Because factions are for players. Repeated many times. Lin Kuei is a very popular clan in MK story. It's obvious.

I didn't mean to question if LK is worthy of being a faction, actually. That's my faction! I'm planning to Kotally rock LK at release. My only point was to try to talk through why the factions are not more reflective of the characters in game, IF this is the real final list. Which I'm still on the fence about.

I was hoping, when they released the names of the factions, that we would get a wider selection of people who would embody those factions as playable at release. I posted earlier in this thread that I'm good with that list, and that hasn't changed. It makes a lot of sense. But it irks me that the factions are not more linked to the story somehow. And they might be, after all. What we saw in the story trailer was only a really unspecific part of a much larger situation, given the hints in the comic and elsewhere. 6 weeks till release. We'll find out what's going on soon enough.

A clearer example of why I'm irked: As characters I'm not really interested in playing Shinnok or Quan Chi, though I like them. I was hoping for at least a third option that genuinely reflected that faction. At this point the Brotherhood of Shadow faction makes the least sense to me when we don't have an outworld faction to join as well.

Yea it prolly is b.s..But interesting..Buut on the 2nd page..Some interesting things are said "Rain was big in story mode" and you see Kotal Kahn get drop kicked by em lol.JC+Sonya DLC fit the idea of klassic kombatant title.Says something about resurrect shang tsung aka sindel..And Quan Chi controlling characters..Which was seen in the trailer..Buuuuuut I am sure I am reaching..lol..

You know what? He also say this: "Sub-Zero recupera el Lin Kuei y tiene un fuerte enfrentamiento con Sektor" and in the new trailer we discover he is the new grand master (not totally confirmed but a safe bet). So.....

Yea who knows..Kinda makes sense to have 2 sub-zero in too..A lot of ppl thought this. And in the story line use a change of costume to identify em..And easy way to kill off noob..

IIRC, Boon deconfirmed other list some time ago, so the "don't comment on guesses" isn't very true, unless he is speaking about himself, which could be totally acceptable.

Been wondering that myself. Is the person on the tower who you fight or who you fight as? Remember the tower in MK9 only had a handful of scenarios that you selected your character for. Though I get that these towers are completely different, it's still an honest question. I could see a lot of fighters showing up in the tower who aren't playable, considering that non-playable main cast have shown up for challenges in a lot of mk games.

Yes, but to me the all codename thing overturn the leak, plus he mentions Tanya, BoRaiCho, Tremor, Frost and Li Mei as playable while Cage and sonya as dlc. But who knows really, all will be confirmed in april 14th.

What's "an easy way out" with the roster? Having popular characters on it? It seems like many people just want to be hipsters for the sake of doing so around here. These are extremely popular characters, two of them are originals while the other is well...the black guy.

Would Goro being playable constitute "an easy way out"? How about all the new characters? Is that an easy way out? I mean by the above logic having Scorpion and Sub Zero on the roster is an easy way out.

People just won't be happy unless they get exactly who they want. Also, keep in mind, if this roster is indeed true, then Johnny Cage, Sonya and Jax play an important role in the story, and are more than likely needed to give Jacqui and Cassie more character development and background so that people accept them easier. Imagine how much people would be pissed if Cage, Sonya and co were a major part of the story but weren't playable.

I'm not being "a hipster for the sake of doing so" I'm saying it's extremely redundant to have a descendant of two popular characters, give them a trait from both Sonya, and Johnny Cage; and then still shoehorn in both Sonya and Johnny. Those to spots that would be taken by them could easily go to a new character, or someone who doesn't have a descendant we know of like Rain or Shinnok. Goro technically isn't even part of the main roster considering you more or less have to pay $5 dollars for him so that argument is moot. There is most definitely an easy way out, it's copying and pasting even more characters that we've played for the last 20 years onto something that could go above and beyond that.

Also; having Scorpion and Sub-Zero is not taking the easy way out because they are the poster-boys for the whole franchise. When I ask someone what they think of when they think "Mortal Kombat" what do they say? "Oh yeah! Scorpion! GET OVER HERE!" not "YOU GOT CAGED."

- "Klassik DLC characters" smells like Smoke, Baraka, Sektor etc.
Not THAT iconic to create a huge backlash ( like if it was Raiden, Subzero, Kitana) but important and beloved enough to bring extra $$$

- You have to understand relatives won't be similar gameplaywise. Pls give a break to the creators. They are artists as well, not only a company of profit. The idea of bringing new characters through the family concept is much more solid, interesting and successful than a second round of Dairou, Darius, Kobra, Kira and such.

- lol @ people who think Erron black might not be playable.

- Wish no more characters lose their existence through hybrid models like Kitana/ Jade

- Why nobody ever mentions Kabal? like he never existed. I'm pretty sure the whole world was full of Kabals by the end of 2012

- The argument of characters who were interesting but failed to get popular because of bad games must stop. They had their chance.The games where they'been a part of had their chances. But… These games ( so their characters) didn't have the "Star". Simple as that.
Mortal Kombat is a pop icon again, and X is the greatest opportunity for new solid and staple characters. Kotal Kahn is one of them

Nope they aren't challenge towers, they are regular arcade ladders.

I asked myself as well, I think it's because no one cares about Kabal. It was the case on mk9 until people figured out he was god tier. Before he was under-used.

Yes that's how torch passing games go. Would you rather them good the SCV route? Look how that turned out. Talking about redundancy yet people want every pallete swapped ninja. Just because they are related doesn't mean they play the same.

Fujin is great. And he will succeed Raiden as Protector of Earth.

I think Reiko is a must. It would be great if he's playable, but I see him as a non-playable boss too. Fine by me.
