How is over 300 people with no pot bonus "don't wanna travel"? That doesn't even make sense.I don't know why people are still surprised that people don't wanna travel for Injustice.
Nice to see decent numbers for KI, too bad about doge though.

Honestly the fact that kof has more than us is disturbing. That game is in its 4th evo....How is over 300 people with no pot bonus "don't wanna travel"? That doesn't even make sense.
I think people who are less familiar with the KoF community sleep on the fact that EVO is big deal for KoF every year, even though they have lower entrants at majors. EVO is always a showcase for the international KoF community and they had 433 last year, which is a good showing.Honestly the fact that kof has more than us is disturbing. KOF13 is the biggest fucking mystery to me.Honestly the fact that kof has more than us is disturbing. That game is in its 4th evo....
KOF13 is the biggest fucking mystery to me.
Not that many people REALLY played it to begin with, there are almost no tournaments for it anymore, and it hasn't had an update in four years, yet it gets insane numbers at Evo for some reason.
I mean there were 34 people for KOF13 at CEO, vs 80 for Injustice, yet they have this many people at Evo?
Even back at the old MLG Anaheim, we got like 90 people for MK and they only had 30...
I really have no idea...
Yeah but our entrants numbers should be higher than kof (especially since our community has grown with igau). Either way it will be up to the players attending to make sure this evo is our most exciting tournament yetI think people who are less familiar with the KoF community sleep on the fact that EVO is big deal for KoF every year, even though they have lower entrants at majors. This is mainly because most of the top KoF players don't live in the states. They are from Asia and Mexico. That's why it's always a much bigger deal when everybody flies in for EVO to play each other.KOF13 is the biggest fucking mystery to me.

They pretty much always come out for EVO. Most of their players are from Central and South America as well so they have to travel a long ways just to go to EVO.KOF13 is the biggest fucking mystery to me.

Yeah, but there's a limit to how much the numbers should realistically jump when internationals come in.This is mainly because a lot of the top KoF players don't live in the states. They are from Asia and Mexico. That's why it's always a much bigger deal with everybody flies in from EVO.
I think Reynald may be the only US player who's placed Top 8 in the couple of years KoF has been at EVO.
Mexico is NA btwThey pretty much always come out for EVO. Most of their players are from Central and South America as well so they have to travel a long ways just to go to EVO.
Most of their player base are internationals though. There just isnt that big of a scene in the U.S.Yeah, but there's a limit to how much the numbers should realistically jump when internationals come in.
I mean IGAU usually gets close to 100 so for Evo we about tripled our numbers.
KOF has like TEN TIMES their normal numbers. That means that for every KOF player at a major, there are NINE at home that only want to play against internationals. That seems a little bit much to me.
Thats not what they teach us in north americaMexico is NA btw
Yeah but it's hard to believe that hundreds of internationals are flying out just for Evo.Most of their player base are internationals though. There just isnt that big of a scene in the U.S.
Edit:
Yeah my bad, Mexico still international comp. though.
It makes a difference when only one tournament gets decent numbers for a game, gives incentive for that community to save up and all go to EVO.Yeah but it's hard to believe that hundreds of internationals are flying out just for Evo.
I mean SF4 is a way bigger game, and you don't get even than many internationals flying out for it even when they have way more entrants.
If you think about it though, SF4 has like 7 or 8 times its usual major numbers as well. Also much higher than 3x.Yeah, but there's a limit to how much the numbers should realistically jump when internationals come in.

It's not just the internationals that play at EVO. The fact that all the best players finally fly in and meet there means that hype levels are raised and more people come out/sign up who wouldn't normally bother.Yeah but it's hard to believe that hundreds of internationals are flying out just for Evo.

Yes, but if a game only has one decent tournament every year and REALLY bad online (maybe the worst I've seen) then how would it even keep it's numbers up for that one tournament? It's not just the internationals that play at EVO. The fact that all the best players finally fly in and meet there means that hype levels are raised and more people come out/sign up who wouldn't normally bother.

So rare, that it just happened last year.sorry but i am not convinced that pot bonuses impact turnout much, if at all. from experience, i can say with confidence that 95+% of the players attending evo have zero expectations of making any money. a number of experienced TOs agree with me on this, fwiw.
the most interesting way i have heard it could help is if it gets people talking about a game, and that game's community capitalizes on that. blazblue is going through this as we speak - it was never seen as relevant in the "mainstream" part of the scene until that pot bonus was announced. that made people go "wait, people really care about this game?", and now it's on dustloop to convert that into new long-term interest.
that's a bit of a unique case though, and it's not guaranteed to work out anyway. skullgirls was a more extreme example of this same phenomenon with its evo pot bonus, and that didn't do shit for that game in the long run...
EDIT: i guarantee that there is no way in hell injustice will get into evo next year. it's VERY rare for evo to give a community 2 games, besides capcom of course. and actually, i think anime scene is a much better bet for that treatment next year; i believe both GG Xrd & P4A2 will be out by then, and those are both infinitely more attractive than a 3rd year of trident rush.
Holy shit I didn't even see Karried's post.Thats not what they teach us in north america
Compared to the rest of the games, when it's suppose to be the biggest tournament of the year,How is over 300 people with no pot bonus "don't wanna travel"? That doesn't even make sense.
I keep seeing people posting that sentence, but it doesn't make sense to me. MLG had 60 something entrants and it comprised of the usual suspects. I would imagine the majority of those people will be attending EVO as well. As cool as CEO looks it's a odd decision to pick attending it over EVO. Just my opinion. It makes a difference when only one tournament gets decent numbers for a game, gives incentive for that community to save up and all go to EVO.
Like others have said Injustice just had CEO and MLG which certainly brought down its numbers. KOF hasn't really had anything going for it at all.
