[UPDATED w/ Actual Footage by @NYCFurby ]Killer Instinct Tournament Interrupted by Xbox One's DRM

This is exactly why I said it honestly gotta be a bug in the system, its likely when good ol' Nelson flipped the switches for the DRM he missed one on teh way out the door I'm kidding seriously, but it seems to me like its not a return of DRM, just a bug, because if it works offline without issues then it what would have been the point of a DRM system that acts that way.
Well, a bug would imply its unintended. As far as I can tell the system is working as designed. They never said no drm checks. They said no mandatory 24 hr drm checks. The problem here is that the xbox thinks it should be able to check (cause networking is on), but it can't. So after it fails enough times, it assumes you're doing something suspect. Even the 360 does DRM checks on digital titles. This situation is actually more lenient than that one.

You have to remember, microsofts entire design philosophy for the bone was that it would be a permanent fixture in homes connected to broadband internet 24/7 with a small collection of dedicated users exclusive to that system alone. No traveling, no flaky internet connections, no offline / remote use at all, and if you were going to play somewhere else, you were going to go somewhere with another xbone equally connected to the internet using the same ids and setups you do at your own house.

The idea of people hauling them around to bars and hotels with spotty wifi at best for hundreds of people who don't even have gamertags to play a digital title for hours on end is so far off their design model, they probably don't even care. I know the FGC thinks sony and ms care about the needs of povery production, but they really don't. Be thankful there's any support for the offline model left at all.

Converters, Xbox Pad was never a legit excuse. It was fan boyism. PS3 lagges for both MK and INJ, god forbid you have to play on one of the old Fat PS3s, dear god, it's worse then online.
Konverters lag.. It's not fanboyism. I admit that there is lag on some stages and depending on interactables. This is just my personal preference.

You of all people should know how irritating it is to practice F2D13, Dash, 223 (or 111) and then drop it in tournament just because you had to switch to a laggier device.

I'm not saying that one is better than the other. I'm just saying that it is understandable for non-fanboy reasons to prefer the PS3 over Xbox even despite the lag spikes. In MK9, with certain stages banned, it wasn't really bad.

This thread is garbage.

1) The same shit would happen on the old Xbox and I believe even PS consoles when playing offline on a secondary console (not the console that owns the game)

2) Stop the fanboy bullshit. And stop being histrionic.

What? Just stop lol

I love how every KI thread basically boils down to

"my console has a bigger dick than your console", "poor people that can't afford an Xbone hate it because they can't buy KI", and "this game I've most likely never played in my life is terrible, good thing I don't own it" statements being tossed every 4-5 posts or so.
Seriously, this. Can't go in a single KI thread without people shitting on the XB1, grow the fuck up.

This is an email to sent to all the news outlets 2 weeks ago... yet no one reported on:

Microsoft Disingenous About Daily Check-in Reversal?

We run a tournament weekly at Eight on the Break in Dunellen, NJ. Recently we added Killer Instinct to the lineup of games we play every Tuesday night (which gets stream at http://twitch.tv/8wayrun). However, we had an experience last week that greatly questions how committed Microsoft actually is to the reversal of their daily check-in policy they initially announced a few months ago.

Since Eight on the Break is a small arcade, we actually depend on players to help bring in consoles and games for us to play on. Two people each week bring in their Xbox Ones for us to run the Killer Instinct tournament. One of the players had played Killer Instinct that morning, and we had no issues using his console.

The other player had not played Killer Instinct that day; in fact he had not turned his Xbox One on at all. When we tried to boot up Killer Instinct on his console (which was NOT connected to the internet), we got a warning stating that the license for the game had expired. Really? It had expired after a little over 24 hours? Was Microsoft really still enacting the whole daily check-in policy for downloadable games?

So we connected the console to the internet... only to realise that either Microsoft's or Double Helix's patch/license servers were down. Booting into the game would stall at a screen stating "Checking downloadable content"; and it would remain there and never advance. Checking in with hundreds of stream viewers who were watching live, they too confirmed that they could not play Killer Instinct due to this error.

Because of this, we were stuck running our tournament at a slow pace on only a single console. This issue confirms two things for me: that the 24 hour check-in is still in place for digital content, and that if the internet goes down in your area, there may be a chance you will no longer be able to play your downloaded games.

I am also aware that is exactly how it worked on the Xbox 360 as well. Without connecting to the internet, you could not play some of your games. Last year during Hurricane Sandy, we lost internet for a week... and I spent the entire time on my PS3, playing video games. It seems that with the Xbox One, this will not be possible.

This issue is especially problematic for larger tournament organizers. Many tournament organizers will have 20+ consoles in storage, used strictly for tournaments. For a 3 day event, tournament organizers will have to spend extra time every morning, renewing their licenses, for games they already own, during their already busy schedule.

Well apparently this is a non issue: this can't happen if you disable the wifi.

So if you were to actually play the game offline, this does not occur. So offline tournaments are safe.
This isn't a problem if you disable wifi.

/thread
If the wifi (or any network connection) is on the bone will seek a connection to verify DRM on digital titles and if it fails so many times or for so long, it will eventually bail on digital titles. The "solution" is to just turn your wifi off and pull your plug so it doesn't try to talk to anything.
WRONG. If you see the post I made above; it sill affects disconnected consoles.

Ya'll stingy
I like how some people come in this thread and ignore the explanations just so they can bash a system. It's been said several times and I'll say it again....Turn off the wifi. Also, people were trying to access the same account on multiple consoles or something. Stahp being silly.
you won't be able to do that when they bring back the 24 hour online check in, and you shouldn't have to do that anyways. they played the game for about 5 minutes before the prompt came up so idk if i believe the one account on two consoles theory.

The servers were having issues that day and affected me as well. There was a work around in which you would start the game go to settings disconnect from wifi open up KI multiplayer and then reconnect. Think that was more of a problem with the game than the Xbox itself.
