What makes someone the best?

Ok all this talk has me concerned. I've been a part of the competitive NRS scene since MKD went online. Since then I've seen 2 MK sites go down and have been members of 5 different ones. I learned about online rage, tournaments, footsies, character loyalty and the art of counter picking. Although now things are getting unclear in one area...THE AREA THAT MATTERS THE MOST!

How do you know when someone is the best with their character or at a certain game?

My opinion may be disregarded but I formed my opinion over the experiences I have listed above. IMO it is simply this...

1) Tournaments are the only thing that matter!

Not money matches, not FUCKING ONLINE, and certainly not the sole opinions of those "leaders" in the NRS community. When did it become ok for online to determine who the best was. I play online less than 3 hours a week. Most of my time is in practice mode. When I get online I suck...always have. Its how I train. I just don't get it! Maybe people can explain this to me.

All I want to do is perform at tournaments and that is all ANY high tier player should care about. Money matches are a fucking joke...ISN'T A TOURNAMENT A FUCKING MONEY MATCH?????

Anyways. All these threads the past two days have been pissing me off. does anyone even read Zyphox posts anymore? I know I don't!

WHAT IS THE ANSWER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

To me it's always about the Tournament Resume & who can beat more people with said character that make you the best with a character. I've beaten numerous names & stacked up a great tournament resume with Harley Quinn which made me unanimously the best with her. I agree fully with your statement @AK L0rdoftheFLY

Money matches don't mean anything if its consisting of mirrors when discussing who is the better player with a character, but GAUNTLET says just as much as atournaments do...BUT when only counting a tournament placing, I feel that said player(s)MUST keep the HIGH placings consistent.

A great example imo would be pig vs Viking in terms of zod. Pig has shown multiple times why he is the top zod player alot more than Viking has. Its all about CONSISTENCY.

But speaking for strictly placings in terms of our character NW; if thats what you choose to go by then sajam would be the best NW by that factor ONLY whether he used another character but he STILL used NW most of the time...at least that's what he says.

Thats my opinion on tournament placings. You sound real sensitive letting others OPINIONS get to you smh.

The whole system is flawed in the sense that there will never be an empirical decisive "best" since:

1. Not everyone can travel to every tournament.

2. There's ambiguity on what tournaments constitute majors.

That being said, you can make a strong case as being "the best" with such and such character if you regularly travel and get top placement results as a character specialist.

True Tournaments are money matches, but I think they use the term for just two ppl who only go head to head and no one else.

Your a good Nightwing I never said you were bad. Your one of the best. Everyone is going to have different opinions on who no.1 is always

Yes tournaments are a big factor of who the best with a character is, if you're consistently placing the highest every single tournament with said character (ex: 16bit Catwoman) then you're obviously the best

But honestly what would really say your the best with a character is going through a gauntlet with somebody. In tournaments people can argue xyz had an easier path or so and so had easier pools or matchups to top 8 or whatever. But in the gauntlet both contestants fight all the same people and have the same exact path. So there is no arguing or excuses

The gauntlet is the way bro. Plus it's fun and hype
