Tekken 7 first gameplay

It needs an overhaul because it's stale. It doesn't attract anybody but Tekken fans. Look at MKX and Xrd for examples on how to overhaul a game and still be recognizable as part of the series.
Actually, MK is a bad example in general, because the gameplay changes to practically unrecognizable extents in each new version. SF would be a decent example. While SF changes pretty drastically in a lot of ways, there's still a fundamental base it follows. That's what Tekken should be doing.

MK stays fresh because of that. Its his point. SF needs another 3s. Seriously the very basics of MK have remained. Special moves, fatalaties, sweeps, the return of running and stamina. UPPERCUTS...I mean even beginners know to uppercut when someone jumps. Those things are what make MK recognizable and they keep them. The meta might change but fans dont care. Tekken needs a fresh start.

I meant MK9 > MKX

Both games are 2d but look at Scorpion and Sub Zero and see how different they are in MKX compared to MK9.

Now look at Tekken 7 Paul, Dragunov and Law. They look exactly the same. Same strings, same outfits, same combos. It's repetitive and stale.

But then there's Street Fighter lol.

Soooo it looks almost exactly the same but without bounds (which were already taken out in Rev) and with even more Final Fantasy reject characters?

Uh... hype? I mean I'll probably rent it at least 'cos Asuka will be mad at me if I don't, but damn...

Street Fighter 4 was a major overhaul of ST. Although they share alot of mechanics they look and feel very different.
Of course, but there's lots of things that do feel the same. A majority of the returning characters don't exactly completely change their arsenal. Guile still only has 2 specials. Shotos still have low forward. So on and so forth.

You can pick up SFIV and, if you've played any of the older SF games, you don't need much help with a character's moveset unless they're new characters. The only thing you need to learn are the mechanical changes.

While it was an overhaul, it's not like MK, which completely alters normals, strings, etc, from game to game, and have been doing so since MKDA. There is no legacy curve, but there's also a generally distinct lack of familiarity in a lot of things. Some characters retain iconic specials, but that's it.

Even though SF has retained alot from past games, I think it's fairly evident that it's changed much more than Tekken has. Having said that, I never really got into SF4 due to the fact that I'm bored with the shoto characters and I never liked the stun mechanic. So, I don't use SF4 as an example because it didn't change enough, or in the right ways to appeal to me.

yay, the next game which goes to hell with comeback ultras.

Virtua Fighter 6 is my last hope... ( hope Sega / AM2 stays true... )

I really wish they wouldn't do costume customization... It kinda gives the game "Soul Calibur-itis". Defeats the point of having cool, well-designed characters at all when your opponent walks in the ring and is a pink-skinned clown with a rainbow afro...

I kinda give props to NRS for this. Though they do include costumes that completely kill any suspension of disbelief, they are at least limited to classic costumes which you can at least remember looking real and believable at one point in the past.

Until you learn how the system works, plz shut the fuck up

Okay low down time
Rage does not activate till the last 10% of health & GIVES NO DAMAGE BOOST OR A VERY MINISCULE ONE! What you get from rage is access to your Rage Art which does 50% raw but scales harshly in combos, is armored, but like all armored moves loses to lows & if a move would KO you it still does so things like Mach breaker that do about 10% are gonna be good for putting people away. Rage also seems to give access to moves also, Kazuya can switch to Devil form which ends his rage. Not sure what this gives him other than his old Twin Pistons.

The oki game is going to be very different. It's very clear now when you're getting up in ways that can be punished & the punishment is less severe, you pretty much only get a strings worth of damage off of a oki hit now. The wakeup crosschop is very fast now, you can roll after a Toe kick which may be to strong of an option right now but we gotta wait & see. What this does is make getting up still not in your favor but reduce the chance of two touches & your dead, ground throws though are gonna be stronger than normal oki due to this, so if Marduk is gonna be in his oki is gonna be real strong.

Need to find a better explanation of the new bound, it's pretty weird to say the least. Moves that bound on ground hit still bound but most moves that bounded ariel opponents no longer bound.
Nice summary. The new "bound" moves seem to have pretty much the same properties as bounds, only they send the opponent quite a distance away, perhaps in order to limit the amount of followup moves.

Don't know how I feel about them yet, but at this juncture, I'm willing to stay positive. Also, movement seems heavily nerfed, especially backdashes. Perhaps they want people to focus more on close range combat this time around. The only thing that excites and worries me at the same time is the slowdown during trades and at the finals when both people have low health. It is HELLA hype for sure, but I just worry that it will negatively affect people's timing. We'll see though.

I'm actually loving what I see of T7, and yeah BDs are a little nerfed but the movement is fine. When the Devs & top players were playing the movement was more than fine.

I still play TTT2 and it's pretty much the only game I play. There is no need for an overhaul or simplification of anything. I hate armor and the super rage art is fkn retarded. The crush system IS Tekken's armor. How are you gonna do anything to end the match vs for example a character like Lars? He can uf4 you any time he chooses (if that move is still safe) and a simple generic d4 is risky to throw out because of this, nerfed movement means it's really hard to avoid him coming in with fF4,3 for a big damage low. If you step all the time and block his b1 as he is coming in he can probably armor through your mids and highs if you choose to counterpoke him and he can still crush a generic d4 with uf3 or uf4. you have to let the raged player take complete control of the neutral game and give up frames or risk eating 30-40%

Removing floats means you can just autopilot quickstands even vs hard knockdowns and there is no need to recognise any meta related to a spesific knockdown. Okizeme-heavy characters are gonna have a harder time to generate any offence, getting a free back roll from a succesful toe kick is stupid as well. Characters like Kazuya need the post knockdown mix-ups and strong options to inflict additional damage on grounded opponents or pressure them on wake-up. I still hope get-up attacks can be CH'd and they are as unsafe as they are now. I kinda hope they keep the buffed mid hitboxes introduced in Revolution if you can't float the opponent. Kazuya has Devil Jin's b4 now so I am pleased about that, TTT2 b4,1 had it's uses for sidestep and back dash whiff punishes and wall splatting and b4 by itself was a semi-decent poke as it tracked all the way to Kazuya's right and had 15fr start-up, but imo he needed a safe, strong semi-fast CH mid with decent range, especially if his b1+2 will most likely be the unsafe power crush move as it's his invincible move in TR.

Simplifying movelists is probably the dumbest thing they can do, everything has it's purpose. I hate to see Tekken get the SCV treatment. The franchise isn't gonna die, the hardcore vets will stick with the game and people with experience from other fighters will pick the game up every now and then... and maybe stick with it if they have some balls. I couldn't care less about changing the energy signatures or adding slo-mo and other crap to please casuals. You can hop on TTT2, go on ranked and find plenty of shitty players to play with IE. the game is still alive and well.

Tekken 6 roster with low-mid tier characters buffed and 2-4 new characters was all that was needed imo... + Some half-assed story mode with cinematics, some different single player modes and better graphics and boom you have a new Tekken. Everyone can be hype for MKX and jizz in their pants because of some new features and a completely different game, but people ought to realise by now that NRS can't create a completely new fighting game from scratch in 2-3 years. Changing everything is exactly what is wrong with MK as a franchise, there will be glitches and balance issues and when the support from NRS dies we are still left with a completely unbalanced and unfinished game.

I know it's still very early but armor has got to go. Nothing wrong with TTT2 combo system either so no need to change that. If anything I hope for frame data to be given in practice mode as well as a more extensive fight lab... aaaaaand a tutorial on all the existing mechanics for beginners: better tools to learn the game rather than streamline the game. #ENDOFRANT, sorry Ya'll I am tired and butthurt :D

EDIT:... On the other hand we have not yet seen guys like JDCR or Knee play the game and give their thoughts on the system changes.

Everyone shut the fuck up. We have the full archive!
@haketh I'm now cautiously optimistic about this game. We'll see how it develops but if the final roster feels overwhelming I'll probably wont get into it.

Wow, I've never heard of anyone who wanted less customization options, let alone none at all. I wish Tekken would just copy Soul Calibur's massive amount of customization features.

Personally, it gets tiresome to pick a character that has just one or two costumes, so my interest in playing them wanes. NRS had some decent ideas with Injustice costumes, but then they mostly focused on Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and a few other popular characters. At least with Tekken, I'm almost always guaranteed to have a character that does not look anything like anyone else's.

Plus on block.
HOW IS THIS STALE?

I will never get tired of this shit.

I want a couple of big changes, but most of it should stay the same.

I don't want an MKX-esque overhaul.

This is so odd, people who don't really play Tekken says "It's pretty much the same things" people who do say "It's too much change, I don't like all of this new stuff".

I personally welcome all of these changes and I think the game looks great, and I'm going to play the shit out of it and MKX.

The problem is, 90% of the time create a character is just used to "herp, deerpp, look guys! I made a character who's basically 'Bozo, The Amazing Rainbow Minotaur Clown'" And it completely takes away from the game's atmosphere and art design.

What's the point of giving Misturugi a cool looking original costume, if his opponent is just going to crush the atmosphere and make him look like like an out-of-place serious character in a game that's art direction is nothing but a joke?

Soul Calibur easily has some of the worst art design I've ever seen in a video game, and Create a Soul is responsible for that.
