Super Smash Bros Discussion!

That seems like a hand full to do.You don't have gamecube controller or place near by where you can buy one?

If Marvel has Swagneto,Smash has Captain Swag.
Nope :(

I do have the Wii Pro controllers though. I might see if that makes it a bit easier.

I mean, I can get wave-dashes consecutively, and quickly that way, but because I have to reposition my hands, I can't do a quick smash attack out of it.

To wave dash consistently didn't take more than 5-10 minutes. Luckily Project M has a training stage, and I have Gamecube controllers.. so me and a friend sat in training and found a method similar to @LtLuthor 's. By holding down + forward we figured you can just jump and hit air dodge quickly and it would work, though our characters had different timing.

So with that said you use it as more of a "get away" tool then a "get in"?

That's actually the main reason why I pick Samus,Pit and Roy because of how simliar their wavedashes are.

I probably use it more as a "get in" tool actually.

It takes me a bit longer than it should to do a smash attack out of a wave-dash, but it's still better than just going in running.

Generally, with Mario, I love to start combos with a short hop into his d-air. But this appears to be pretty freaking unsafe if they just shield this. I constantly get thrown after it's blocked. So I use a wavedash primarily because it looks like I'm going for a short hop, but then I can slide on the ground forward and go for a throw against a shielded opponent expecting down air or neutral air.

May sound scrubby but what is wave dashing? Was it in n64 version?
Its in all Smash games except Brawl, basically as soon as you press the y button, press the L button to cancel into a dash forward or backward.Every char has different timing on wavedashing

It was only possible in Melee. It's a physics explotation of the directional air-dodge. Basically, if you air-dodge into the ground your momentum from your air dash is conserved so you effectively slide along the ground. Wave dash timing is near universal. To perform a wave dash, jump using a button while holding diagonal down. As soon as you jump, air dodge into the ground. If you do an instant air dodge you will slide along the ground (the length of each slide is character dependant). It has nothing to do with canceling into dashes. It is used as a spacing tool in high level melee play.

Thanks for the correct info.....I'm still a noob at this game.

No worries :). Melee has an incredibly big skill hurdle you have to get over when first beginning. Brawl too, although to a lesser extent.
I agree! The amount of inputs and execution that has to be done to preform on a high level for melee is pretty tough for a beginner. It just takes time some time to get used to.

I need to reposition my hands on my wiimote + nunchuck (I play Project M) in order to wavedash. Once I do, it's extremely easy, but because of that I have to prepare to wave-dash, and can't really take full advantage of it with Mario.

Best way for me was to hold the stick on the nunchuck down+forward, then use the "up" button on the wiimotes d-pad to jump, and then quickly press the dodge button. Since I'm using three different buttons with three different fingers, none of them need to move from one direction to another or from one button to another so it's easiest for me that way.
You need a Cube pad, my good sir. Smash from Melee onward is practically designed around the Cube pad, even Brawl.

Best way to play the game, tbh.

And yeah, Smash takes a shit ton of execution to play at a basic level.

As a Samus player when dealing with rushdown char (Sheik,Fox,etc) do I zone and hope for the best or what? Trying to level up that Samus for CEO.

I tried the Wii classic controller last night, and so far its pretty good as a replacement for the GameCube controller.
The only real difference was the d-pad and left analog stick are in reverse places compared to the GameCube pad.
I don't have to reposition my hands to wavedash at all, and I have the right analog stick for quick smash attacks out of the wave dash.

The only disadvantage from the gamecube controller is the analog sticks are too close together. Feels like your thumbs are hitting each other sometimes. But I'd say it's 90% as effective as a brand new GameCube controller

I played Sheik in Melee and Brawl. If I get a Wii U, I'll be playing Greninja. You can pretty much tell the type of characters I like playing.
