactyl in this matter. I WANT MK4/DA/Deception characters, especially Reiko, Mavado, Havik and Hotaru. Unfortunately, they are not the most popular MK characters out there.

I'm totally pro-Frost, I think her design is cool and I liked her in DA; I would be hyped if they revealed almost ANY character from MK4 onwards (especially from DA/Deception, because I think they are the ones with the slimmer chances), and Frost is one of them.
My previous posts weren't, in any means, against Frost, it was against "No Sub-Zero".

If they would bring back Kano why not Reiko who's more cooler? Plus these characters will never become popular if they don't get the exposure they need. I hope 3d characters aren't left out forever.

I really hope the dont kill off all of the 3D Era Character some do have potential especially when they get a work over.
I believe this is the general consensus within the MK community. I'm glad that fans are speaking out like this, I think it allows them to see that people actually do want to see the 3D characters again. Gives me hope that we'll see at least a few of them.

I'd be down for another Armageddon/Trilogy as long as they:

1.) Take as much time as possible to create the damn game. If it takes three years, then so be it.
2.) Quit teasing fans and just keep busy working.
3.) Release 1-3 game play trailers that's like five-ten minutes long, showcasing the essentials but not too much to where it starts spoiling major stuff.
4.) Don't end up like Midway.

I always liked the idea of Raiden going bad...really, I just kind of want to seen him go back to his MK1 personality.

Raiden, MK1 Ending...

"Raiden's victory comes as no surprise to him. He was never impressed by Shang Tsung's inferior sorcery, Goro's brute force, or the challenge of the other contestants. He quickly becomes bored with his mortal competition and soon invites other Gods to participate in the contest. The Ensuing battles rage on for years. And the wars result in our world's final destruction. Have a Nice Day."

It doesn't have to be exact, but Raiden could become corrupted (Dark Raiden), and then grow bored of humanity. In his madness, he could seek the destruction of the Human race and any gods who comes to their (our) aid, and that would be a pretty intense bad guy right there.

I could see Raiden being "the big bad," just as much as I could see Liu Kang, or Shinnok, or anyone else. But I think I'd be most surprised if it were Raiden.

Do you know what he has to do to get his old powers back?

It's not a question of what he has to do, as back in the first game Raiden wasn't positioned as Earth's protector, and he was just a god who did as he pleased. I don't want or need him to go back to that, I just want him to not hold back or be otherwise depowered. Since MK2 Raiden has been subject to "the rules" when he is put into a combat scenario, and I really just want to see him let loose.

In MK4 it was alluded to that Raiden and Shinnok fought once on Earth before and almost destroyed the planet. I want that Raiden back! The one who fights with reckless abandon; who wants to protect earth, but cares nothing for it's inhabitance, and will take Earth to the brink of destruction just to "protect" it. Of course that Raiden would/could never be the hero...at least from humanity's perspective, and also it may be hard to make him the "big bad" as Raiden never wanted to take over the realm, but he would be a great obstacle for the good guys, and bad guys, to over come if they wanted to save / take over Earth from an outside threat.

Since John Tobias' earliest MK notes and doodles, Raiden's role was always the mentor
That may be, but that isn't how it played out in the OG game.

On a side note...

I just watched the MK vs. DC cut scenes...man would I love to see another MK vs. DC game...rather I just want to see a movie as the game was sh!t. NRS did a great job with the cut scenes in that game! The music was good too! Though I didn't care for the story when it came out, watching it again was pretty fun as the writing was decent enough, and they weaved the story between the 2 universes, and represented the characters fairly well...even though if an MK guy or girl would have won a fight they would have finished their opponent. Still though, it was a fun watch!
