MKX Comic Plot Discussion & Speculation Thread

One more thing, based in the comic, it DOES look like Takeda COULD BE Forest Fox?? Honestly, I don't know anything anymore, but it seems like he'll be trained by the Shirai-Ryu. I know that the main argument for him not be Forest is the skin tone, but, that could be just an "art" issue. Not only that, but Takeda IS half Thailandese, so I think that dark skin tone kinda makes sense for him too.
Takeda is NOT Forrest Fox. If he were then he would be called Forrest.

No "art issue", I think it's pretty obvious they're not the same person.

Does anyone on here have the comic through the Comixology app? I got the first issue on Google play but I want to know if the Comixology version has any of the cinematic sweeps and such that I've seen in a few of the other comics I've read there. GP doesn't have them, you just get the 2 pages side by side, which is fine, but I want the comic to be presented to me as cinematic as possible, if possible.
Yeah the comixology reader has a guided view, it's pretty cool. But it doesn't work on chrome for some reason, I had to log in and open it up on Firefox...

You make some good speculative points, and before the comic I was thinking that the "new" Sub was going to be Bi Han anyway, still, the comic gives no clues as to who he REALLY is.

Also, unmasked Sub was a renegade; he left the Lin Kuei, thus was why he didn't dawn his mask. In MK4 he put the garb back on to honor his Brother, and ultimately the Lin Kuei. Again, what gives? If this is Bi Han, did he defect from the Lin Kuei or something?
In the original timeline, Lin Kuei was disbanded after MK3 and he never saw his brother again. In the new timeline, the Lin Kuei turned him into a robot, he fought against them for the fate of earth and his brother said he was perfect as a wraith then called him a douche and tried to kill him. I don't think either one of them would go back or be welcome in Lin Kuei. Whats interesting though is that by MKX Sub Zero is grandmaster again, so its possible the Lin Kuei still disbands, and at some point between now and then, he starts it up anew. That said, this guy just got stabbed by a cursed knife, so this might not even be the same Sub Zero that's in the game, or maybe the one in the game is pulling double or triple sub zero duty by way of costumes again.

  1. If the "Netherrealm War" (presumably MK4) is a central part of this timeline, how long after that event does the comic take place? The opening pages start with "many years ago", so presumably the narrative starts in the present day "25 years later" after MK9 time line and is projecting backwards. So is this MKDA territory? MKD? Armageddon? Keep in mind that MKDA was at least 5 years after MK4, so I'm just curious with what all this lines up with.
  2. So was Kenshi a member of the Red Dragon? Hsu Hao said he "betrayed" them, and, well, his colors have always lined up. Could that be possible?
  3. If both Subzero's died, who is the one in the comic? They make it seem like it is Kuai, but yeah... I can't say I'm happy not knowing who this guy is.
  4. Deagon can "swallow" souls? What? Since when?
  5. Kano knows how to use a Kamidogu?
  1. Safe to say it takes place within the time frame of the 3d games.
  2. He's with the OIA (Outworld Investigation Agency). Kenshi says he was undercover in the Red Dragon in order to find Daegon. Then Sonya calls and tells him about his son.
  3. I think it's Bi Han. He's the Sub that had a relationship with Quan Chi.
  4. IDK lol
  5. Kano doesn't get enough credit for his intelligence.

Technically Kuai Liang did too, since he's among the people who got killed by Sindel and ultimately used by Quan Chi.
Could also be correct. People forget that the Robo-ninjas are cyborgs NOT robots. There's still human flesh and crap under the armor.

Now I'm really confused. Kano just cut a Kuai Liang style scare on that Subzero's face with that Kamidogu.

@Youphemism

BTW, this Guided View is the SHIT! I enjoyed the comic FAR MORE with the guided view on. Plus I saw a few details that I missed before. I love the details too, like Takeda waking up in the morning and the other bed not being slept in; Kenshi left that night presumably. He must really trust Hanzo, and Hanzo must really trust him too. And Scorpion looks freaking bad ass. In one of the pics he has dead pupils in his eyes...which I didn't catch before, and his arms are freaking huge. He's way bigger than Kenshi and the other fighters in the comic, except for Hsu...who he essentially one-shotted.

I'm really looking forward to #2 now.

I was actually thinking something similar, that this Sub may have some mechanical parts that we just don't know about. May be a stretch...but it could happen.

I liked what they had, but yeah, I follow suit with most of the other posters in here, that the first issue was a bit lack luster.

I didn't like the fact that they just dropped you in with no context. That they name dropped every page seemingly, only to hurry through scenes and ultimately give you nothing. I mean, I know its the first issue, and really they gave me more than I was expecting (I thought we were going to get like 10 pages), so I'm happy it is here and that it exists, but I guess I just want more.

Questions I have...

Iirc

MKM was 2 yrs before MK1. And 8 before MK4.
MKDA was 10 Yrs after MK1.

I can't to see the Outworld Civil war. And Daegon. I like how he's being built up as a powerful leader.

Scrubby nice guy
After seeing this Daegon guy for the first time Im even more convinced that the character designers were out of ideas during the Ps2 era, lol

What happened to Shujinko after MKD...and with the new timeline from MK9, did MKD even happen and was Shujinko even around?

I main Shujinko if he is in the game.

Well, Cyrax's DA alt (not that its canon) showed there's still a face and skin on the arms, but who knows how much of the rest of the body. They've all got bombs and blades and matrixes in their chests and in DE, Smoke's nanites completely "reshaped his artificial body" whatever the hell that means even though he was still wearing armor in both outfits.

Sektor's dialogue with CSZ in MK9 suggests that "neural modulators" are the only thing keeping them from being self-aware and remaining under Lin Kuei influence, so definitely the brain is still intact.

Jinko should still be around. His story started before MK Mythologies, and he was officially in the Netherrealm from MK1 though MK4 (iirc) after he trained with Nightwolf and Kenshi for the first tournament. I hope they do bring him back in the comic...I almost expect him to be in there. Honestly, if the Kamidogu are a focus, then he should be right there with them.

Who knows? I mean if Hsu Hao and Mavado are included then it could be around the time/events of Deadly Alliance, which was before Shujinko and possibly before he was born. But because of the Kamidogu's involvement.....Shujinko is definitely possible for the comics.

Shujinko is an old man around MKDA's time. MKD happened immediately afterwards.

Also:

"Our book takes place right in the middle between Mortal Kombat 9 and Mortal Kombat X, about 15 years into that 25 year timeline"

So in essence, the comic is 5 years from where MKDA was. I wonder if Onaga will return this time around. And there seems to be more Kamidogu this time around.

Shujinko gets his shit pushed in at the pyramid same as everyone else so he's dead after MKD/A, but nothing happened in the mk9 plot that would prevent his quest from taking place, albeit with some changes (mostly due to Mileena related retcons). At this point in his original journey, he is either trapped in Earthrealm (cause Nightwolf died before teaching him how to purify his soul) or running around the Netherrealm trying to undo the purification. He would also already have earned the respect of respect of lots of main characters, so he could side with pretty much anyone.

Eh? How could Shujinko be an old man by DA if he starts off as a boy in Deception and Deception happened after Deadly Alliance?

And how do you know that the comic is 5 years after MKDA? I'd say it's definitely before Deception since it's before Shujinko destroyed the Kamidogu but Kano has this new knife so I don't know any more!?
