WTF... Blasphemy! Change your name to MikeLuigi'sMansion or something!I'm surprised C. Falcon hasn't been confirmed yet, I remember he was confirmed really late in Brawl's development.
C. Falcon and Luigi are my mains, easily. I like to play as Samus and Mr. Game & Watch as well.
Greninja is your favorite pokemon??
Out of all of them it had to be one so unfamiliar that I had to look it up? (To be fair the I haven't kept up with the newer ones but still...)
It's a "ring out" fighting game. You win by knocking your opponent out of the area.(Note, you can delete this message and PM me if you think this message will anger people)
I've read some of the first comments and now I wonder...
Why are people so desperate for Smash to be considered a fighting game series?
Before you angrily attack me, I respect Smash 64 players and Melee players for their creativity, execution and knowledge of multiple characters and %'s combos work at per character.
I certainly respect Brawl players for their general patience and strategic plays.
It's just that the way I see it, Smash is a platformer FIRST, fighter second.
Platformers are games where you traverse platforms to reach a goal. You die when you are killed by an enemy or fall off the platforms into a bottomless pit.
I see Smash Bros as the perfect example of a COMPETITIVE PLATFORMER. Your goal is to make everyone else fail (fall off the platform) by knocking them off the central platform (the stage) with a variety of attacks.
The stages themselves are traversed via simple platforming. (Moving from platform to platform on Battlefield).
I absolutely agree that Smash has elements of fighting games, with footsies, matchups, normals, specials, combos, attacks < blocks < grabs < attacks, fighting game archetypes etc, etc...
I just think that because the GOAL of the game resembles that of a platformer, I feel that it is a fighting game SECOND.
Otherwise, let me put it this way: If Smash Bros is so clearly a fighting game, why is there so much controversy about the topic?
Again, I don't think it should be considered an insult if Smash isn't labelled by everyone as a FIGHTING game. It's it's own thing, but that's okay.
Fair enough. It's a "ring out" fighting game. You win by knocking your opponent out of the area.
This does not change the fact that Smash fills all criteria for a fighting game and so should be considered one.
It's a weird argument. But the fact of the matter is that smash is a fighter with some unique components.Fair enough.
I would like to say that 'ring out fighters' or even games that feature ring outs are generally 3D fighters, and you usually cannot avoid a ring-out if you're knocked out by the first hit. Even then, ring outs are not the ONLY way to win in those games.
In Smash, you can grab ledges, recover, traverse UNDER the stage, along with many unique forms of aerial control.
You have so much aerial freedom in Smash, that that's why I initially drew the connection.
Before you say "Marvel", notice that Marvel is fought in a traditional 2D fighting backdrop (fixed vertical walls a set horizontal distance apart and no stage complexity), while Smash is never.
If you take Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Yoshi's Island, etc out of the picture, many of the popular casual stages (Pokefloats, Big Blue, Rumble Falls, 75m, Rainbow Cruise, Icicle Mountain etc) actually have basic platforming while you fight.
I guess it would definitely be wrong to call it a straight up-platformer, but I still feel like there's an argument for it to be titled a "platformer-fighter".
You could definitely argue that if you look at COMPETITIVE Smash, then it's a fighter. Even then, I would say that it's still stretching it a bit.
Just to re-iterate, I mean NO disrespect to top-level Smash players, however none should be taken.
Pokemon <3 I bet they do. Didn't lucario in brawl have his shiny form in one of his color alts? You should play project M!Maining greninja and pikachu. Greninja is my favorite pokemon. He better have an Alt skin which will be his shiny form

I suppose I've always been a Nintendo Fanboy at heart; had all consoles from release day. Since brawl has been out for 7 or so years I figured everyone knew about it (it's one of the default titles you have to buy if you buy a wii). It's still really good and fun to play although the balance is somewhat whacky (metaknight is far and away the best followed by Ice Climbers, Olimar, Diddy, Marth, Snake, Falco). All in all there's about 15 or so tournament viable characters although metakinght dominates.
I wish Smash was popular at my universityI found out recently that Smash is really popular at my college university so now I may pick this up seriously since I'm always on campus anyway haha.
Would probably play Ness, Zelda or Captain Falcon and troll with Wii Fit trainer.
I need to reposition my hands on my wiimote + nunchuck (I play Project M) in order to wavedash. Once I do, it's extremely easy, but because of that I have to prepare to wave-dash, and can't really take full advantage of it with Mario. How long did it take some of you guys to learn how to wavedash.....it took me a minute or two to get Samus wavedash down enough to where I don't kill myself anymore.
That seems like a hand full to do.You don't have gamecube controller or place near by where you can buy one?I need to reposition my hands on my wiimote + nunchuck (I play Project M) in order to wavedash. Best way for me was to hold the stick on the nunchuck down+forward, then use the "up" button on the wiimotes d-pad to jump, and then quickly press the dodge button. Since I'm using three different buttons with three different fingers, none of them need to move from one direction to another or from one button to another so it's easiest for me that way.
If Marvel has Swagneto,Smash has Captain Swag.Show ya moves!
