I mean it was 5 minutes of matches, 30 minute break. 5 minutes of matches, 30 minute break. You just have to wonder exactly what the problem(s) were, even after all the technical issues were fixed.
I can remember during MK9 it was like match, short break, match short break. I don't see why 30 minutes of matches and a 5 minute break wouldn't suffice and be completely manageable in their schedule. During the huge downtime I just saw the MLG screen on my non adblocked browser and then a random commercial here and there, maybe two in a row, but they clearly didn't have a huge commitment to commercials in that time. I am curious to see what the details of the hold ups were exactly, other than knowing that systems weren't patched and internet apparently was an issue?

What's annoying is that while nothing was happening in Injustice stream, I was watching COD stream and there was non-stop action. Sometimes 3-4 matches in a row, very little to no commercial at all except when the entire team matches were done.

Why can't they just include ads on the show like they all do it in sports? Just put some banners around, ask commentators to do small commercial bits while something pops up on the screen. How is that hard.

It's much smarter this way because at least you don't lose 10K viewers. You keep the action going and show small ads during button checks and put your sponsor logos on the players/commentators/monitors. I mean what's the point of running stupid 15-30 min ads if everyone stops watching your stream because the content sucks or is straight up non-existent?
I knew going into this that MLG is mainly more about team-based eSports games like CoD, Starcraft 2, etc. They have always been like that. Larger audience, more sponsors, bigger prize pool, higher stakes. Plus you know how fighting games are compared to shit games like Call of Duty, we are a spec of dust unfortunately. It's a shame. FGC has some of the most passionate gamers.

Exactly Shock. All I've heard is that the Internet went down for a while and was eventually fixed. And that some of the consoles needed patched. But beyond that I can't see the need for ridiculously long breaks between every single match.

And yeah thank God for adblock. I just muted and checked every few minutes to see if it was back. Can't wait for 9 more hours of it on day 2.

On the subject of match, commercial break, match commercial break:

I'd actually be totally fine with that....if the breaks were 2-5 minutes long. A lot of the time inbetween matches is the commentators filling up air time and button checking anyway and if they used that for addtime that would be cool....but jesus H christ....most of these "short breaks" were like 30 minutes long. I literally squeezed in an entire episode of Young Justice inbetween matches. That is inexcusable!

See that'd be fine. A format of say 2 matches, maybe a 5 minute break to show some sponsors, do a button check, etc. That's fine. But one 3/5 match, then a half hour break between every single one is just absolutely ridiculous. I feel for the players, I know a lot of them are pissed on a whole different level because of today's BS.

Yeah it was a combination of things like that.

-Injustice not hotfixed
-Internet problems to update consoles (also a problem for StarCraft)
-StarCraft was probably their number 1 priority
-Bracket/seeding problems
-Fire alarm went off apparently at some point
-No one could play a match unless an official MLG judge was there so I'm guessing there were very few judges (I know one time the only judge available left randomly and they had to stop/cancel the match and go to a 30 min commercial break)

Not sure what else.

But of course they will say it's mostly related to the low number of entrants + low number of views.

Here's my beef. What's the deal with "judges" for IGAU? This isn't CoD 5v5 team tourneys. We have had so many successful tournaments with just players. We set the rules, and the players agree to them, hardly ever an issue.

It's just like they have to control every single aspect of the damn tournament. No freedom. It's sad compared to past events like UFGT, East Coast Throwdown, Civil War, etc.

I'd like to take this moment to preemptively call *BULLSHIT* on this defense in case they actually use it.

I completely appreciate the fact that our community delivered underwhelmingly when they put the ball in our court.....but the price we were going to pay for that was the end of any chance of future Injustice MLG events. What MLG just did with that entire day was sully their brand. They removed any incentive I have to ever care to watch future MLG events....let alone *attend* them.

Well to be fair, MKX will probably be released by then, and Injustice will be shelved. But they definitely did not make their name look any better.

Man, back at the hotel exhausted, terribly ran tournament so far. All this money, and every time I tried to watch a match that was happening I was kicked out of the area, only got to watch the ones that were streamed from a less comfortable distance then you guys at home. Really hope they fix this bs for tomorrow cus we got some hype shit coming up early on.

I don't get it, why were people spectating there getting moved around against their will and unable to watch whatever the hell match they wanted?

Don't worry, it was shitty for us stream monsters too. 8 matches for 9 hours of streaming, not to mention the 45 minutes "breaks" and awful music.

That's exactly my point. When MKX does come out, who's left here who actually cares whether or not MLG picks it up. I know I sure won't.
Thousands of dollars in prize money makes people care. You know how many entrants you would need at a normal tourny to have a first place prize of 4000.

I had it on our big screen through chromecast at work in our office while we were during crunch time for orders, and when it went down everyone noticed, what seemed like 90 minutes later and nothing changed, several people came in and were like "It's STILL not back?" I mean, I think there had to be that much time at one point. There was a huge gap, or it appeared to be so, between Slayer and Syk, and then their restart on the patched system. I think the full wait totaled around 3 hours. I heard the systems were not just unhotfixed, they were actually more than one patch behind in some cases? We had a few unpatched/nonDLC consoles at FR because the TOs thought that the Ultimate Editions they bought would remedy any possible problems, a la komplete edition for MK9, the rest were hotfixed but players turned off a few systems by accident and logged in wrong without reporting it immediately. This causes the hotfix issue but I don't think it was what was wrong today, it sounds more negligent.. You can run that so far as I know on a non internet system never connect and you're fine. This is not the case with Injustice as it's still being fixed time and time again. IMO, anyone who can prove they run tournaments should be able to get some kind of tournament official discs for the games that require nothing of internet related connection, with all the costumes, including IOS and whatever random shit you might forget is there to unlock.
