The TYM Status Update Thread

Kudos to which ever mod(s) got rid of status updates.

I like that the forums have a slight increase in activity now and people who you wouldn't see normally posting are now posting.

If you care so much about status updates, then there's always facebook.

My status: Drinking eggnog with a strip of caramelized bacon as a stirrer. Christmas, baby. <3

I have to try my eggnog that way!

Sometimes status updates are legit important issues that don't warrant creating a thread about but don't want to post and have it get lost in the shuffle in some other threads.
Personally, I have never seen this be an issue.

If it's a hot enough or important enough topic, it tends stay on the list of recently updated forum threads because there's an active discussion that is ongoing. Again, that's been my experience anyway.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
@STRYKIE So I noticed that TYM extended the character limit for status updates. Now I can become anything I want, I'll start with Kung Lao.

Can someone please explain the rationale behind this? I know the staff has a "this is our site, we don't have to explain anything" thing going, but you know, we tend to spend a lot of time on your site so it'd be nice to know.

Is TYM trying to take the fun aspect out? Between off topic threads and status updates, that's the only possible explanations.

If the idea is status updates can sometimes be stupid/insulting or whatever, is it really that hard to moderate them the way you would any other post? It makes no sense.

Sometimes status updates are legit important issues that don't warrant creating a thread about but don't want to post and have it get lost in the shuffle in some other threads. Even things like asking for games in PSN or Xbox Live is pretty important. After all, isn't that why we're here?

I don't know what's happening to this place, but if that's the "changes are coming" we've been hearing about for a couple of months, well, they suck.
Dude, I've tried and tried to advise. This is the dumbest crap since removing tapatalk functionality. Ugh. I could run a better site than this. I screamed and screamed... but nobody cares.

The administrator of this site just simply doesn't give a shit and couldn't even be bothered to back the site up.

While typing this post... I notice that when writing posts... random characters are getting lost again. Great.

By the way, anyone really alluding to status updates being random, bad, uninformative, drama-filled, provocative, or whatever, I say: ...as opposed to regular TYM posts?

Anyway, Storms said status updates will be back. Hopefully soon.

I believe that the Status Update widget isn't compatible with both the new version of our portal plugin and the current version of the forum. So until a compatibility update is made or the forum software itself is updated, it just flat-out doesn't work.

That's my guess, but I suppose I'll find out or someone will explain sooner or later.

Saying "I dont like this change" and "This is the worst decision TYM has ever made" is a big difference.

Also you can still see status updates by hitting the recent activity button at the top of the page.
Except I didn't say this is the worst decision TYM has ever made. I said it's the worst among the recent poor decisions TYM has made, surpassing the "off topic" threads not appearing on the main page. There's a big difference and it's hardly an overreaction.

I know some now have an obligation to be the positive level-headed posters but reacting to any sort of criticism with "here we go again" is silly.
