Mortal Kombat 9 Ranting Thread

Haha... Shady I feel like typing up what you just said all the time. Somehow I get sucked back into trying to play online again and again, only to be followed by yet another emotional breakdown. Good luck to you, I hope you don't relapse.

PS - Seriously, sometimes I can't help but think i'm the ONLY one getting the lag as bad as I do... then I see something like this thread, and in a way it makes me feel a little better haha. At least someone else gets it.

I think I'm going to restrict my online play to maybe 1 or 2 days a week and only in private matches with people I know are good and I know I can connect to usually.... (You know who you are guys :)).

the lag does not bother me so much (ive learned to live with it)

the damn negative edge has cost me way more fights then lag any day

now combine negative edge with the lag and i feel ya 100% man i really do.

Don't take online seriously. When I lose I say GG and move on. If it was laggy, oh well, it's the risk you take for playing online.

It's a combination of things, not just the lag. Like, usually, "oh well, it was laggy, whatever." What gets me is that online is also full of little retards who tea-bag or send you a message after winning in that madness thinking that they're actually good. As a competitive person I often take it more seriously than I ever should. But when those kids talk shit it just eats me up. So that's like I said, restricting my online play to less and only against good people in private now. Everyone else gets to fuck off (obviously no one on TYM EDIT: Except maybe for the above guy. How original a quick .jpeg answer to a post. We're all paying attention to you now, maybe even someone can get you a cookie. You've got comedic talent. :p).

this, although I have learned to reduce accidental negative edge.

Shady oh Shady I feel you bro. It sucks hard to lose to someone that you know should have lost, and when they rub it in its even worse. But alas I cannot give up on MK online. I love it too much. Despite its faults and flaws, there are great matches to be had. I'm in the middle of nowhere so offline play is out of the question. Plus something can be said for some intense matches at 4 am in your underwear. When you feel the rage, turn off the xbox, do something else for a while and come back to it when the urge strikes you. For me the fun far outweighs the rage.

But on another note, patch the fucking online NRS NAO!!!!

Try playing characters with easy execution. It helps out. I personally vowed not to play Cage and Kabal online (especially Kabal) since they require good execution. Try characters like Sub Zero, Noob, etc.

im pretty much forced to play online because my local scene is non-existent. however I am lucky enough to have a handful of solid players w/ nice connections on my friends list so lag doesnt really bother me that much.

but when i am searching for random opponents, AKA Xbox live hell, the following makes me rage:

1) long waits when searching for a player match
2) people who look at my record and decline... in particular, scrubs who have "good records" and are afraid to lose
3) people who apparently turn on MK, go into player match search, and then go to the mall or to the movies or wherever the F they go. why are so many people AFK?
4) sooooo... mannnnyyy .... f*cking.... DC's. I could give a shit less about my record, but it's just silly the amount of people who DC right before a loss
5) random as F desyncs

its funny i saw this thread before bed because my experience tonight was absolutely absurd. I literally sat there for an hour+ watching people decline matches. When I finally found an opponent that was willing to play the game (imagine that)... the game desync'd or the person would DC just before "finish him".

It's good that you're planning on starting to go to tournaments and such, but I think you have the completely wrong frame of mind when playing online. Blame it on your competitive nature all you want, but taking online seriously all the time is just a silly thing to do. I've found that playing with friends and local people like you said to be a much better experience in general anyway, and it does allow you to be a bit more competitive. On the other hand, I've never in my life had lag as bad as you've described it, not even playing with people on the other side of the world.

Who hired this guy, WTF?
When I went to ECT3, I thought I was going to get destroyed by the typical used characters that destroy me online.

I placed 13th, Performing 3 babalities (Sub-Zero, Mileena, and Kano) out of my 7 matches (went 5-2) and got flawless victories (even in the matches that I lost). I was surprised how different it is and I now take online play with a grain of salt...

I still rage hardcore on occasion, its so annoying online with the input delay. If you play a character like Johnny Cage, you have to be precise with so many things and its just degrading when you get defeated by someone who gets the upperhand by zoning.

I play video games to relax, wind down, but because of my competitive nature, shit like this happening doesn't let me do so. So the only reasonable answer is to get the fuck offline of here before I earn myself a heart attack.
You should play Minecraft. Probably the most relaxing, soothing and addicting game there is. But a surprise Creeper may give you a heart attack too... so maybe play on peaceful mode.

This is basically where I'm at. To be honest, I think the biggest issue is that you're trying to use Kabal online. He has a really hard time cutting through the lag. It's always nice to have a fallback character incase the connection is ass; I usually go to Ermac. Still, when I lose to something scrubby, I try to just shrug and think "Whatever, it's online, your shitty Raiden wouldn't be winning offline because the teleport is so much easier to punish".

...Of course, actively bitching to vent your frustrations doesn't hurt either, so I still do my share of that.

After my performace at ECT3, I too realized there was a difference with online and offline.
But being an online regular, I realize there's an online vs offline exaggeration.
Offline player's seem to hold some false prestige that anything online means ABSOLUTELY nothing, and that they're automatically elite in comparison.
Truth is online is a good medium, but what changes is the consistantly clean gameplay and tactics that you use.
You can't do the same things, because certain aspects of online don't apply.

Don't let go of online because of some raging moments.
Find a circle of friends to play with, or some players who you have better connections with.
Play casually, your goal should never be to win, when online. But to learn and drill, for future matches offline.
I was scared going into ECT3, and ended up placing 17th out of 137 people.
Online helped me, because I used it as a practice medium.

People are always going to talk, and run their mouth.
Until they meet you at a offline casual, don't let them get to you.

Damn Shady what!!! It's weird online for me, I'll win almost 90% of matches vs people with 37+ true rank and lose to someone who has 20 with a record of 45-60, lose to the most random ass shit you can possibly think of due to lag and input delay, it's just something I've learned to deal with.

It's so true. I always lose to you and your up ball/X-ray shenanigans. :hump:

I'll get you next time. :duel:

It's so weird man. I actually get more angry when I play SSF4 and that game is virtually lagless lol.

Maybe it's because I win more often at MK9 haha.

:(
Yeah, it may be because you can lose more often to randomness in SSF4, at least in my experience. One great thing about MK games, at least imo, is that there's less randomness and a bigger skill gap between the skill level of players. The skill gap part may not be true for MK9 specifically, but it's definitely the case in regards to UMK3. But I feel in SSF4, sometimes you will lose because of the game mechanics and features rather than because your opponent is truly better or outplayed you. That's the only thing I can reason considering I too rage more when I play SSF4, and I've heard many many others say the same.

Didn't mean to derail the thread here, but that's probably what will happen with my response to this post, lol.
