General/Other - Ravenous Why I feel Ravenous is Mileena's best variation.

Which variation do you feel is best with Mileena (excluding recent tournament results)?

@YOMI RM SaltFace I also agree I've been with Mileena since I couldn't look at Kitana in the beginning and Mileena might be more of a mind-game character than Erron Black but if I could complain about one thing? Her down 1 @_@

id say Ravenous is definitely her best variations due to mixups, rushdowns, Range with Pounce, her AA got better with leg flip/grab, id say all in all its a better more rounded version of the 3, not to say i don't enjoy all of them!

Lol yea man that D1 is just...why???

I've got new mixup ideas that involve D3 & both the pounces that will greatly improve your Mileena gameplay in Ravenous.

How can you say it's a more rounded variation when it doesn't address her biggest fault? Which is her not having a quick, far reaching button in neutral. Piercing directly fixes this with a 10 frame, safe, hit confirm/OSable, far reaching, true mid. Mileena already has solid AA options between her 8 frame d2, 8 frame, low profile roll, u3 and j4xxtelekick as an air to air.

It doesn't make her more rounded, it makes her more geared to rushdown. If anything piercing is her most rounded variation due to it giving her 14 frame low sai to counter zoning (instead of relying on telekick reads), 10 frame counterpoke, low sai/exroll/natural string mixups, and comparable damage output. Ravenous Mileena up close is scarier however outside of that range she doesn't have much to offer. Piercing lets her control that range better and she still has a legitimate game when she does get in.

Ravenous is on par with piercing to me Etheral is literally a waste of time. Ass. Piercing...the range you have in it is nice. I personally like mileena as an " in your face " approach as well, and Ravenous creates more of a Vortex than any other variation. Her slow overhead startup is a problem in general, but when landed can set you up for big damage in both variations. Mileenas combo options are a little more limited in Ravenous though as far as switching it up, while piercing has a few to make you bleed out.

I haven't read through the entire thread so this might have been mentioned already but it's worth noting that Piercing definitely used to be the best variation, but Ravenous got buffed and Piercing now has hitbox issues with f1 that make it nearly useless.

I also think this thread confirms that safe 50/50s are a huge part of the MKX meta still. People acting like 50/50s were a phase are badly mistaken.

Keep in mind Low Pounce is a sort-of-Overhead as well, and a solid strength of the Variation.

by the way just to add to my earlier post in thread about how i think the pounces aren't as good as being made out.

IF low pounce either worked as a proper command grab OR proper overhead i would prob be maining ravenous.
until a change like that happens ravenous does not sway my want to take away anytime from practing piercing & ethereal

On that topic, I've never been able to figure out one dialogue between her Kitana.

Kitana: "You are unfit to live."
Mileena: "Shao Khan disagreed."

I can never make out Kitana's reply. Anyone know. Sounds something like "His Realm" to start...

She's making fun of Mileena because Kotal Kahn usurped the throne, and apparently Mileena was called the Mad Empress. I'm guessing the Realm didn't appreciate Mileena that much lol.

That's the odd thing though: We never really got to see what the people of Outworld actually thought of Mileena as Empress, unless it's revealed in the comics beyond issue 4, which I have yet to read (waiting for the second volume this October).

Yeah, I'd take what we know with a grain of salt. I'm sure Kotal or one of his lackeys was the one to coin the term "Mad Empress". They say her rule was worse than Shao Kahn's, which I doubt. In the comics, Mileena seems very intelligent, so hopefully we'll be able to see what the people thought of her.

She seems the same in-game too. I'm at work so can't go into long detail now, but from what we know of both Mileena and Kotal, she actually seemed the better ruler for Outworld and seemed to have Outworld's better interests at heart. Quick examples:

- Mistrust of EarthRealm from the start, both for alliance and to invade
- Mistrust of D'Vorah (was having her apartment watched it seemed) while Kotal trusted her implicitly
- The Edenians, who hate Shao Khan for enslaving them, free Mileena and side with her, Shao's heir, over Kotal

From what I've seen in the games and from in-game, it seems her own inexperience and naievity were her undoing overall.

I do like Kotal as a character, he's a very, very interesting take on an Outworld emperor. He's just a bad decision maker overall.

What do you mean by proper overhead? Does it not connect vs crouch in some situations?
