I'm not into 3d gaming, so no on the 3d question. Also, tourneys cant be held on PC because TOs would have to have tons of PCs available for every setup which would be UNGODLY expensive, not to mention the level of expertise required to troubleshoot every single one of them in the event that something goes wrong.

CPU: Intel i7-5930k (overclocked to 4.4Ghz right now... could push it further if I wanted)
CPU cooling: Corsair H100i closed water loop
Motherboard: ASUS x99 deluxe
Memory: 16GB Corsair LPX PC2800
Vid card: EVGA Nvidia 980GTX
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB drive for OS/a few games
HDD: 2TB Western Digital Black for storage
Monitor: ASUS VG248qe - Replaced the old evo asus monitor
Good choice on that monitor. It's fucking incredible. I love mine

Under budget and it's a beast of a machine. I couldn't get the optical drives list to load for me here at work so I didn't include one here so the price will go up and that amount will depend on if you choose a blu-ray drive or not. Also, since you already own the GTX 970, that will bring the cost of this down by about $350. I only included the card for your reference

I also included an operating system but I've never payed for an OS........

I put a solid state drive in there that is 64 GB's so that you can throw your OS on there as well as your most frequently used programs (MKX) for fast as fuck load times. Then I also put a 1TB 7200 RPM HDD for storage. 7200 RPM is still plenty fast for an HDD.

I threw some peripherals in there that are really awesome, however, if the only game you are planning to play on it is MK, you can cut back on those a bit. Yet, I still HIGHLY recommend that monitor. 144Hz is just the smoothest shit I've ever seen.

The mouse is really good for playing FPS games if you ever choose to do so. It's a very accurate mouse and is fairly cheap. Also, it feels like the old school intellimouse in your hand which is probably the best shape of a mouse ever made.

Keyboard is a solid mechanical keyboard. While mechanical keyboards aren't necessary, once you type on one, everything else just feels like dogshit in comparison.

Sorry for the wall of text... I get excited over this shit.

Nice setup. Any specific reason you don't like 3d? Personally, I'm waiting on the 3d TV's that don't require glasses. Like the ones shown at CES this year.

And when it comes to true photo-realistic visuals that concern game play, some think we are on the verge of seeing it's implementation and in consumers hands within about 5-10 years time. Real time ray-tracing engines like Brigade will make this possible. We are getting closer all the time by the looks of it.

I guess it's not so much that I don't like 3d. It's more that I just don't care and it's pretty expensive. I mainly just play fighting games with the occasional action RPG/MMORPG. Maybe someday.

I spent about 1200 on my build this past year. A couple of the guys from the /r/buildapc subreddit made this site:

http://www.logicalincrements.com

They update it every week or two. Pretty nice resource. I basically copy+pasted a build from there, changed to a different case and ram, posted my build parts to the subreddit for a 'pre-build check' and got the all clear from the gurus there. Ordered and assembled following the Newegg three part "how to build a computer" videos (part 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw )

I watched the vids all the way through and then assembled step by step on the second viewing. It 8 months later and I haven't had a single problem. I had no experience assembling computers prior to this.
Ah, that makes sense. That's cool dude. If you need any help on the PC build, let me know. Helping people build PC's is my thing!
Thanks guys I'll probably definitely hit u guys up and try those videos

Hey I was just looking at this and looks awesome but why i5 not i7

Hey I was just looking at this and looks awesome but why i5 not i7
I put the i5 in there because the i5's will perform just as well as the i7's for gaming and most other things. i7's have hyperthreading which will make things like rendering and transcoding a bit better, however, the technology in i5's has advanced to the point that it won't affect that many people. You will still be able to make videos or stream or anything along those lines very well.

If you were trying to render a YouTube video for upload while playing MKX and watching a stream all at the same time, then you would need to go with i7 but that just doesn't seem reasonable. The i5's can handle just about everything that the i7's can but at about a $100 discount!
