What's new

Why do we let EVO treat us like this?

If ESL had more offline qualifiers I would be all for that being the "NRS Evo" with a slightly larger bracket as well. Like a 2 day event. 64 qualified top players from offline and online events. That would be exciting.

However I enjoy the large 700+ tournaments where anyone can enter cause that's where the new bloods show up and make upsets.

If the nrs scene wants to make our evo happen then it'll actually have to come together be vocal, organize, and go to events. More KITs, Combo Breakers, and Common Wealths.

We are returned! Death to the False Emperor!
Aris hypes Aris, the games come second. I wanted to strangle him and his fucking streaming catchphrases. The sucked the HYPE more than seeing Acidic Alien in the last match.

I can't wait for PewDiePie commentating in the Street Fighter V Grand Fin... oh, it's only MK that gets the shaft.

Asian Dana White was the highlight of the stream for me.
Thank you so much! I fucking hate Aris with a burning passion and he's an appalling commentator. At least UD is a nice guy, semi knowledgeable about the game and is pleasant to listen to, Aris is just a prat

On topic though, I think Sonic might object to switching from Evo considering he's got the touch for it

And MKX is not even that old. When do we blame this weak ass community for lack of hype going into Evo? This game is only a little over a year old and entry numbers fell off the cliff. All those tournaments where you guys were getting owned by the same characters. SonicFox winning all the big ones. There is nothing exciting out of this community, there is not much weoght behind the community(not talks body weight, we have plenty of that)and it reflects at tournaments.

If the community was stronger, MKX would not have been given the shaft.

I don't think it's that complicated. A majority of the community communicates via TYM, Twitter, FB groups etc. NRS puts a lot of stock into CB and ESL. We as a community all seem to enjoy CB, CEO and KIT. Jebailey and Vandy have been good to our scene.

So we as a community simply decide to support the above 3 as our majors of choice when it counts. Evo will more or less be an after thought unless you're going for the trip or to play a different title.

As I told KP, I genuinely had more fun at CEO this year (my first) and Aquaman's Common Wealth tournament than I did at Evo in previous years. Hence going forward I will make it a point to attend CEO as opposed to Evo. Combo Breaker is simple since it's within 3 hours of where I live. I would rather go to those tournaments, pay a significantly smaller amount of money, and have a better time and a better environment for the game that I play.

I agree with you @A F0xy Grampa.

I didn't see any chairs for big dudes or and woman to sit on and enjoy themselves watching any of the matches.

The stream ran really late. Honestly I know it must've affected some players matches being worn out by what you described.

Sorry to hear the experience was so rough but your right. Things would have to change. I could see that from just sitting here from home. I don't think it's right to have so many people sit on a floor watching matches. Then have a empty ass arena so early in the morning for what I believe will be the hypest matches of the day.

Kp, M & K with chef commentating was spectacular! Even my girlfriend who knows nothing at all was glued to the TV watching and listening to this because of the awesome commtary. Then finals today and even she wasn't too impressed. No offense to Ultra David or Aris but if someone doesnt care for gaming sat down last night to a NFL commentators booth to today's commtating and lost interest very quickly then you sir have a very good valid point.

I hope everyone will agree. Last night I saw players who looked upset and frustrated. Usually when I see majors on a stream yall talking and laughing.

Yeah I agree with you 100%.

As someone who just watched the stream I thought the matches weren't that bad and KP commentated nicely in pools.

Seeing Foxy's experience here however, I'll change my opinion and agree that MKX was treated as a second rate fighting game here. The seating issue alone is what made me change ny mind, NO SEATING FOR 707 PEOPLE?! That is absolutely unacceptable and I applaud the people that showed up for not having their legs fall off aftrr 15 hours of standing.

And now that I think about it it was really really disappointing that we saw K&M commentating only in pools and only for like 1.5 hours. They're the best commentators we have in terms of bringing the hype and seeing as they literally did not compete because they wanted to commentate and proceed, followed by them barely commentating... Ugh.

We're also one of the newest communities, and we grow every year, so you've got a moot point.
707 people spent minimum $60 for entry, and we shouldnt be considered?

So if infiltration wins EVO, should we be show the SFV scene less love because he's only lost 1 major he's entered?

I think we could learn from the smash community tbh, they support themselves so well for a community that others shun.
Always a classy post from you, even when I threw in a bit of trolling. Which is why I love seeing threads by you.

But I just see this community being a victim of itself. If MKX was older than one year, the fall off in entries would have made sense. But this game is young and made a fool of itself in comparison to last year when the game was fresh. It is not hard to understand why a tournament as big as EVO "put your office in the basement". If the MKX community came out strong for Evo, they would have treated MKX better. Hard to take a game with such a decline in one year very serious. Then take into account MKX will not be back next year.

Can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease stop pretending that Ultra David is a very good commentator when it comes to NRS games?

(If you turn this into "he supports and enjoys NRS games, and was a tech monster early on" kindly gtfo because that has nothing to do with anything).

Speaking of commentary half the fun of me watching EVO (though I was originally going this year but had a financial hit) is hearing and subsequently feeling the hype when crazy moments happen. They keep muting the crowd or something so it makes it feel like the crowd is dead when it may actually not be. Kinda sucks away the excitement of watching the stream

from someone that made mk the main game of their tournament with all of the stream time on main stage it was pretty rough to look at

AND CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THEY USED HYPE ASS ESPORTS CHAIRS THROUGH OUT POOLS AND ON THE BIGGEST STAGE IN THE WORLD PLAYERS GOT 5$ CHAIRS!?
I remember Finals for MK being hype. DJT vs Fox with the Caltrop kill.

Unless you are a consistent Top 8 placer and/or a SFV player why would you bother going to Evo where it's 2/3 and 8am finals?
I can't argue this type of reasoning at all, but it came to that because of the early and absolutely embarrassing entry number. It is low when the big guy steps on the little guy, which EVO is guilty of. But they had reason to do so considering all the obstacles, how low entry numbers were, and the state of the balance in MKX both in competition and in game roster.

MKX in its 2nd year of Evo had more entrants in proportion to mk9 and injustice of their 2nd year, so you're wrong, it's actually stronger, not weaker.

This is what I was saying about taking a page out of the smash communities book, do it yourself.

It doesn't matter if sonic wins all the events (which he hasn't, not ALL of them). You can't say that he has that much influence on an entire community because he doesn't, one furry shouldn't be enough to waver any bodies passion for competition/love of MK.

I'm not trying to be bias and I watch all the FG streams on the main day, but is it me or this Guilty Gear stream is boring. I literally want to go take a shower until Melee starts.

The commentators are putting me to sleep, I don't hear the crowd, audio is low and nothing interesting seems to be happening from my perspective.

MKX should have had this slot even with less entrants, people seemed more into it.
