On the topic of match up knowledge and general knowledge of the game.

Bad online play + spread out community = primitive knowledge of the game. People say they learn match ups online but you only learn a bootleg version of the match up. Also all the false match up info that gets posted up by scrubs that think they know based on online play.

Players gonna learn the matchups in that way it gets played/works where they play be it online or offline. Someone who has local scene will learn his matchups online and someone who has a strong local scene and doesn't play online gonna learn how it gets played offline.

At the end there is nothing wrong with either of that it just differs its like in Mobas where ppl on the EU/NA server learn how the game gets played their and ppl on the KR/China server learn how it gets played their. Nothing from with either of that someone who plays online has to adjust when he plays offline because some things might not work and someone who plays offline gonna have to adjust aswell if he starts to play online because something might work differnt.

I dont see a reason to talk bad about any of the two parties just because their learned to play the game/matchup different. Online play is these days a huge part of videogames and ppl should accept that in my opinion.

Overall great post @AK Pig Of The Hut you've clearly grown as a person. Glad to see you're out of your mental funk. One point I question is whether or not you are self referencing in this part of your post:

We don't need more players in the community, playing every character in the game, thinking they understand those characters inside and out telling people like 16 bit how good his or her character is."

I feel like both you and M2Dave jumped ship on Sinestro and Deathstroke well before the characters were fleshed out. But perhaps you're admitting this and looking to change that attitude moving forward. If so kudos, I think you are one of the best at character mastery when you dedicate yourself to taking the time to flesh a character out.

Also in regards to the wonder chef debacle here. I think you're just being difficult, you know as well as anyone the amount of sacrifice that's required to travel and attend tournaments, and it's more than just financial. I don't think you'd argue against that. It's pretty logical you stop showing up you stop being relevant, pretty much a universal truth in any sport or activity. That said it would seem to me Chef was just elaborating on this point to emphasize that his tweets were not in reference to Theo where your debate with him initially started. I think if his tweet read "I'm not talking about Theo" instead, there wouldn't have been such a long derailing of the discussion.

So you say ppl who play online shouldnt be able to discuss matchups because they only play online? So from the 4 million (or something like that) ppl who bought the game only the ~3k or something like that ppl who get consistent offline sessions in should be able to talk about that?

Would properly be good if both parties online and offline players would be a bit more open minded in regards to everything.

I've got 99% online experience and 1% offline experience (CEO) and you know what? Outside of zero lag, the game felt the same to me as far as MUs go.

The experience I gained from playing online carried over to playing offline 100%. The only difference was that it was more fluid and I had to adjust my timing. Once I adjusted to the timing difference from playing on an ASUS monitor for the first time, I was able to do my thing exactly the way I do it online.

Yes, offline is far better, but if you're an online warrior (a good one at that), your MU knowledge isn't irrelevant.

Have you played KI online at all? I ask because it probably has the best netcode I've played of any fighter and I personally don't find the online and offline experience with that game to be that different from one another, especially in comparison to the NRS titles. But I'm also a scrub, so I defer to you and your opinion if you've played it.

However, this idea that the online/TYM community bashes character loyalists in actual tournaments who switch to different characters for hard match-ups is nutty. What business is theirs if Deg or whoever decides not to use Zatanna or Harley? Hell, they're the ones that registered and bought the plane ticket. If they want to play a different character for a bad match-up, let them.

That's what most of my hatemail consists of. =P I've invited people who said that into online practice, told them to pick Doomsday and start using Earth Shake to show them it's not unblockable. They leave shortly after when I tell them to level up after blocking almost all of them. =D

This is the way the world works. Whether you love it or hate it, it's how it works. It's a "what have you done for me lately" world.

Espn and all sorts of news and media have "weekly power rankings" in the NFL. Week 7 the Bears are the best. Week 8 the Bears have their bye (off week for non sports fans) and the Falcons win 45-3. Now the power rankings changed and everyone talks about the Falcons being the best even though the Bears didn't even play.

In baseball people pop off about some pitcher. But pitchers only pitch once every 5 days. So if on his off days some other guy throws a no hitter, people are going to be talking about that guy, even though the first guy just happened to be off.

This is how the competitive world works. It sucks you couldn't travel man. I understand how frustrating that is. But you have to understand that stock you built up fades quickly. The game develops, MUs develop, and if you aren't out there showing why you're tops all the time, then you get passed up.

That's just....how it is.

It's cool you want to be the best with your character. Even if that isn't everyone's motivation, we all want it to a certain extent. But from the outside looking in, your posts just come off as shameless "me me me look at me". Whether that's your intention or not, that's how they sound.

It's hard for some people because they refuse to go into practice mode and set Doomsday to just use Earth Shake or record him doing certain strings into Earth Shake. They prefer to sit there and bitch about it instead of trying to learn to block it.

Pretty sure pig mostly plays online. I believe one of the reasons this site exists is to promote the offline scene. If you feel like you are better than offline players then show up and prove it. People don't take online matches seriously due to lag. People will refuse to play on a monitor if it's not 2ms OFFLINE because of lag. It makes a huge difference. Personally I love when online people start to play offline it builds the scene and friendships are formed.

It's typically what spectators want. From a competitors standpoint point I completely understand and respect people switching characters.

When push comes to shove I'm a spectator who supports the scene, I subscribe to streams, pay for no adds for MLG, donate to online pots, etc. But as a spectator I hope for entertaining matches. Sometimes I hope that people change characters, take MK9 for example. Dizzy Cage vs. Pig Kenshi watching that matchup is brutal I always hoped that Dizzy would pick somebody else, I think the matchup was 8-2 Kenshi so Dizzy pretty much never had a chance. On the contrary I hated when Deg switched from Zatanna to AM vs. Chris G Green Arrow, he went from an even matchup to a lopsided one in his favor. As a spectator I thought that was really lame, because I didn't think there was any reason he couldn't have beat Chris's Green Arrow with Zatanna. That said, as a competitor I completely understand why he did it and I don't think many people aside from some of the character loyalist like 16bit or Dizzy would have done any different.

It's hard not to root for the little guy in a 7-3 matchup. The person on the 3 has to play that much better in order to win which means chances are if they do win it's because the matched involved spectacular play on their side of things.

No.... What I'm saying is that online play should be better so that we don't have online only players disagreeing with offline players on matches.

I will say a lot of online match up info won't apply offline and vice versa. I see arguments all the time and it's dumb. The game shouldn't be do drastically different online. Look at ki, ggpo supported games and even sf4. All those games play pretty legit online.
