Sonya is an interesting character this time through for MKX. I know a lot of people aren't feeling her, but I honestly feel like this Sonya is going to be awesome, mainly because it seems like her cookie cutter attributes have been toned down and we'll be seeing a more engaging, nuanced Sonya Blade.
I think her greater focus on military technology is long overdue considering her identity so I love the addition of the drones for potential zoning, oki, rushdown and what not that they hinted at/discussed a bit during her breakdowns.
I'm very excited to experiment with Special Forces and Covert Ops in particular. Demolition (despite having the coolest name) is the least interesting to me of the three, even with my being a fanboy of Stryker's grenades, the idea of having to reload after using three every time is a bit curious to me. Are the grenades that strong to warrant that? Nobody can answer that, but I'm very curious to see how people utilize these grenades.
I also think the fact she kept nearly all of her specials (sans Kiss and cartwheel) from MK9 as universals is awesome: Energy rings, arc kick, leg grab, and air dive.
I like what i've seen so far of Sonya, she looks like she has some really fun fighting styles. In the stream they really didn't show off many of her normals or strings, she might have some big improvements in that area compared to MK9.
It's hard to really tell what has happened with Military Stance or how useful it will be in this game, at first glance though it doesn't look as useful as it was in MK9. I hope she still has a respectable D4. I have a feeling there might be additional options out of Military Stance and I wonder if any of those options are EX'able?
She looks good to me, but for different reasons. I am interested in the commandable drone fighting style.
I think that having a fighting style that is very counter/parry heavy could be really useful in certain matchups, but I generally attribute those styles with having to take a lot of risk. Hopefully she can frame-trap which will make parry'ing more useful.
I was actually thinking for covert ops if she happens to have good mids/pressure strings coupled with parries will just amplify her rushdown game overall and maybe military stance cancels are plus as well.
Then I'm guessing her MS grab is overhead and she has the low MS option, cartwheel and maybe some more useful, unknown MS options. So potentially the return of overhead/low mix ups from MS, combo starter from it and maybe more good options seems like pretty legit utility in my opinion, but yeah it's all just speculation and educated guesses at this point.
Any character that has to get in to fight her will potentially have issues in Covert ops possibly.
