This is ABSURD. I wear different clothes tomorrow, it doesn't mean I can jump higher. I paint my car a different color, it doesn't mean it can go faster. Different costumes are so we don't get sick of staring at our characters. How is this argument even happening right now?

Not for kano, his changes were made in a hotfix so they can easily change his shit, but cyrax and smoke need an actual title update to fix, not sure about noob.

The more and more I play this game and the more and more I read threads like this really makes me wanna trade this game in and save the money for Acade Kollection or Third Strike.

if getting OTG smoke bombed by randoms online would persuade you to drop/get rid of the game, well there is a 99.9% chance that you won't be missed in the competitive scene.

how does banning an alt skin = smash bros? rofl

what in the hell does a secondary version of a character have to do with painting a car? worst analogy ever.

waking up to these ridiculous responses has been the best gift i've gotten from the internet in a long time. on a more serious note, if you don't have reasonable input or the ability to put an opposing argument into a coherent post, please just refrain from posting in here.

I like this idea, like the OP said, just have the option to ban the 3rd skins in tournaments.

I'd use them as counterpicks. XD
This is exactly why this should not happen. The characters were fixed before because they were broken. The less of this broken stuff left in the game, the better.

Before I realised the Cyrax alternate costume still had the bomb trap, I played a guy using it, and wondered why I was getting caught in traps. Now I know why. I gues it's an achievement that I beat him while he had the old bomb trap but I wouldn't play online if I thought I was going to have to put up with stupid stuff like that every time I went on to get a few games in.

Seriously, I paid for this stuff, and I didn't pay with the intention of having all the unpatched stuff come back.

Your idea would make 80% of people drop the game altogether, would hurt the general community and in the end make MK9 just die quicker and lose even more credibility as a serious competitive fighter.

It wouldn't add any replay value whatsoever. It would just add a bunch of useless and retarded matchups/gimmicks that don't even matter in the end because they're banned from tourneys.

So who would benefit from this? Just scrubs with no skill and no one else. No serious player would waste time trying out an old version of Kitana, Kung Lao or Cyrax that's not even permitted in any tournaments.

Now stop being a dick and just accept the fact that your idea sucks. :)

I don't think it was a bad analogy. It was about the only thing that makes sense in this thread. Alternate costumes are purely aesthetic. Like he said, painting the same car(character) a different color(costume) doesn't(or rather shouldn't) change what's under the hood.

This wouldn't help the community or the game, like Vulcan said. All this would do is splinter the community and cause an inconsistent playing experience. NRS patched that shit out for a reason. They felt it was a big enough balance problem to change. I doubt they intended or want these problems to persist in the form of an alternate costume.

Having different properties with a costume is okay, having stuff that was intentionally removed via a patch or hotfix is not okay.

BlazBlue has intentionally broken versions of every char in the game...how is that game broken because of it? Its an intentionally "broken" feature to have fun with and experiment to see the potential of chars. Its not an embedded brokenness that makes the game overall unplayable.

Obviously if you wanna play more "seriously" whether on a night of online or a big tournament, you dont play them. And, if sum1 keeps picking them when playing online, you simply stop playing them or request they stop picking those versions.

Not difficult ppl. It reminds of ppl who actually think games are easier nowadays becuase you can CHOOSE to make it easier or harder on yourself.

Also, I really like that idea of the first two costumes having different functionality from one another, as long as its balanced and its horizontal step from the 1st costume.

For example, lets say 1st cyrax cant teleport like human cyrax, but has more net recovery, and things like that. This way we can see with a longer period of time what works and what doesnt for each char, what needs buffing and what needs nerfing, cause now we would have two intentionally unbroken versions of chars to investigate and analyze, and one intentionally broken vesrion to see the positive/negative potential of that chars general style of play.

At the end of the day, you ban 80% of the cast, the video game doesnt own you, its the players's choice what to do with w/e version of the char there is.

^ Should be a game mode imo.

1. MK9 regular / tournament mode

2. MK9 for LULZ trololol mode

Shouldn't force anyone to deal with dumb shit if they don't want to.

Do you really think the vast majority of people online are going to stop using their broken costumes because I ask them nicely? Once the word gets around, you're going to have a lot of people using the old Cyrax bomb trap online since online is the only option for a lot of people.

That's absolutely wonderful because now lots of us have to deal with that just for somebody to have fun with their broken costume. It's so braindead.

I will reiterate, I, and a lot of others, pay to play online, and we also paid for the DLC. We shouldn't be punished for this by being the lab rats for stuff that was already deemed broken. How does it make any sense for that to be the case?

Cmon Lobo. You're a smart guy, you're articulate on these internet series of tubes and by extension, that most likely holds true in the real world. I've read your posts in other threads, your concise and make very good points. But how in the hell are YOU gonna call people out for unreasonable posts or flat out attack their coherence when YOU began a ridiculous thread to begin with?

I stand by my original post and I don't think I can break it down any further than it is already, seeing as how I made it as easy to understand as possible. Try not to trip, I say all this with respect.

It doesnt seem to be a problem for BlazBlue. Like I said if they decline your request just stop playing that person. I played sum1 in BlazBlue once, he picked unlimited Ragna. I ttook the loss and "no unlimiteds plz". I played him again, I picked Normal Ragna he picked unlimited again and I disc;d, then the host kicked him out. Not hard at all.

R u guys at least open to the first two costumes having different but balanced properties? To widen what we can see from each char.

well at least there are some decent counterpoints here...finally. why would 80% of players drop the game? lol. did including original versions of characters or akuma in super turbo kill the game? did tossing broken ass boss characters in tekken 5 kill the game? did U. rugal and shin akuma kill CvS? did overpowered alts in BB kill the game? nope, all that any of these things did was add replay value. even serious players get bored and want LOL broken things to mess around with at the end of the day. i've been nothing but reasonable here. if i wanted to be a dick i'd say something like, "i bet 9/10 of the people posting in this thread and playing online wouldn't even notice" and i would be right. :p

it seems to me that the biggest...actually the only legitimate complaints about leaving the third skins alone are, "but random scrubs online might use them and beat me!" and, "but i want to use ____ skin in a tournament!"

to which my response is this;

A: stop playing randoms over and over online, especially the ones who use 'mock' characters, since it is such serious business. play with your friends. test things out waste time. muck around and have a good time. troll noobs. that is what online is for; not getting mad about losing to people you don't even know in the lag or tarnishing a meaningless record that either says "i only play scrubs" or "i actually think this makes me good". i, for one, get almost no pleasure from playing online, yet i do it anyway out of boredom because i love the game. i consider myself a serious player as i go to and host multiple offline sessions every week to practice, and i know many others like me who would have a blast online ROFLing and trying to take down my EN.fan looping kitana with bomb trap cyrax.

B: stop pretending that a different skin is gonna make you not go 0-2 in a tournament.

and bam. problem solved. why can't the rest of us have something more that is interesting and fun to play around with...especially when it is already there? why is it a bad thing to request that we get to keep them in addition to the 'fixed' versions?

Also we dont even know if that was made ON PURPOSE (leave post patch changes) on those characters.

One thing I KNOW FOR F***NG SURE:

I dont want pre patch Kung Lao hat loops/teleport infs back.

And to the reference to Smash: I made it cause putting a ruleset/ban on a game that is so new is stupid IMO.

you act as if you paid for an online pass for the sole purpose of beating on casual scrubs online, or as if the game forces you to play random opponents online, meaning you solely play ranked lag matches. if either of these things are true, then your concerns are legitimate and unfortunately leaving them in the game will probably ruin your experience. i don't see how that could be a good experience in the first place, though, so the argument is kind of moot.

Since the UMK3 skin for Cyrax came out I've already played THOUSANDS of people using the costume because of the bomb trap. I don't want to play Thousands of people using MK2 Smoke because he has an OTG smoke bomb. This thread and this idea is stupid. Its bad enough we have to deal with the horrible online now we have to deal with charecters with different properties for each costume. Its ridiculous. I shouldn't have to be punished or rewarded just because I used a different costume from somebody else. There is no reason to have 3 different Cyrax's, 2 different Noobs, and 2 different smokes in a tier list. This was just lazy and unprofessional on NRS part and now you're asking them not to fix thier misstakes?

RamenO

In BlazBlue those versions of the characters aren't costumes, and you can select whether or not those versions are even selectable online. No one used them anyway, because they were overpowered and useless at the end of the day. Can't use them in tournaments, and no one would bother playing you if you had them available. Think about that as well. If no one played you with them available BY CHOICE, who the hell would want to play MK9 online when it's completely up in the air if someone wanted to use bomb trap Cyrax, or OTG Smoke bomb.

This makes absolutely no sense. The current characters we have(i.e. the patched versions) are the direct result of what needed to be buffed/nerfed based on the bugged alternate costumed variants we have now. There is essentially no reason to have those different versions using your "investigate" logic, because we already figured out what was over the top. If you really wanted to figure out what works and doesn't work, use the current ones.

Also, a majority of people play online to do just that. Play randoms, casually. If you wanted to play with friends, then chances are, you'd play with them in an offline setting. Unless you're talking about people on your PSN or XBL friends list. In which case, how did you end up meeting in the first place? I'd venture to guess randomly.

Those things they patched out are essentially things that could make you go 0-2 in a tournament. It was a balance issue.

One thing that is being overlooked, is how this affects matchup knowledge. I play a majority of my matches online because I don't know my local community that well. I don't want my matchup knowledge to be tainted because I kept going against someone who was using something that isn't useable in a tournament setting.

Exactly, that kind of variable bullshit shouldn't be tolerated in MK. Costumes are there to make looking at a character less boring, changing up the entire game just to have "teh lulz" is idiotic. Although balance has become a joke to many top competitors, why not keep it the same as before when everything was as close to normal as could be?

Jesus christ quit acting like everyone sucks ass at tournaments and online play is garbage. Its obvious that you want these bugs/glitches left in the game for your own personal gain.

Im getting so tired of some of the uppity assholes on here who do nothing but bash the online community simply because we dont goto tournaments or dont have others to play with. Quit acting so high and mighty just because you can drive to a venue to play a video game. It doesnt make you any better than the online warriors or the casual players.

You are seriously asking for the game to be left broken. Being broken is the main problem this game has in the tournament scene. You really want to show up on stream exploiting things that were taken out of the game months ago? IMO, that makes you less of a player than any online warrior.

If we leave Cyrax bomb trap and Smoke OTG, just let Reptiles MK1 keep his EX-Force ball glitch too! Thats fair isnt it?! That will really make the game exciting! Dont you just love getting hit by invisible projectiles that stay on screen? I sure as hell do.

When It takes me up to 20-30 minutes to just FIND AN OPPONENT to play online, then they pick Cyrax MK3, you seriously think I can just quit and go find another opponent? Fuck that. There is absolutely no reason to keep these bugs in other than to please your own personal agenda.

Some of us aren't fortunate enough to live or go somewhere that has a scene. Some of us can only play and support this game by playing online(as horrible as it is). Alts costumes were not and should not ever be designed to give one version of a charecter an advantage over the other. They're just for looks and looks only. NRS made thes alts and previous versions of the game never updated them and released them to the public. That is bullshit. Sure you can just ban them in tournament play but if a game has so much stuff banned from tournament play wouldn't that make it look bad? C'mon you can't just say "oh, its not a problem for tournamnet players we'll just ban it and for online players all they have to do is not play the persson using the costume." Online players shouldn't have to take steps back and relearn how to deal with something that already fixed.

Leave my new and improved top tier Cyrax alone biatches!

P.S If you're reading this NRS, Make me another Cyrax costume with a death trap so I can replace my bomb trap.
