Zoning in MK10

Rathalos

Play Monster Hunter!
I think you could use creative ways to get around the projectile capture problem of fire ball trades.

If you normalized the trajectory of high fireballs so they all have the same path and collide, ice blast could be on a slightly lower path and pass by all the generic high fireballs, and it be above all the low fireballs.

Spear you could simply get away with not counting it as a projectile.

Cyrax nets have giant holes in them, fireballs would just go through the holes lol.

Reptile force balls would just have multiple hits of durability. Normal fast balls would have 1 hit, normal slow would have 2, EX slow would have infinite and just devouring everything in its path.

But there would still be a few odities like Noob Shadow Clones which would trade with ice blasts, but hes the older brother so he wins by default w/e.
Strykers gunshots would be annoying in this system though, since nothing could trade with them, he is Stryker though, so he could use all the advantages he can get.

W/e I'm just spit balling, I'm sure if NRS wanted to go that route, they could could easily balance it right.

Really likes to throw things at you.
talking about the way the game reads inputs more than the projectiles themselves.

like pop off a few iasai's with mileena (bf1) and then try us the same method of input as cyborgs ianb (bf1),
you have to do a whole different motion with inj
Ah I see... I don't play Injustice so I couldn't speculate on that but having read threads about it I gather it is pretty atrocious in Injustice

I hope Rushdown is the central focus compared to zoning in MK10 (70-30 differential). We all saw EVO 2012 and how much the crowd was bored because of the zoning that dominated Top 8.

What I'm most hoping for is logically balanced designs.

It's ok for a character to be specialized in zoning, but then that character should be weak up close and have under average offense/escape options. If a character has powerful mixups and high damage combos then he shouldn't have good projectiles or anti-zoning tools. And if a character has "a little bit of everything" then he should be average at everything. Not godlike at zoning, godlike at footsies and godlike up close.

In other words, no super characters pls.

Get on that hook
If you have not learned by now, the cycle with NRS fighting games is...

1) A great zoning character is introduced in version 1.01. Online scrubs cry. TYM scrubs cry. 16 Bit invents a corny amalgamation between the character's name and "broken" and declares that he/she is the most broken in fighting game history.

2) Paolo succumbs to the pressure (again) and the character is consequently normalized to mid tier or worse in version 1.02.

3) M2Dave throws a tantrum on TYM, Twitter, and numerous podcasts for an entire year.

4) A top tier zoning DLC character is released. Online scrubs have moved on to play the new Call of Duty game. So has 1/3rd of the TYM scrubs. After two years of testing the beta and one year of playing the game in tournaments, 16 Bit has finally learned how to play the game and complains a lot less, which means...

5) Zoning players can finally enjoy playing a very good zoning character.
LMAO

And to those suggesting Fireballs cancel each other out, just no.

It just makes it not MK/NRS if projectiles were to hit each other. NRS projectiles are unique and trading projectile has its own depth. You'll be taking that away if it were to be changed.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
I'm not sure how Freddy and Kenshi fit into this, they were the way they were in MK9 because of a grotesque lack of testing, not so much their inherent designs.

Are you sure you're not thinking of EVO 2013?

GT MK OshTekk.
Tone down zoning and zoning was OP on MK9 are you on drugs?

Mk9 was all about rush down. massive chip damage on block and big damage combos lol.

No more physical projectiles.

If you are going to put a character in the game designed around getting past projectiles, make it include ALL projectiles.
This is subjective to two things:

1) What is actually classified as a projectile (I already knew what you was trying to shoehorn before scrolling down lol)

2) Over-attachment to said character's move. Nobody says Cage beats Sub-Zero because he can jump over ice puddle. Or that Freddy beats Kenshi 9-1 because Kenshi's specials are nullified.

ridiculous pressure and 50/50s? Look at Jax
LOL. Explain.

Because they are very strong zoners, top 5 characters, and this is a thread about zoning?

Yes, but by loophole circumstances. Freddy won't even be in MK10 for obvious reasons (I guess his moveset could be inherited by some other character though), Kabal would still be a top 6 character if you took away his zoning tools, and Kenshi, well.. evidence is suggesting 16 Bit is back on board for MK10 testing, I think that's all that needs to be said about that lol.

What I'm saying is, those characters will be re-evaluated in general, not just their zoning aspects. But you'd still be crazy to say MK9 would've been all fine and dandy without them.

MKF30

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
You could zone with a lot more then just freddy, kabal and freddy in MK 9. We are many hur hur...

Speaking of which i want Erm back, hopefully.

They could balance around it, but the way it works now gives MK its own unique feel in the projectile game. Characters win in the zoning just by how their projectile properties match up, along with other factors. It adds something you don't see in other fighting games.

I know the zoning in MK9 is flawed, but it's because NRS made specific mistakes, not by the design of the game. I think the MK zoning system as it is can be balanced correctly.

TaffyMeat

Infinite Meter Kombos
I hate zoning. In test your luck, there is a feature called armor which you have to uppercut loads to break. I would happily spend all my meter if it gave me armor. But to make it fair, armor only protects from projectiles.
So you run to your side of screen and zone all day long. I build meter from block chip damage. Spend ALL my meter for armor. Force you to have to get in close to hit me but I have no meter. Time limits of how long armor lasts are subjective.

Ray'sGoodLiquor

I don't care I'm not a competitive player anymore
I wouldn't really miss instant airs, but I doubt anyone would agree with me. It always seemed like a bullshit way around projectile recovery but would only apply to a couple characters. Maybe if there was some significant in air recovery like with Sindel.

Nope because I was at EVO 2012 and that was what dominated top 8 until PL repeated as champion.
