Why Don't You Play Street Fighter?

Dead Kings Rise
You are right he has one of the slowest walking speeds and his wake-ups are also pretty bad. I do know how you feel though, the character isn't easy by any means. I think if you put enough time you'll quickly realize how dangerous he is up close with his effective frame traps, reliable anti-airs and array of anti-zoning tools. He is a force to be reckoned with from close to mid-screen, for sure.
He will take a lot more time to be effective with than one of the shoto characters, especially if your just starting. Keep it up though!

I'm also down on XBL, if you ever feel like sparring.
I mean I really like him, I'm just super new to street fighter and not really sure of what to do.

The only thing I'm really having trouble with is his Zonk Knuckle, I can't get it consistently.

What do you mean getting it consistently? Getting it to come out or using it effectively? To get it to come out you simply hold a punch button for a bit and then release it, while all 3 punch versions are the same I recommend the HP version because LP and MP are very important. The move has a few uses like going through fireballs or going through your opponents moves with the EX version (holding 2 punch buttons instead of 1)

I've put maybe an hour or two total in the game, I'm still trying to find the timing to get it consistently to where I know exactly when it's ready. I appreciate the help though.

This isn't really part of the OP, so could I PM you later?

You got it, glad to help.

never played it. I would pick it up if some kind and knowledgeable people that have Xbox live would mentor me.

It's the foundational movement that has defined special moves since the dawn of modern fighting games!

I think you're exaggerating. =P If my wife can do this motion with 100% accuracy, anyone can!
I was making a joke but yeah go ahead and be all serious.

The incredible introvert
Combo system slightly, everything was like playing alpha patrokolos in soul calibur 5, 6 attack buttons, charge move being super finicky.
I like the look of it though, I'm thinking of trying to pick it up, but blah lie looks far more cooler, and I really don't like the execution... Or the six attack buttons.

SUPARNOVAX

Low tier? I was born in it, molded by it
I play it because it's the grandfather title of the fighting game genres.

That and there is less b.s. random stuff than IGAU, which I am trying very hard to continue playing for the love of the DC franchise.

How did NRS fuck a game up so hard?

I'm interested in trying to pick it up. I like the mind games in fighting games but I think a big thing is a lack of exposure and the characters seem bland. Why would I pick any ol guy when I could be a telekinetic ninja or a guy who throws his hat to chop people in half?
I would pick it up on the side to help with my fundamentals because I think you can learn things that can cross over, and Dhalsim seems pretty cool.

I love SF. I wish there were fewer option selects to force more reads, but OS's are a natural and inevitable part of any FG depending on how the engine handles inputs.
Almost every SF has had some form of option select. At least SFIV doesn't have anything like SFII's throw OS where if you block, you get thrown, if you don't, you get punched in the face (rinse, repeat if playing ST Rog). Or better yet, some of Chun's stuff in 3S where her OS can lead to 50% damage.
alpha 3 is better than sex though
You and I remember Alpha 3 very differently.

In any case A2 > A3. Just ask any of the US vets.

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook
While I'm in this thread, does anyone play 3rd Strike on XBL? I need people to constantly play with instead of ranked. I learn in ranked but not being able to play against the same character multiple times hinders my learning.

Get over here!
I like mk better so I play mk. Sf is ok but I was never that into the look of the game like I was with mk

Name v.5.0

Iowa's Finest.
It has great mechanics and depth but I just dont see where the hype comes from. I watch the steams and I see people FREAKING out when a character does a sweep and then grabs the dude. It's weird how the most minor things do that for their scene.

To me it seems like MK2...Lots of 1 hit moves, and a few 3-6 hit combos that arent hype at all.

However, I REALLLLLLY dig the neutral game and spacing aspects of that game. There's a tension you can sense as the 2 combatants close in on each other.

My defensive game is pretty good, I can block for days in SF, soon as I have to actually attack back, I die.

I think Tekken is a friendlier game for NRS heads to get into, you can apply similar rules to it. It's also much fairer than every other fighting game I've seen. Takes forever to improve like you'd want to in SF, even if you know what you're looking for. In Tekken it can be applied easier.

Pretty much why I prefer A2 right there. Best damn SF game, IMO.

I'm going to re-order this post of yours because it actually reads perfectly...

There are always little combos going on, even if its just like something such as cr.MK ~ fireball. But the game has never felt like it's about big combos... we have Marvel and anime games for that. Still, there are hype moments when someone does a really big style combo that involves lots of 1-frame links.

It has great mechanics and depth but I just dont see where the hype comes from. I watch the steams and I see people FREAKING out when a character does a sweep and then grabs the dude. It's weird how the most minor things do that for their scene.
The mechanics and depth IS where the hype comes from! Opening someone up in Street Fighter is an art form, so when people are able to footsie their way into landing a sweep or a throw, that can certainly be a hype moment depending on the situation. Sometimes the yomi and footsies required to actually land a sweep on someone can be awesome to behold.

However, I REALLLLLLY dig the neutral game and spacing aspects of that game. There's a tension you can sense as the 2 combatants close in on each other.
You nailed it. This is what Street Fighter is all about. That tension is what makes every inch you take from someone - every sweep, every throw, every preemptive far standing HK you make on a read - so exciting.

Anyways, my two cents. =)
