Match-up Discussion Post-patch Match up List and Discussion

I still really don't fear Sinestro or Cyborg too much yet.

I actually feel really good with GL in the Cyborg matchup because his walk speed makes it feel easier to get around the projectiles to me. Chars with bad walk speed and far dashes seem like they end up running into the projectiles.
I think you haven't played a Cyborg that can fireball well to the point where you CANNOT move. That match-up is terrible because of that. And if you do get close Cyborg can grapple away from you, also Cyborg has decent wake-up options that will KNOCK you back! ALSO the fireballs do good chip and can come out frequently enough that you cant lame Cyborg out even if you get the life lead! ALSO Cyborg can use his meter for EX fireball if he gets into any kind of trouble and shoots TWO in the air that will knock you down!

The thing is, no matter how low someone shoots their IAFBs you can duck them and move in slowly. GL has a great walk speed which means getting in is actually way easier for him than certain chars with terrible walk speeds and far dashes that get caught by the next IAFB.

I'm not sure if you're an MK player but avoiding IAFBs the same way in that game was something you had to do VERY often. If you want a great example look at DJT vs REO, PL, or DetroitBalln in this year's Evo MK9 Top 8. If we play the cyborg match like that, it will be boring a require a lot of patience, but we technically shouldn't be getting hit by any fireballs (unless he uses meter to get himself like 2% chip)

What in the HELL am I supposed to do about MMH's Overhead Teleport... I am about FED up with it ... and ontop of not being able to punish it I SWEAR the Pulse Palm thing he has makes it a frame trap. Is this a 1-9 matchup for GL that is what it feels like...

make it whiff; it has no air hitbox so just jump back or forward. or do the zoidberg.

It has a lot of block stun but it's negative on block and he has to respect a b1 afterwards.

After running many sets with REO I'd say it's more or less even. Navigating his fullscreen zoning takes some getting used to though

so now im considering picking lantern against nightwing. can anyone explain how that match plays out?

Night wing should not be getting anywhere near you. He has no answer for well placed air rockets in either stance but especially staff.
This forces him to either attempt to out-lame you in escrima (which is difficult) or to try and get a knockdown with wingdings or EX wingdings and charge in.

If he does get to you, push block immediately which will put you back to the perfect range to control him with air rockets. Always save a bar for this reason.

It's easily in lanterns favor, all of NWs best tools are negated by air rocket

air rocket his ass to death. air rocket completely negates both his ground sparks so he can't counterzone you at all.

So I can Just see him go for Teleport ... Jump Back, hope he didn't do the ground one and not get hit? So I can Jump 1 or 2 that while he is up there then?

Mb b3 his dive kick on read. There are only two ways to reset him and if he knows them you are better off maximizing damage. Don't be predictable on air oa rocket or he will punish with jump dive kick. He is safe on a lot of moves and strings. Do not get cornered. And you can turbine relatively freely on him, only black magic and mb b3 can stop you from doing so and needs a read. His damage is stupid high, so it is advice able to wager early in his combos once you are lower than roughly 72% since he can do 50% in one combo with 1m. You are usually better off wagering even if he has slight meter advantage

I wouldn't call GL's walk speed great or even good for that matter, but I have a question, do you beat Cyborgs with GL who can IAFB well and consistently?

Good news, even if your having problems with cyborg, there are only 3 left lol. And since there are so few its near impossible to get matchup experience on him, otherwise it would have been marked 5/5 by now. And the question would have been asked how to deal with him by now.

zod could possibly be slight disadvantage in the future I think but for now it seems pretty even imo. Even MMH could be possible disadvantage in the future seems even too. Gl can fight anybody in this cast tho. I would be fine if he stayed the same the whole lifespan of this game.

The only reason cyborg beats gl is because he outzones him. But it could be even. its a very patient match. a lot of fight might come down to time out if played right.

I think any char that can outzone gl beats him now that I think about it. That's just my imo. Gl has no heavy disadvantage mus imo. all his matchups seem so close to even imo.

Denzell the only match that seems like it could be really bad imo is zatanna. But obviously it is way too early to tell. I agree, though, all of his matchups are very winnable. He is a very well rounded character
