where do we draw the line??? I do want to punch people who say cyber-athlete but i am the devil's advocate
You draw the line as an athlete if it requires an overall good physical condition of your body, and maintaining that physique. A runner has to maintain his or her stamina, physique, all year around, or at least in time for competition, same goes for any physical sport.

A gamer does not need to keep his or her skills sharp physically, mentally yes, but saying you have to keep a healthy state of mind all year around is a very weak argument, and saying that you have to keep your reflexes in check is also a very weak talking point, in my honest opinion. Sooner or later, it does become muscle memory.

People also assume that sports and athletes do not require mental strength or reflexes, such as gamers, they sure do, on top of everything else.

I do think that in terms of the amount of practice, dedication, time, effort, skill, and level of competition games and sports requires to become a expert in their realm, is roughly the same.

Why does it matter whether gamers are called athletes? Athletes get paid millions of dollars because people find them entertaining. If people thought gamers facing off was entertaining, MLG would be the NBA and gamers would be making millions a year. That probably wont happen but it certainly wont if gamers try and lump themselves in with athletes. All you can do is try and get as many people into games as possible.

By the way,

theres a huge different between: playing a sport

and being an athlete.

An athlete is 24/7. His entire life revolves around the sport.

Playing a sport is part time, you have college studies, work, friends, games, etc. It's not something that takes up majority of your day.
Too many people calling themselves athlete when they never gave 3-4 years, 4-7 hours a day of their lives to one sport. If amateurs walk around all day calling themselves athletes because they take part time in a sport, then whats the whole point of a title. Theres too many dedicated people out there to water the title down.

Theres a different between motor skills and athleticism also.

Having the dexterity to do Instant Nova Blast is a special motor skill.

Being able to clean and jerk two times your body weight or have a vertical leap of 36 inches is athleticism.

I disagree. Athletes are people who compete in athletics.

Im ok with gamers being called athletes if it grants them special legal privileges. That opens up a lot of doors for the FGC, don't know why anyone would have a problem with that.

The only reason I have an ass is not because I sit on it playing video games, it's because I work out.

I agree with you lol. Reading that article made me cringe.
There's nothing physical about gaming.

It strains your eyes, causes unhealthy lifestyles if addicted to it too much, etc.
It's a hobby.
It does nothing to benefit physical health.
Agreed lol. I am not an athlete, i just love practicing volleyball and having a healthy life. But if i was an athlete and i read that post i would be upset.

I'm gonna say yes in the same way Taco Bell is a health food store. Seriously though why hasn't Nike hit up KDZ for a shoe deal yet?
