I love majoras mask. I loved ocarina of time and then I played majoras mask and it was just like ocarina of time plus awesome weirdness and I just thought it was so awesome. I got every single mask. I actually want to go replay it now lol.

I actually prefer single player games. The only multiplayer games I play are fighting games. Trying to think of some of my favorites over the past gen:

Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia
Xbox: KOTOR and Splinter cell games
GC: I preorderd Wind Waker so I got the LOZ collection with that and played all the games on their. Was a bit miffed they did not have a Link to the Past on there.
Xbox 360: Bioware RPGs: Mass effect and Dragon Age.
Playstation: Resident Evil Games

As far as answering the actual question, it's very difficult to narrow down to one single game. If I had a gun to my head and I had to spout off one game right now...

Maniac Mansion, NES and PC.

KOTOR! An absolute classic RPG with some of the best writing to ever make it into a video game. I played it when I was pretty young and it was the first game to leave a pit in my stomach when I had finished.

I REALLY wanted to get into BG2 since I had heard so much about it. I got it off gog and made it like a third of the way through but something kept me from finishing it and I can't quite put my finger on it. I really enjoyed the huge number of quests, the writing was pretty good, the dialogue between the characters was fun, but certain things like constantly having to scan for traps and my unfamiliarity with the combat system made certain things a huge chore. I'm probably just spoiled by modern gaming...

same here i remember stressin out wit my shitty chars tryin to finish BG 2 , think ill try buy them again hehe

Yup, I have around 50 hours played and I'm only like 25% completed with the main/overall story. The game is massive, the gameplay is satisfying, the depth is rewarding, and the story is fulfilling!

Loved these type of games. Remember Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (by the same studio)? Loved that one too

Fundamentals in real life
my top five of all time:
1. MGS 1 to 3- excellent story,good plot,soundtrack,you could really feel the ``tatical espionage´´ word in the game,this game tought me how to think and improvise before shooting.
2. Devil May Cry 1 to 4- Sick soundtrack,story,game mechanics with lightning speed inputs at high level,the characters skills variations are endless if you're creative enuff
3. Prince of Persia(warrior within,the two towers)-this baby taught me how to beat any single player game,made me see that puzzles in a game are definition of challenge.
4. Splinter Cell(all but my favorite is Double Agent and Blacklist)- Espionage at its finest,patience,skill,improvisation,timing,team up,etc,etc...next to MGS this game make me feel like a Jason Bourne.
5. Resident Evil-alltough the essence of ``survival and horror´´ of the game faded away,it was my favorite survival game till code veronica back in the days.

Sorry if I'm derailing the thread but why not just limit it so only one off-topic thread can show up on the recent threads at a time or something? Completely hiding them from the recent threads seems really dumb to me.

Lord.... it's literally impossible for me to pick a single game. Bioshock, Dead Space, Tomb Raider 1, 2 and Reboot, REmake, Resident Evil 2, Uncharted 2, Arkham Asylum, etc. all have something that I find incredibly nostalgic, fun, and/or engrossing.
