Did you get the 4 lights of fail or just the 1 like REO did?
first it was just one, then i turned it off and on again for the fun of it (i knew it was dead) and it gave me three lovely flashing red lights.

i was playing guitar hero: metallica for about 10 minutes... and :rant2:.

i got the red ring of death about a week after MK vs DC came out, I was doin Sub Zero's combo challenges and it froze. Turn it back on to find out i had 3 rings of death. The next two weeks were very boring lol

I had a used 360 for 2 1/2 years before it bricked. Bought a Pro the next day, took the 20g hard drive from it, put my 120g onto the pro i bought, got the refurb system 2 weeks later, sold it with the 20g hard drive to my friend for $200.

I win. :coffee:

once a 360 goes RROD, get it professionally fixed, consider having it modded too. Then get a new system for online and keep the fixed one for offline/backups.

I have a 2006 model 360 it got RROD 1 time i didnt play it much. then I got it out one day and tore it apart following a guide from http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/ I ended up removing the x-clamps and bought most of the bolts and rubber washers from a hardware store. I also ordered the 2 extra talismoon fans and the talismoon replacement main fans along with a XCM transparent black case. As far as the RROD goes all it is in most cases is the thermal compound on the GPU and CPU chip which u can buy at any radioshack. I havnt had any problem since i did that to it. I have been playin MW2 and its been fine.

As bad as the RROD is, at least every time I've gotten it and sent my 360 in, I've gotten it back within a couple of weeks.

I know 2 brothers who had 360 since they came out and each one has had RROD THREE TIMES. My cousin has it....and since joining MKC/U/E i have seen COUNTLESS RR's from many many members. When we look at RR nowadays it appears the comment most frequently heard is "Yea, well 360 is a good system, I only got RR ONCE".

While the competition does seem to be more durable, w/ the existing fail-rate of PS3's much lower, it also poses a threat, and w/out a warrantee to back it up. :( For Sony, 100-150$ will get your beloved running again, which ironically is around the same price as the warrantee you can buy w/ it.

I have a friend who had to send his 360 in 16 times.

Yes, 16. And yet everytime, he got great service, about 3 years of XBL for free 5 games, and continues to use 360 exclusively. Why?

Better product. Better games. Better online service and better online community. Period.

Ninja Edit: The 360 he got almost a year ago with the new processor has given him 0 problems, same with about 90-95% of the customers I've sold them to at work.

I've had my 360 for years now and I've never had the red rings. Granted, I play the crap out of my PS3 so my 360 doesn't get much love.
