I thought the commentary was great, for the most part. The only things I didn't like were the constant inside jokes that the overwhelming majority watching wouldn't get. It's very off putting. I was watching the stream with numerous people and I had to explain to them what they were talking about. Especially when it came to the JIM JIM JIM stuff with Flash. That and the loudness was very offputting and annoying. Some jokes seemed very forced.
Other than that, I thought it was great. There was some overlap when speaking (which happens, especially for two people who never worked together) and I think DMS says the name of strings a bit too much. That's just more of a pet peeve than anything.
I agree that there shouldn't be any crap talking of players during a tournament. That's one thing I made sure I didn't do at Evo last year (amongst other things). When I looked at my twitter feed and messages on TYM a lot of people thanked me for giving respect to their scene. I mean, why not? If the players are there I am going to try to give them as much respect as possible.
For example, the commentary for finals at NEC was terrible. I loved that Jack and DMS were very balanced in what was going on in matches. When someone did something smart, they called it out. No matter who played. When PPJ was kicking ass at NEC in finals he wasn't getting much props at all. Instead it focused so much on the other guy (Tyrant) getting attacked with almost no mention of PPJ at all. Like he didn't matter. It was very negative overall. I wasn't too happy about that.
