Never played any of the smash series but going to buy Smash 4 (on 3ds) which looks really fun, just wondering if I get really into it and decide to play it competitively will it be better to buy a Wii U or is there no difference from just playing on the 3Ds????
I expect it will be played in tournament on Wii U. Seems the logical choice since most tournament players play with a GC controller.

That said if they both work with each other (Like PSAS did for PS3 and Vita) then bringing the 3DS version to a tournament could be just like using a different controller.

I have the demo and it has completely renewed my hope for this game. I went from "Wait and see" to "Start saving for a Wii U".

Where did that Kirby gif come from? Was there an animated Kirby show?
Yes, but watch the japanese version. The dub is really really bad in english what with Antonio Banderas Metaknight and Southern Dedede. Plus you get to see an episode where Kirby eats shrooms and tries to cannibalize the town. Its called "Hoshi no Kaabii."

I heard the game is slower than brawl even, which is a bummer. I know speed doesn't make the meta what it is, but it definitely takes away from the roots of smash.

Depends on who is playing ;)

Honestly the meta is still developing. If you read my list above air dashes alone have changed the entire mindset of the game so folks are just sorta punching around now trying to figure out what kills, what doesn't and how to cancel stuff's cooldown or startup. Everything is suspect that was ever used before and many new links are being found. Determining game speed now is kind of silly. Remember day 1 Injustice? All zoning. Now look at it...we got Catwoman throwing down in top 4.

Let this develop. Besides from just the 1fow1 stream alone I say its not slower than brawl. I find it faster. The dodge rolls, and runs all being sped up alone did a lot for that. Wait till you play for yourself awhile before believing any judgements on the meta. No one is an expert yet.

I'm not seeing it.

Are you sure you're not hearing that based on the E3 demo, which was actually WAY slower than what's out now?

On a side note, I hope they use their ability to patch this time around, because the first infinite has been found.

To my knowledge they already are with something that was put out on GAF. I believe it was a "friends only/anyone" match finder patch. No clue if thats any indication of them goin in on infinite nerfing or not, but that plus the MK8 support is a good sign they are dedicated to supporting these games at least to a degree. Here's hoping they put a hard stop to consecutive loops like Skullgirls or something to write this issue out without messing with the move's general functionality overall.

Oh by the way I have some interesting tidbits on Custom moves that are unlockable.

  1. Megaman-has both Bombman's Bombs and Shadowman's shuriken as moves that can replace metal blade. Shuriken returns to its point of origin and unlike metal blade cannot stick in the ground or be picked up and used by opponents. Bomb travels in an arc, does more damage and has a bit more knockback as expected.
  2. Megaman- has a wind tunnel as an alt to rushcoil and it will suck in opponents and lift them up to you to combo. Tunnel itself is multihit low damage. Also you can replace rush coil with beat who will grab you and fly you up though its slow and looks vulnerable.
  3. Megaman- his leaf shield is slow and once out you can only throw it or grab folks, the leaves do single digit damage on hit and disappear once they hit plus you can thread the needle and still hit him through the leaf shield...thats it. You can replace it with Skull shield though and while it works the same it can reflect attacks which is good, but I dont belief it can damage opponents which is bad. Maybe it damages on throw? Also he has the plant man Plant shield as well. Not certain how it works.
  4. Samus-Had a SUPER SIZE charge shot. Takes twice as long to charge, is huge and travels slow like yoga flame. Also has a short range shotgun blast version of charge shot to replace the original with.
  5. Samus- has both a slower and faster version of missile to replace missile with. Slow one turns and seeks better fast one has more startup but once locked zips out quick.
  6. Samus-can replace the screw attack with shine spark move.
  7. Ganondorf-can replace jumping backfist with a variant with a sword for more range
  8. Dark Pitt-Has an exploding version of power of flight that hurts enemies
  9. Bowser-Has a really high jumping version of his sit attack with a huge hit box once it lands. Also has an earthquake variant of this move too. VERY good stuff from his customs.
  10. Fox- has a MUCH larger version of his shine shield reflector. Also has a strobe version that I am uncertain how to utilize.
  11. Zelda-seems to have some interesting variations on her Nayru's Love shield. Not certain how they work...

That infinite is like the one she had against ROB in brawl. Apparently it's Robin specific and only works because there's a glitch where ZSS isn't launched when she footstools Robin. For all other characters she jumps up so the infinite doesn't work.

I'm noticing that people aren't abusing laser hopping and shining with either Fox or Falco. Maybe the air dodges, dodge rolls and major changes to those tools in general are serving to create a new meta for those character's styles. Not sure, because folks are super inconsistent on how they play this early as they are all learning. Sure doesn't look like Fox/Falco matches of old though. Maybe this will mean more overall roster viability if their main tools were reigned in to be less machine gun-able.

They aren't laser hopping because there is a huge amount of landing lag after you perform a aerial laser. Making it near impossible to do shl.

This pleases Ganondorf. This pleases him greatly. Also further explains why his running shoulder attack pops them up instead of smashing them now. Not only did it give him a combo starter it prevented him from being a total D-Bag when rage effect comes into play (as it will do OFTEN with Ganondorf).

Megaman feels beast.

What you wanna jump over me? Airshot carries them away.
You trying to anti air my jump in? Hard Knuckle KO.

Feels so great. These two moves have so many setups too. Spark needle sucks them in, uppercut, airshot KO. Up throw Airshot KO. Uppercut Airshot KO. Up B (rushcoil) into Down A (hard knuckle) KO.

Plus his slide and his top spin are relentless tools to keep him inside on folks. Still getting the hang of his other tools. I'm actually able to use leaf shield if I jump because then I got time to summon it and use it for a safe landing approach. I'm needing to get better at the flame pillar which is his down smash, and jumping slash attacks. They seem really good, but I'm not consistent yet where I'm still learning his stuff. His metal blade reminds me of Yoshi Egg aiming. Tap B then flick quickly after that to send it in another direction. Its useful but will take time to get accurate with and it can be used against him. His charged megabuster is great. Its his forward smash and it has great distance as its a projectile smash.

Megaman is DEFINITELY going to be one of my guys. Just so good at controlling space and staying a threat during any method of approach.

I wish this wasn't the case, but this game seems very similar to Brawl to me. I'll still buy the game and play it casually, but this is a far, far cry from Melee. I got the demo and I have no idea how others are coming to the conclusion that this game is "between Melee and Brawl" and "has combos." Best combos I've seen are unsatisfying ones like down throw to uptilt or down throw to fair, and even these don't happen particularly often.

I have tried to watch tournament videos but haven't seen anything that couldn't be mistaken for Brawl. Anyone have a video that disproves what I'm saying? I hope I'm wrong.

Well lets see...Link can cancel out of all throw cooldown into anything he wants. Link has his mashable reduced to 3 hits meaning that it can be used as a linking setup for further hits instead of just as a mashable like in brawl. Runs are faster meaning if you actually bother to use hops you can catchup to any low knockback moves in time for followups...case in point Ganondorf can now do running shoulder into running shoulder into up smash.

Oh and don't forget universal run increase in speeds, a multitude of moves that retained the original startup had their active frames increased enabling you to link stuff, and the removal of tripping and the introduction of 3 air dodges means you are much MUCH more mobile. Oh and your shield roll dodging is MUCH faster allowing more up close slugouts.

Its a far cry from brawl. You can't wave dash or do the Short Hop Fast Fall L Cancel (shuffle) stuff, but thats about ALL thats missing considering you can still dash dance, edge cancel and on a few folks even have specific cancels. You can't combo? You aren't trying hard enough. Not everything is down or up throw into a smash or airs. Many moves link into themselves or setup for you to followup with running attacks. Short hop fast fall stuff will help you a lot to find things is my advice. Getting upset that its not Melee and saying its no better than brawl is ludicrous though. Its a far cry from that. Hell Megaman is like easy mode combos. Spark into uppercut into Air blast.

Its good. Its not brawl slow. Your just being negative because your expectations were for something that had wavedashes and a lot of crazy stuff that wasn't really ever intended like shine dashing, shine spiking and shine from shield canceling with fixed knockback and laser hopping. You wont see that sort of thing in this game. But you will see a LOT of tight footsies and dodge fests into some meaty combos.
