oh sure, there's just the dominion war, the borg, the razor thin relations with the romulan empire. It's peachy

Oh there's danger to be sure...at least if you're in a Starship out on the frontlines. I know Earth isn't completely spotless when it comes to these matters and the federation sure seems pretty incompetent at stopping people who want to get through their defense grid, but it still seems like there's usually not a huge amount of danger if you're living on earth or something. Even if they blow earth up they'll just do some timey whimey temporal wake bullshit and fix it.
